"It's not a nice thing to bite at the neck, you damned snake." Rei shouted from above.

Orochimaru's amusement had completely vanished now.

The moment he realized Sasuke was gone, truly gone, the atmosphere itself changed. The playful curiosity disappeared and what remained behind was something far more dangerous. And that was genuine anger.

For years he had searched for the perfect vessel. Years of planning. Years of patience. Years of waiting. Years of experiments. Years.. Well you get the point.

And now some random genin had stolen it from him.

"...Interesting..." Orochimaru spoke softly, though there was no amusement left in his voice. "You know who I am and you somehow possess a space-time technique and yet I have never heard your name before."

Rei simply shrugged his shoulders while maintaining distance.

"Maybe because I don't like old men stalking children."

The words made Orochimaru's eye twitch slightly.

Then the forest exploded.

Hundreds of snakes burst from the trees simultaneously and surged toward Rei from every direction. The attack was so sudden and overwhelming that most genins would have died instantly, if they were even touched by these snakes.

Doton: Doryūheki [Earth Release: Earth Style Wall]

A massive wall erupted upward and blocked the first wave.

Suiton: Teppōdama [Water Release: Gunshot]

Compressed bullets of water tore through dozens of snakes and shredded them apart before they could reach him.

But Orochimaru was already behind him and it was way too fast. A kick smashed directly into Rei's guard and launched him through three trees. The trunks shattered from the impact and Rei barely managed to regain his footing before another attack arrived.

"...Now tell me where they are."

"Hard pass."

Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu [Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique]

Rei immediately disappeared underground.

The forest floor erupted moments later as gigantic snakes chased after him beneath the earth. Trees collapsed and soil exploded everywhere. The entire battlefield began resembling a natural disaster.

For several minutes the chase continued. The newly awakened Mind's Eye of Kagura continuously warned him whenever Orochimaru attacked. He was a bit annoyed with the situation too.

He couldn't use all of his abilities. His mist technique, his ice techniques and even couldn't use Sharingan, though he wore contact lenses now, thanks to Tony. He couldn't take the risk of Orochimaru babbling to Danzo later and even come after him like a parasite.

There were few abilities in the world that genuinely gave him fear. One was kotomatsukami. Changing the sheer will and mindset of a person was a broken ability and in no way he was taking chances on that. Thus he was taking his steps very carefully inside Konoha.

But that didn't mean he wouldn't remember this. One humiliation wasn't enough for him, Rei wanted to give him several in the future.

Eventually Rei landed on top of a shattered tree and exhaled heavily.

"...Yeah. Definitely not winning this."

Orochimaru slowly emerged from the destruction below. His killing intent flooded the entire area.

"You are quite troublesome."

"And you're quite creepy."

Every bit of frustration and fury Orochimaru possessed was unleashed upon the Forest of Death. And somewhere far away, Anko suddenly froze.

"...What the hell is happening over there?"

Because whatever was causing that destruction... It definitely wasn't genins. Rei meanwhile had enough of his bullshit and shouted.

"Alright.. This is where I leave. Have a good day." Rei saying that vanished and Orochimaru who had been fighting to get this guy under his control was dumbstruck. Did this guy just bail out after saying that and no dramatic effect later?

Orochimaru just stood there. For a few seconds he genuinely didn't move. The boy had just announced his departure and then vanished. Leaving no signs and probably using the same space-time ninjutsu as he had done before.

The snakes around him slowly lowered their heads while Orochimaru's expression twisted further and further. He wasn't merely angry anymore. He was humiliated.

A vessel he had spent few years preparing for had vanished. A random genin knew his identity. That same genin somehow possessed a space-time technique. And after delaying him for so long, the brat had simply left. He couldn't even see the mark of the space-time jutsu. There was no way a random genin did that jutsu without leaving a mark but he couldn't find any of it. What the fuck was happening?

"...REIIIIII!"

The scream echoed throughout the entire Forest of Death. The next moment the forest exploded.

