Chapter 398: He Finally Knows
"..." Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. ’This idiot,’ she thought, ’he finally gets it, huh?’
But she didn’t admit it so readily.
She just denied it, saying, "No, of course not! They’re two different people."
The corner of Charles Prescott’s mouth twitched. "You’re still lying to me? Do you really think I’m an idiot? You knew all along! It all makes sense now! Why Ethan Linden was so good to you... Nathan Fawcett never died in the first place. They were the same person from the very beginning! That’s why he could tolerate you two being together!"
Anne Sutton listened to Charles Prescott’s rambling analysis without interrupting.
She just stood to the side, as if watching a clown who had finally realized he’d been fooled.
After finishing his tirade, Charles Prescott finally looked at Anne Sutton and said, "I’m right, aren’t I? They’re the same person. Nathan Fawcett is Ethan Linden, and Ethan Linden is Nathan Fawcett!"
Anne Sutton said, "Did you come all this way just to tell me this?"
"Anne Sutton, you really played me for a fool!" He hadn’t thought about it before, but now that he was putting it all together, he suddenly felt like a total moron.
Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and said, "If that’s what you want to believe, then let’s just say things are exactly as you think."
"Stop joking around," Charles Prescott said. "I’m being serious with you! Can’t you just give me a straight answer?"
"And what if I do?" Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "Yes, Ethan Linden is Nathan Fawcett, and Nathan Fawcett is Ethan Linden! He’s back at the Linden Group now. So what if I tell you? What can you possibly do about it?"
Charles Prescott’s expression was grim.
His face was stiff as he said, "So, does that mean Nathan Fawcett already knows what happened with the child? Does he know? You two are so close, you must have told him a long time ago."
"..." Anne Sutton smiled. "You’re not so stupid after all! Charles Prescott, you never expected this, did you? You never expected Nathan Fawcett to be alive! And you never thought things would turn out this way! This is your retribution."
Charles Prescott said, "If he knows about the child, he’ll never forgive me!"
As he said this, a look of fear crossed his face.
Perhaps because of a childhood trauma, he was terrified of Nathan Fawcett.
He knew Nathan Fawcett was not someone to be trifled with!
He hadn’t been this scared when he was dealing with Ethan Linden.
After all, he had assumed that Ethan Linden wasn’t that close to Anne Sutton and probably wouldn’t care about what happened in the past.
But now, Nathan Fawcett had become the Family Head of the Linden Group. The man he feared most was sitting in the position he dreaded most...
Seeing his fearful expression, Anne Sutton felt exceptionally pleased. She laughed and said, "Well, what do you know! A day has come when even Mr. Prescott is afraid! Aren’t you always so confident, acting like a master strategist with everything under control? I thought you weren’t afraid of anything!"
Charles Prescott said, "Nathan Fawcett is already planning how to deal with me, isn’t he? He’s definitely not going to let me off the hook!"
"..." Anne Sutton looked at him. "It’s good that you know! You should also know that the only reason you’re still at the Fawcett Group today is because you’re still of some use!"
...
When Butler Shepherd emerged with Master Linden after his check-up, he saw Charles Prescott standing with Anne Sutton.
Seeing the two of them together, Master Linden frowned and asked Butler Shepherd, "Who is that man?"
Butler Shepherd said, "From the looks of it, that should be Charles Prescott. He’s the president of the Fawcett Group, and he manages all of its affairs!"
"So that’s him!" Master Linden’s expression was complicated. "I heard Anne Sutton was engaged to him before?"
"That did happen." Butler Shepherd looked at Master Linden and said, "You still remember that!"
Leaning on his cane, Master Linden walked over. His gaze fell on Charles Prescott, then he glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "Nathan said you’d be seeing other men. It seems you haven’t disappointed him."
Anne Sutton was speechless.
’What is he even talking about?’
Master Linden looked at Charles Prescott and said, "Charles Prescott, what are you doing here?"
Charles Prescott recognized Master Linden at a glance.
It was impossible for him not to know who Master Linden was. After all, he had seen him in the news before.
He said, "Mr. Linden."
Master Linden glanced at Anne Sutton and walked away, leaning on his cane.
Butler Shepherd glanced at Charles Prescott and said, "Mr. Prescott, our master has something to discuss with you. Please come with us."
Hearing this, Charles Prescott froze. He had no idea what Master Linden would want to talk to him about at a time like this.
He glanced at Anne Sutton before following Master Linden and Butler Shepherd.
Anne Sutton was also caught by surprise. ’Why would Master Linden suddenly want to see Charles Prescott?’
In the car, Charles Prescott looked at Master Linden, unsure of where he was being taken. "Mr. Linden, did you need me for something?" he asked.
Master Linden said to Charles Prescott, "I heard your father is Arthur Fawcett’s adopted son."
"Yes," Charles Prescott said. "Chairman Fawcett is my grandfather."
Master Linden narrowed his eyes at Charles Prescott. "While Nathan was with the Linden Family, you and your father took over the Fawcett Family?"
Charles Prescott said, "Nathan didn’t have any children back then. I was the designated heir of the Fawcett Family from the start."
"So..." Master Linden said, "you forced Anne Sutton to abort the child she was carrying!"
Charles Prescott’s face darkened. He looked at Master Linden and denied it, "Of course not!"
Master Linden looked at Charles Prescott and said, "You’re lying!"
His gaze was piercing.
Charles Prescott felt like he was suffocating under his stare.
’The recent news has just been one bombshell after another!’
First, he discovered that Nathan Fawcett was Ethan Linden, and now he was being summoned for a private talk by Master Linden.
Charles Prescott said, "I have other matters to attend to. I’m not sure why Mr. Linden summoned me. If there’s nothing else, I should be going!"
"What were you looking for Anne Sutton for today?"
"She’s the chairwoman of the Fawcett Group now, and I work for the Fawcett Group. I came to ask her about work."
Master Linden stared at Charles Prescott. "Is that so? But from your reaction, it didn’t look like you were there to discuss work."
"..." Charles Prescott suspected the old man was some kind of mind reader!
He seemed to see through everything.
Charles Prescott said, "I heard that Nathan Fawcett has inherited the Linden Family, so I came to ask about it. As you know, Nathan Fawcett is my uncle! We used to have a very good relationship."
"Your uncle!" Master Linden laughed. "It seems to me you clearly know that Nathan Fawcett and Ethan Linden are the same person. You’ve done too many bad things, so you came to test the waters, didn’t you?"
"..." Charles Prescott looked at the old man with a complicated expression. "You are a man of status. Slandering me like this doesn’t seem very appropriate, does it?"
"Leave the Fawcett Group, and stay out of Nathan’s world! A man with a corrupt heart like you shouldn’t have any contact with him." Although he hadn’t been involved in the Fawcett Family’s affairs, he was generally aware of what had happened.
Therefore, he had no favorable impression of the Prescott father and son.
Charles Prescott listened to Master Linden’s words. "The Fawcett Family’s affairs don’t seem to have anything to do with you."
"You can leave on your own, or I can make you leave. The choice is yours."
After saying this, Master Linden had the driver stop the car and let Charles Prescott out.
Charles Prescott got out of the car. Watching the Linden Family’s vehicle drive away, he clenched his fists tightly...
