Pokémon: Starting From Zero as a Legendary Pokémon

Chapter 121: Magearna’s Modifications

You unfilial brat, you really are filial indeed!!

Yet at this point, even if Gurkinn had to grit his teeth, he would still continue the battle against Sora.

"Young people should show respect to their elders."

"So for the first Pokémon, let my side send one out first."

Sora decided to give Gurkinn a little courtesy so the old man wouldn't lose too badly.

"The stage has already been prepared for you. Go—Magearna!"

"Didi du~~"

Magearna's figure emerged from the light.

The puppet princess spun happily in place, instantly drawing cheers from Korrina, Kimia, and the others.

"Dido~"

Magearna waved toward the people on the screen, delighted they were cheering for her.

"It's here!"

"It's Magearna!"

"Sora is leading with Magearna?"

"Go, Magearna!"

On the screen, the three people from Azoth watched excitedly as Magearna appeared, full of anticipation for her performance.

"Teach that bald old fossil a lesson!"

Who said that last line?

Come out here.

The heavens absolutely won't beat you to death.

Gurkinn glanced toward Korrina.

The little girl immediately began whistling guiltily.

I…

Gurkinn had no time to argue with his unfilial granddaughter and instead looked at Sora speechlessly.

"You brat, that's not very honorable!"

What happened to "giving the elder some courtesy"?

You open with Magearna?!

Too much, okay?!

"Magearna…"

Gurkinn knew of Magearna's existence, but beyond that, he knew nothing about her typing, abilities, or traits.

Based on his experience, Magearna's level was definitely not low.

Among all his Pokémon, the only one capable of directly confronting Magearna was his Lucario, which had reached Elite Four-tier strength.

I'll probe first.

Having made up his mind, Gurkinn threw a Poké Ball.

"Be careful. Your opponent is no ordinary foe."

"Alakazam!"

The Pokémon appearing before everyone was not one of Gurkinn's usual Fighting-types.

Instead, it was a humanoid fox-like Pokémon holding a spoon in each hand.

Abra, Kadabra, and finally Alakazam.

A very famous Psychic-type Pokémon from Kanto.

"It's actually Alakazam!"

"But why?"

Kimia and the others couldn't understand Gurkinn's strategy.

Even Korrina looked completely confused.

Trying to play a war of attrition?

Sora instantly perceived the old man's intentions.

Gurkinn had no plans to sweep the entire match.

If he could take down one Pokémon, that was already enough.

The old man's thoughts were simple:

Use multiple Pokémon to wear down Magearna.

Alakazam was merely the first probe.

Then a second.

Then a third…

Even if he didn't know exactly where Magearna ranked within Sora's team strength-wise, Gurkinn's goal remained the same—

force her off the field first.

"I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, Elder."

Sora smiled.

"I have no intention of switching Magearna out."

"In the battles to come, you'll either defeat her…"

His voice lowered slightly.

"Or be completely swept by her."

This decision had already been made before Sora arrived.

Only, things had developed differently than expected.

He never imagined Gurkinn would escalate things into a full 6v6.

Even so, Sora never changed his plan.

You want a 6v6?

That's your business.

His own thoughts had never changed.

He would send out Magearna—

and sweep all six of Gurkinn's Pokémon.

6v6?

No.

This was 1v6.

1v7.

No matter how many Pokémon Gurkinn sent out—

This battle…

I have Magearna, and that alone is enough!

"Alakazam, use Psy—"

"Delete it."

Gurkinn's Alakazam reacted quickly.

But Magearna was even faster.

Before Alakazam's Psychic could even take shape, a silver-white beam had already crossed the hundred-meter battlefield and slammed directly into Alakazam's body.

"Alaka—!"

The beam struck Alakazam and blasted its entire body backward, smashing violently into the wall behind Gurkinn.

"What?!"

Gurkinn hadn't even reacted.

What was that move just now?

A silver beam?

That speed…

Gurkinn searched through all his memories and still couldn't identify a similar attack.

Meanwhile, Alakazam slid down from the wall.

Though it hadn't completely lost consciousness, the spoons in its hands had already fallen.

Now it clutched the spot where the beam hit, face twisted in pain.

"Alakazam has been blasted out of bounds! The winner of Round One is Magearna!"

Seeing this, Korrina hurriedly waved the referee flag and declared Alakazam defeated.

Pokémon battles had rules.

If a Pokémon merely left the battlefield on its own, some formats allowed it to return.

But Alakazam was different.

It had been blasted out by Magearna.

Being knocked out and leaving voluntarily were completely different concepts.

In any official rule set, being sent flying out of bounds by an opponent resulted in immediate defeat.

"Return, Alakazam."

Gurkinn briefly checked Alakazam's injuries.

It was badly hurt.

That silver beam possessed terrifying penetrating power.

Externally, Alakazam looked mostly unharmed.

Internally, however, its energy circulation was chaotic.

Clearly, the attack had damaged both bones and internal organs.

"So this is Magearna's power…"

Normally, Gurkinn should not have asked.

But Magearna's performance had been too shocking.

His Alakazam was a level 62 Pokémon.

Yet it failed to endure even a single move before losing.

"Sister, what was that just now?"

On the other side of the screen, Raleigh was completely lost.

"What exactly did Magearna do?"

From his perspective, Gurkinn had sent out Alakazam to attack, but…

Then what?

Raleigh hadn't seen clearly.

All he noticed was a silver flash, followed by Korrina declaring Alakazam out of bounds.

"I don't know."

Kimia looked equally confused.

She knew Sora was strong and had witnessed Ogerpon's battle with Volcanion.

But what was going on with Magearna?

"Wait… I think I understand now."

Raleigh suddenly recalled some design concepts he had once discussed with Sora.

One of them perfectly matched the current situation.

"It's energy compression!"

"Energy compression?"

Fleur-de-Lis and Kimia looked toward Raleigh in confusion.

"It's a modification concept Big Brother Sora proposed for Magearna!"

Raleigh immediately began explaining Magearna's upgrades.

"By creating multiple rings inside her body, she can compress attribute energy and release it instantaneously!"