Trees shattered apart. The ground cracked under the sheer amount of chakra flooding outward. Birds fled into the sky in panic while animals ran in every direction possible.

Several teams taking the exam froze in terror. Even experienced proctors became alarmed. Nobody knew what was happening, except one person.

Anko Mitarashi.

And for the first time since arriving at the exams, genuine fear crossed her face. Meanwhile, very very far away from all of that destruction, Rei opened his eyes and found himself back inside the ranch living room in New York.

The first thing he saw was Naruto. followed by others. And all three immediately stood up.

"REI!" Naruto shouted.

The amount of relief in his voice surprised even himself. Sakura looked like she wanted to punch him and hug him at the same time while Sasuke simply stared silently before finally relaxing slightly.

Only now did all of them realize how worried they had been. Because if even Rei couldn't win... Then what exactly had they encountered?

On the far side of the room Karin sat awkwardly on the couch while Daniel slowly explained things using a map, several books and what looked like the patience of a saint.

"...And this is New York."

"...What is New York?"

Daniel's eye twitched.

"...A city."

"...What is a city?"

Daniel looked ready to cry. Naruto glanced toward her.

"Oh. New contract?" Naruto asked him.

"Yep."

"Cool."

And just like that Team 7 completely accepted her existence, at least for the time being. Right now, she wasn't the priority. Meanwhile Naruto immediately turned back toward Rei. His whiskers had grown more visible now, nails showing signs of turning into claws and eyes having a form of red chakra. This guy was really on the verge of losing it.

"What the hell was that guy?!"

The question instantly made everyone quiet. Rei sighed and dropped himself onto a chair.

"...A very dangerous person."

"Did you win?" Sakura asked.

"Do I loom like someone who won?"

The answer stunned them. Not because Rei lost, but because he admitted it so casually.

"It was a tough fight." Rei continued. "And if I stayed longer it would've become much worse."

That answer alone was enough to make Naruto and Sasuke clench their fists. Because they understood what it meant. The whiskers grew more visible, and Sasuke showing two tomoe sharingan. Rei hadn't protected them because he thought they were weak.

He protected them because they genuinely might've died, or at least they thought that. After a few minutes Rei stood up again. They needed to get stronger.

"I need to do something."

And before anyone could ask another question he vanished. This time he appeared directly inside his home. Hana was sitting comfortably and reading when suddenly Rei appeared in front of her.

"...You know, one day you should start using doors and leave exams in the middle."

"No time."

The seriousness in his voice immediately made Hana sit upright.

"What happened?"

"Orochimaru is inside the village."

The book slipped from her hands. For a second Hana genuinely thought she had heard wrong. Then she saw Rei's expression.

"...You're serious."

"I'm serious."

The color drained from her face. Orochimaru wasn't some missing-nin. He was Orochimaru. One of the Legendary Sannin. A man who could threaten entire villages.

"Tell Kakashi-sensei immediately. He is disguised and I don't know what he's planning, but he was inside the Forest of Death."

Hana didn't even waste a second. The moment Rei finished speaking she disappeared. Rei returned to MCU and sat down. Fighting that beast had really made him exhausted. Not in the sense of chakra, but in the sense that his body wasn't adjusted yet to the chakra of Karin.

Thus right now he needed to meditate. Sasuke and Naruto were about to go out and practice but was stopped by Rei.

"Don't waste time fighting. We still have another phase left in the exam after reaching the Tower."

"What? Didn't we complete the phase?" Naruto asked.

"No. I am sure we will have to fight other teams in the arena after we reach the tower and the scrolls are supposed to be the ticket." Rei replied.

"So we need fight others? Do we need to fight that guy?" Sasuke asked. For some reason he wanted to fight that person.

"I don't think so. He is a criminal and I have already informed Kakashi-sensei. I don't think he is that daring to show himself openly in front of so many ninjas." Naruto and others soon got to know who the criminal and understood why Rei had told them to run.

They weren't in the same league at all. But this only made the three of them more determined to get strong.
