Chapter 71 71: 71

[A/ N : 2 chapters for 170 power stones. C'mon guys we can do it.]

The first meeting between Rei and Thor could be described as the most awkward interaction ever. In fact, if their conversation went to the World Olympics of awkward and hostile first meetings, it would top the list, better than those of someone's partner meeting their ex.

But in two days, Rei seemed to gel with the others quite well. Erik had asked if he had some kind of butler, and Rei had admitted to sending the butler back as he was here for vacations and camping, not as some rich kid.

He even joked that he couldn't do that in front of Thor as he would again speak of how knowledge shouldn't be kept hidden by people like him. Erik and Jane laughed, wondering how this kid could get adult humor so perfectly.

Darcy and Rei were even able to talk like real friends and he could match her humor. Was that the difference between a rich man and a poor man? The difference of ethics being pumped into them from a very young age.

None of them had been brought up rich, so they didn't know. But they were glad that they didn't have to handle another man-child. One was enough.

At night, Erik made a campfire with wood and everyone spoke of their life. They were interested in Rei so he had to make some stories up while also adding some truths about how his father suddenly became rich because he made the right investments.

Rei claimed that he didn't know how money worked but he was learning. Thor too, by now, had gotten used to Rei. Though there was a nagging feeling that something was wrong with him, he didn't let those thoughts cloud his happy times with the people here.

It was late at night when everybody had slept under the camps, while Thor and Jane remained outside and talked among themselves. Erik could see how Jane looked at Thor and couldn't help but sigh. She was probably falling in love with this guy.

Late at night, Thor was explaining to Jane about the Rainbow Bridge and the Yggdrasil. Rei, meanwhile, had tried to sleep, couldn't anymore, and got out. Being in two worlds with different time differences would make him jet-lagged sometimes.

This was one of those days. Jane, seeing him get out of the tent, got away from Thor a bit as she didn't want to give the young guy a false impression.

"Rei.. What are you doing so late at night?" Jane asked.

"I couldn't sleep." Rei replied as a matter of fact.

"Then join us as this man here is discussing the stars." Jane said. She still hadn't made it clear to Rei who Thor was as she didn't know how to, and Rei too never inquired about anyone's designation.

Jane in these two days realized one thing very clearly. This kid was anything but normal. He really did have knowledge of astrophysics, physics, science and even business. What were his parents feeding him? Multiple private tutors?

Thor meanwhile felt a bit of discomfort seeing Jane push him away a bit. He felt disgruntled. He was having such a good time and this kid just had to come and blow his chances off with this amazing lady.

"Hey kid, shouldn't you go to sleep? I heard children here go to sleep early." Thor asked.

"And I heard it's bad for adults to stay awake even after 12 am. So we are on the same boat, buddy." Rei countered.

"Can you not start a small verbal spat again, at this hour? You have had a go at each other like kids." Jane said.

"I am a kid." Rei replied.

"Yes, a kid who is sent alone to strangers. Who will think of you as a kid? I sometimes feel you are a devil in disguise." Jane said. This made Rei smirk a bit. Jane, seeing that smirk, could only say, "I ain't complimenting you here."

"Well that feels like you are saying I am an adult." Rei said. "My mother would be delighted as she shares the same viewpoints as yours." Obviously, sprinkling in some lies here and there.

"Since you are so grown up and can even stay away from your parents, why don't we settle our dispute man to man?" Thor asked.

"Oh! How would you suggest that?" Rei asked.

"An arm-wrestling match." Thor suggested. Jane almost choked.

"What?"

Thor looked completely serious. Darcy, who had been half asleep inside her tent, suddenly poked her head out.

"Did I just hear arm wrestling?"

"Yes." Thor nodded.

"Awesome."

"It is not awesome!" Jane protested immediately. "Thor, you are a grown man. Rei is a teenager. Why are you challenging him to an arm-wrestling contest in the middle of the night?"

"Because he keeps acting like he knows everything."

"And because he keeps acting like he is older than everyone else." Rei replied. Thor pointed.

"See?"

Jane looked between the two and realized she was outnumbered. Erik, who had also been awakened by the discussion, simply rubbed his forehead.

"This is why I drink."

"Come on." Darcy immediately encouraged. "This sounds fun."

"It absolutely does not." Jane replied.

Unfortunately nobody listened.

A makeshift table was dragged near the campfire. The flames crackled gently beneath the night sky while stars filled the heavens above. The desert wind remained cool and comfortable.

Thor sat on one side while Rei sat on the other. The size difference alone was ridiculous. Thor looked like a warrior while Rei looked like a teenager who should have been sleeping. Jane still couldn't believe this was happening.

"Just don't break anything."

"No promises." Thor replied.

Their hands locked. For the first time since meeting, Thor properly examined Rei.

The boy wasn't nervous, not even slightly. He should have been intimidated by the size alone but there was none. That alone bothered him because every instinct inside him kept whispering the same thing. Something was strange about this kid.

"Ready?" Darcy asked.

Both nodded.

"Go."

Immediately Thor pushed and instantly the cheap plastic table that was made just for keeping food plates on it groaned. Rei's arm moved too. And his movement was what disturbed all of the viewers under the clear skies.

Thor was a man who had even survived an assault by multiple agents from SHIELD and was perfectly fine after being hit by their quite heavy RV. So how was this kid able to go toe-to-toe with this beast of a man?

Rei meanwhile remained completely calm. Inside his body, chakra flowed quietly through his pathways. His feet pressed against the ground beneath the table and used chakra to do the same thing for which Tsunade was known. She was great at controlling chakra and having immense power. That kind of control was immense and took a lot of time to master.

And though Rei would practice this occasionally, it didn't mean he was efficient at it. But here it was enough. Thor's eyes narrowed.

He felt it too. The resistance and the movement were growing slowly, while the rest looked at the whole situation in awe.

"What?" Thor muttered.

Rei smiled.

"Having trouble?"

Thor pushed harder under the silence of the night and the occasional crackling of the campfire, producing flickering shadows around them. But Rei too wasn't having a good time and he was sweating, because that much precise control using his elbow as the anchor and chakra to give him strength was ridiculous.

Thor was genuinely strong. Even while being depowered, the pressure continued increasing. The table now was bent slightly and threatened to break if it continued.

CRACK.

Everyone jumped. And that was the moment Rei decided to finish it. The force traveled through his shoulder, his arm and finally his wrist. For a brief second Thor felt something impossible.

BOOOOM.

Thor's hand slammed into the table. Everyone's eyes and mouths were way too wide to even register what they had just witnessed. A young kid defeating a muscular man at 12 am. Yeah, everyone was drunk now for sure.

"...How?"

Thor stared at his own hand. He himself was in disbelief after losing to a kid. Rei just walked away to his own tent leaving one speechless intern, two confused astrophysicists and one Prince of Asgard who was now sure that this boy wasn't normal.

The three people left Thor to be with his own thoughts and thus they too followed Rei and went to their respective tents. The whole incident was too much for them to handle and understand and it was something they couldn't even ask Rei.

He was a teenager, and wasn't even a late one, and also held immense wealth behind him, and thus they couldn't even force this boy to explain how he did this. If they hadn't known Thor, they would have thought that Thor had pulled a prank with Rei, but they were sure that he didn't.

So that left the fact that this kid wasn't normal. If his arrival was a bit confusing before, now it was definitely suspicious.
