Chapter 37: Jun’s Inner Circle
The private lounge at the Azure Pavilion was a sanctuary of opulence, far removed from the noise of the downtown district. Large, floor-to-ceiling glass doors stood open, leading to a wide balcony that offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the Academy’s central gardens. The air was light, carrying the scent of blooming jasmine and the distant, rhythmic sound of the ocean.
Jun sat relaxed in a deep, leather armchair, his posture calm and composed. Beside him, Sora was in a state of absolute devotion. She moved with a grace that was almost feline, her eyes shining with a mixture of love and pride. She carefully poured a stream of vibrant, emerald-green tea into a delicate porcelain cup, the steam rising in swirling patterns.
“This is a very rare blend, Jun,” Sora said, her voice soft and melodic. “It’s high-quality green tea from a private estate in Kyoto. I thought it would be the perfect accompaniment to these sweets.” She placed a small, meticulously crafted wagashi treat on a plate beside his cup, her touch lingering for a split second on his hand.
Across from them, Akane sat quietly. She was the silent shadow, her presence a stabilizing force in the room. She watched Jun with a quiet, steady affection, her eyes reflecting a loyalty that didn’t need words. Beside her were two empty chairs, waiting for the arrivals.
The silence was broken by a soft knock. A maid entered, bowing deeply. “Sir, Miss Lee and Miss Lin have arrived downstairs. They are being escorted up now.”
Jun nodded, his expression neutral. He knew exactly what was about to happen.
A few moments later, the doors opened, and Hana and Mei stepped into the room.
The contrast between the two women was striking. Hana looked like a vision of springtime, wearing a floral white one-piece dress from the boutique. The light fabric clung to her toned curves, and her bright, energetic aura seemed to fill the room. She looked every bit the “Nation’s Sweetheart,” though her eyes were scanning the room with a predatory precision.
Mei Lin, on the other hand, had completely ignored the “feminine” suggestions of the boutique. She was dressed in high-end casual streetwear—a pair of perfectly tailored designer jeans that emphasized her long, model-like legs and a simple, expensive top. Her poise was absolute, her gaze cold and calculating. She didn’t look like she was trying to impress; she looked like she already owned the room.
“Welcome,” Jun said, his voice low and steady. “Please, sit.”
Hana and Mei took their seats, the atmosphere in the room shifting instantly. The air became thick with a sudden, electric tension. Maids moved in silently, serving tea to the newcomers.
Jun leaned back, his gaze shifting between the four women. “I believe we all know why you’re here. I’ve given you time to consider my invitation. So, I’ll ask you now: do you accept the invitation to be part of my circle?”
Hana didn’t even hesitate. She leaned forward, her eyes locking onto Jun with a fierce, possessive intensity.
“Of course, Jun-oppa!” Hana chirped, her voice dripping with a sweetness that felt almost aggressive. She leaned forward, her chest pressing slightly against the edge of the table, her eyes locking onto Jun with a possessive intensity. She then flicked her gaze toward Sora, who was still sitting close to Jun, her expression one of serene devotion. A small, mocking smile played on Hana’s lips.
“I just feel like I need to be here… you know, to make sure Jun-oppa’s surroundings are properly cleaned up,” Hana continued, her voice taking on a sing-song quality. “It would be a shame if things got too… cluttered. After all, some people are just so clumsy with how they handle things, they leave a mess everywhere they go.”
Sora’s expression didn’t change, but her eyes narrowed, her pupils contracting. She felt the “spark” of hostility immediately—a sharp, electric charge that crackled in the air between them. Hana wasn’t just answering a question; she was deliberately attacking Sora’s competence and her place in Jun’s life.
“A house always needs a foundation, Hana,” Sora replied, her voice remaining poised and elegant, though there was a cold, sharp edge to her words that could have cut glass. “As Jun’s first woman, it is my responsibility to ensure everything is in order. I’m sure you’ll find that my ‘cleaning’ is more than sufficient. In fact, I prefer a tidy house—it makes it so much easier to see exactly where the dust needs to be swept away.”
Hana let out a small, airy giggle, though her eyes remained cold. “A foundation is important, I suppose. But foundations are usually buried in the dirt, hidden away where no one sees them. I prefer to be the one Jun looks at first when he wakes up. That’s the real position of power, isn’t it?”
Sora’s grip tightened slightly on the porcelain tea cup, her knuckles whitening. “Position is not determined by who is seen first, but by who is trusted most. Jun knows exactly where I stand, and more importantly, he knows exactly what I provide for him—things a ‘childhood friend’ could only dream of understanding.”
Hana’s smile widened, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Oh, I understand plenty, Sora. I understand that you’re just the guide who happened to be assigned to him. I’m the one who has been in his heart since before he even knew what a ‘Prime’ was. You can play the role of the perfect housewife all you want, but at the end of the day, I’m the one who actually knows the man behind the title.”
The tension in the room reached a fever pitch. Jun sat between them, feeling the psychic war raging over his head. He could see the possessiveness in Hana’s gaze and the defensive pride in Sora’s. It was a collision of “Old Money” stability and “New Money” passion, and neither woman was willing to yield an inch of ground.
Jun let out a long, slow sigh. He could practically see the sparks flying between the two women. He knew Hana’s habits all too well; once she felt a territorial threat, her bad habit flared up, and she loved to bully any woman she perceived as a rival.
Mei Lin, however, remained entirely detached from the bickering. She calmly sipped her tea, her eyes closed for a moment. As the aroma hit her, she noticed a familiar scent—the same sweet, intoxicating aroma from the viewing room. It didn’t repulse her; in fact, it made her heart flutter with a strange, visceral craving.
“I accept,” Mei Lin said simply, her voice a cool, low contralto. She didn’t look at Hana or Sora; she only looked at Jun. “I believe our interests are well-aligned.”
Akane nodded, her voice soft. “I accept as well, Jun-sama.”
Jun looked at the four of them—the devoted Sora, the possessive Hana, the calculating Mei, and the loyal Akane. “I’m glad. That means I’m finished with the recruitment.”
Hana blinked, her eyes widening in surprise. “Wait… you’re finished? You aren’t inviting any other girls?”
Jun shook his head. “I’ve seen enough. I’m not interested in a crowd. This is enough for me.”
A wave of pure relief and joy washed over Hana. She beamed, her possessiveness momentarily satisfied. She cast a quick, wary glance at Mei, Sora, and Akane, as if making sure no one else was hiding in the shadows.
“It’s already afternoon,” Sora suggested, her voice returning to its gentle, managerial tone. “Since we are all gathered, perhaps we should go out for a date around the shopping district? It would be a good way to celebrate the new arrangement.”
Hana grumbled, though she stood up, her eyes flashing with a competitive glint. “Fine. But I’m going to find something much better than this dress to wear. I’ll show Jun-oppa exactly what he’s missing.”
Mei Lin simply nodded, her expression neutral, her interest remaining focused solely on the man.
“I will follow Mistress Sora’s arrangement,” Akane added, stepping back to allow the others to lead the way.
As they walked out of the Azure Pavilion and back into the sunlight of the shopping district, the dynamic of the group was clear. The boundaries had been drawn, the roles had been assigned, and the war for Jun’s attention had officially moved from the private suites to the public eye.
