Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 401: Charles Prescott Got Married

Countless people had tried to poach him before!

But now when he called, as soon as people heard it was Charles Prescott, they lost all interest.

Everyone knew he had offended Nathan Fawcett and the Linden Family. Who would dare hire him now and risk displeasing the Lindens?

The Linden Group’s bank collaborated with many corporations that relied on it for funding. Offending the Linden Family for a single Charles Prescott wasn’t worth it.

Charles Prescott sat there for over an hour, making more than ten calls. Not a single person was willing to hire him.

’So now... SV is my only option?’

He drove home. He had just moved into this house and was living there alone, though Mia Shaw would occasionally come over.

When he got home, the caretaker looking after Mrs. Prescott in Westhaven called. "Mr. Prescott, the madam’s health hasn’t been good lately, so she can’t look after Leo. Could you see when you have time to come pick him up?"

Charles Prescott rubbed his temples. He remembered that his grandmother was indeed getting on in years and said, "I’ll come back to get him in a few days."

The next morning, Charles Prescott went to work at SV after all.

’It’s not like I have anywhere else to go!’

’I’m still young...’

He had accumulated so many years of experience in the automotive industry and had always been confident in his abilities. Therefore, he was unwilling to let this opportunity slip by.

Mia Shaw walked in and saw him sitting in his office. "I thought you weren’t coming back!" she said.

Seeing Charles Prescott back at work put her in a great mood.

Charles Prescott’s gaze fell upon Mia Shaw. "I’ve already completed the onboarding process," he said. "Why wouldn’t I come back?"

"Come to my place for dinner tonight!" Mia said. "I told my parents about us getting married. Charles, don’t take what happened last night to heart! I only did it because I love you and want to be with you. You can understand that, right?"

Charles looked at the woman and asked, "Don’t you have work to do?"

Mia glanced at the time. "Of course I do! I’ll have someone bring over the materials for the section you’ll be in charge of. You can take a look at them then."

Charles nodded. "Mm. Thanks."

Mia Shaw leaned down and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before leaving the office.

Charles remained seated, took out a handkerchief, and wiped the spot she had kissed. A smudge of lipstick came away on the fabric...

He thought about how, in the past, whenever a woman displeased him, he would simply tell them to get lost.

He never imagined that one day, despite despising this woman so much, he would be forced to be with her.

When evening came, Mia Shaw arrived to pick up Charles Prescott.

The two of them left the company together, and Charles went to Mia’s home to have dinner with her parents.

’I never thought about getting married before. I always felt it was a waste of time, but now, I have no choice!’

After they registered their marriage, Charles had someone bring Leo Prescott over.

They were living together now.

...

That afternoon, the hospital was as crowded as ever. While doing her rounds, Anne Sutton happened to run into Mia Shaw.

Mia saw her and called out, "Dr. Sutton!"

Anne was wearing a mask. ’I can’t believe she recognized me even with this on.’

Anne asked, "What is it?"

Mia said, "I got married!"

"..." Anne looked at her and said, "Congratulations."

’It’s not like I know her well.’

’The last time we interacted was when she came to my home and got a harsh lesson from Nathan Fawcett.’

Mia looked at Anne Sutton, her face full of gloating. "Aren’t you curious who I married?"

"Not really," Anne said. "I’m not sure if you’re just passing by or if you came to see me on purpose."

"I married Charles Prescott."

"..." Anne looked at Mia Shaw. Charles had only left the company a few weeks ago; it had happened just half a month prior.

’When did he marry Mia Shaw?’

Seeing Anne’s silence, Mia continued, "Surprised? I was pretty surprised myself. Did you know? Back when I was with him, you were his fiancée, and I was so jealous of that title. The moment you found out I existed, he sent me away! Can you even imagine what I went through during all those years abroad? And now, he’s finally married me!"

"..." After hearing Mia’s speech, Anne replied, "Well, since you got your wish, I suppose congratulations are in order."

’I can’t believe there’s still a woman willing to marry him!’

’It must be his lucky day!’

After Charles Prescott left Fawcett Group, she had assumed most of the women who flocked to him were only after his money. She never expected he’d actually get married after his fall from grace.

Mia Shaw stared at Anne. Although Anne had congratulated her, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a passive-aggressive undertone to her words.

Mia said, "I heard you want to be with Nathan Fawcett, but the old master of the Linden Family won’t allow it."

Mia knew Lana Langley and had heard about Anne’s situation from her.

Hearing this, Anne’s lips twitched into a sneer. "Miss Shaw, you’re overstepping. You should worry more about yourself and stop spending all day fixated on other people’s lives."

Mia said, "What are you talking about? I’m just concerned for you. Wouldn’t it be such a shame if you couldn’t marry into the Linden Family?"

"..." Anne rolled her eyes at her and walked away, instantly feeling that talking to her was a complete waste of time.

"Anne." Just as Anne got away from Mia, Chloe Chase approached her. She looked at Anne and said, "The Eldest Miss asked me to tell you to come to the Linden estate for dinner today."

Anne said, "I’m not going!"

’The old master doesn’t like me, so what’s the point of going?’

Chloe said, "It’s the Eldest Miss’s birthday today. You should really go. Ian and Nathan are already there. It’s just dinner; you can leave right after. Most importantly, your mother is there too."

Anne looked at Chloe. "My mother is there?"

Chloe nodded. "The Eldest Miss invited her."

Upon hearing this, Anne nodded. "Alright, then."

"Then you can leave with us in a bit, okay?" Chloe looked at her with concern.

Anne agreed. "Okay. Let me send Nathan a message."

’So he doesn’t come all the way over here to pick me up.’

Anne took out her phone and sent a quick message to Nathan Fawcett.

After her shift ended, she rode back to the Linden estate in Chloe Chase’s car with Anna Linden.

It was Anna Linden’s birthday, and all of her subordinates had come. Anne hadn’t realized so many people would be attending.

...

The other members of the Linden Family were there today as well.

Even Noah Linden had made a special trip from Westhaven!

Anna Linden’s birthday celebration was quite lively.

Since Anna had to greet people, Anne went inside first, hoping to find Ian and Nathan Fawcett.

Instead, she saw Lana Langley sitting there while Ryan Linden glared at her. "You seem to be having a great time living here every day!" he snapped. "Are you planning on never coming home?"

Lana had been staying at the Linden estate recently, living a life of being waited on hand and foot. It was such a comfortable and pleasant existence that she had almost forgotten she even had a husband.

Now, seeing Ryan’s furious expression, Lana retorted, "Wasn’t it Nathan Fawcett who told me to stay here? It’s not like I can disobey him! Go talk to him about it!"

Ryan stared at the woman, so angry he felt like hitting her. "Don’t think I can’t do anything to you just because you’re here."
