Chapter 79: Leave her alone
The atmosphere inside the presidential office was unusually quiet.
Former President Aaron Johnson sat helplessly on the couch while staring at the television screen in disbelief. Even now, he still couldn’t understand how he lost the election. Everything had gone according to his plans. The people loved him, his approval ratings were high, and he was confident about his victory.
So where exactly did things go wrong?
He had asked himself that same question countless times since the results were announced.
He suddenly sighed heavily and rubbed his temples in frustration. Just yesterday, everyone around him had been congratulating him in advance. He had even prepared a victory speech beforehand.
Now, not only had he lost the election, but he was also about to leave the presidential office.
Life was indeed unpredictable.
Before he could continue thinking about it, the office door was suddenly pushed open.
Aaron frowned immediately. His expression darkened when he saw his vice president walking into the office.
"Laurence?" he called coldly.
However, he quickly noticed another familiar face standing beside him.
Philip Jones.
The newly elected president. Aaron’s face immediately darkened.
"What are both of you doing here?" he asked coldly.
Philip smiled politely before taking a seat opposite him.
"I’m here to familiarize myself with my new office," he answered honestly.
Aaron almost choked.
His office?
He suddenly remembered that it wasn’t his office anymore.
Laurence smiled faintly before bowing respectfully at Philip.
Seeing this scene, Aaron frowned immediately.
Something felt wrong. Very wrong.
He slowly looked between the two men before narrowing his eyes suspiciously.
"Laurence."
"Yes, Mr. President."
Aaron clenched his fists tightly before asking slowly, "How long?"
Laurence smiled faintly. "What do you mean, sir?"
"Stop pretending!" Aaron suddenly roared angrily. "How long have you been working against me?"
Silence immediately filled the office.
Laurence sighed helplessly before finally answering honestly.
"From the beginning."
Aaron froze completely. "What?" He suddenly laughed in disbelief. "Don’t tell me—"
Laurence nodded calmly. "I’ve been working for the Michelson family all along."
Aaron felt as if lightning had struck him repeatedly.
His eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at the man before him.
"You betrayed me?" he asked softly.
Laurence shook his head immediately. "No, sir. I was never yours to begin with."
Aaron almost coughed blood after hearing that reply.
No wonder!
No wonder things became strange during the election.
He had always trusted Laurence more than anyone else. Never in his dreams did he imagine that his most trusted vice president belonged to someone else.
Just as he was about to speak again, another voice suddenly sounded from outside the office.
"Looks like we’re late."
The office door slowly opened once again.
Aaron’s face immediately turned pale.
Two men slowly walked into the office with several bodyguards following behind them.
The entire atmosphere instantly became oppressive.
Paul Michaelson walked in elegantly with both hands inside his pockets while Henry quietly followed behind him wearing his usual black mask.
Aaron’s breathing immediately became heavier.
He naturally recognized both men. Especially Paul Michaelson.
The real monster hiding behind countless businesses and political powers.
Without caring about anyone’s reaction, Paul walked directly toward the president’s chair before sitting down elegantly.
He crossed his legs slowly before looking at Aaron with amusement dancing in his eyes.
Aaron clenched his fists tightly.
Paul rested his chin lazily against his hand before smiling faintly.
"You look surprised."
Aaron snorted coldly. "Should I not be?"
Paul smiled slightly before asking calmly, "Tell me, Aaron. Did you really think I wouldn’t know?"
Aaron frowned immediately.
Paul continued calmly, "Just because I don’t like attention doesn’t mean I can’t control this country."
His smile slowly disappeared afterward.
"You should have known the moment you decided to betray me."
Aaron froze immediately.
Paul continued coldly, "You’ve stolen enough money from the people. You’ve made enough fake promises. Frankly speaking, you’ve become quite annoying."
Philip silently coughed beside him.
Quite annoying?
That was probably the gentlest insult Paul could offer someone.
Aaron suddenly laughed coldly.
"And what about you?" he asked mockingly. "You’re not a god, Paul Michaelson."
He slowly stood up from his seat.
"You won’t stay in that position forever."
Then his eyes suddenly landed on Henry sitting quietly on the visitor’s couch with his legs crossed.
He frowned slightly.
"You too."
Henry slowly raised his eyes to look at him.
Aaron smiled mockingly. "You can’t hide your face forever."
The moment those words left his mouth, one of the bodyguards suddenly kicked Aaron’s legs violently.
Bang!
Aaron immediately fell to his knees before Henry. Everything happened too quickly for him to react. He widened his eyes in disbelief before glaring at the bodyguard angrily.
Henry didn’t even bother looking at him.
He simply sat there quietly as if nothing had happened.
After several seconds, he finally spoke calmly. "I’m not hiding forever." His fingers tapped lazily against the armrest of the couch before he continued. "Not yet."
A faint smile appeared on his lips beneath the mask. "Very soon."
Aaron frowned slightly at his words.
Before he could ask anything else, the bodyguards immediately dragged him away from the office.
"No! Let me go!"
"You monsters!"
"This isn’t over yet!"
His angry voice slowly disappeared alongside his struggling figure.
Silence returned to the office once again.
Paul glanced lazily at Henry before standing up from the president’s chair.
Without waiting for anyone’s reaction, Philip Jones immediately sat down happily.
He couldn’t stop smiling while touching the expensive chair.
This had always been his dream.
Who would have thought becoming president would actually become this easy after cooperating with the Michelson family?
He suddenly felt that his future was brighter than ever.
Paul simply glanced at him briefly before walking toward the door.
Seeing his father leaving, Henry immediately stood up and followed behind him.
After walking out of the office, Henry frowned slightly before speaking.
"The election is over." Paul didn’t answer immediately.
"She’s back at her company now," Henry continued calmly.
Paul paused slightly before turning around to look at him.
Henry narrowed his eyes slightly. "Don’t you think it’s time to leave her company alone?"
The election was already over. There was no reason to continue troubling her anymore.
Unexpectedly, Paul suddenly smirked in amusement. He turned around completely before looking at his son meaningfully.
"Why would I?"
Henry frowned immediately.
Paul chuckled softly before continuing. "When the game has only just started."
