Chapter 66: Not a good person
Selena frowned as her head throbbed painfully.
She slowly opened her eyes, blinking several times to clear her blurry vision. Her wrists were tied tightly to the arms of a wooden chair with thick cloth, making it impossible to move. Even her ankles were secured.
"What?" She looked around in confusion.
The room was quiet. The lights were dim, and the expensive decorations made it look more like a private lounge than a prison.
Then her eyes landed on Abigail.
She was sitting comfortably on a nearby sofa with one leg crossed over the other. A glass of wine rested in her hand as she gently swirled it around, watching the red liquid dance inside the crystal glass.
She looked calm. Seeing Selena awake, Abigail smiled. "Oh... you’re finally awake."
A bodyguard standing nearby stepped forward and removed the cloth tied over Selena’s mouth.
Selena immediately took a deep breath. "You..." she hissed.
Abigail chuckled. "It took longer than I expected." She stood up and slowly walked over. "I’ve been waiting to meet you properly ever since the night you drugged me."
Selena’s face changed. "You’d better untie me right now."
Abigail remained silent.
"You have no idea what you’re doing." Selena raised her chin proudly. "If Henry finds out you kidnapped me, he won’t forgive you."
Abigail burst into laughter. "You really think I brought you here because I’m afraid of Henry?" She shook her head. "You’ve been overestimating yourself."
She turned toward one of the bodyguards."Bring it."
The man nodded before walking to a nearby cabinet. A few seconds later, he returned holding a small medical case.
When he opened it... Selena’s face instantly turned pale."No..."
Her breathing became heavy. She knew that injection. It was the same type she had once used against Abigail.
Her eyes slowly widened. "How did you get that?"
Abigail didn’t answer. Instead, she looked at the syringe for a moment before smiling faintly. "Funny, isn’t it? What people use against others always finds its way back."
Selena suddenly struggled against the ropes. "You can’t do this! Help! Somebody help me!" Her voice echoed inside the room.
Abigail leaned closer. "No one can hear you." she grinned.
Selena clenched her teeth. "You’ll regret this!"
Abigail ignored the threat. She looked at the bodyguard."Do it."
The bodyguard stepped forward. Selena fought desperately, but there was nowhere to go. Moments later, the injection was given despite her resistance. "You’ll regret this!" Selena shouted again, glaring at Abigail with hatred.
Abigail folded her arms."For your information...You can have Henry if you want. I don’t want him either."
Selena’s angry expression slowly changed into confusion. Then she laughed. "Really? You expect me to believe that?" She looked Abigail up and down before smirking. "You offered yourself to him from the very beginning."
"What kind of relationship starts with sleeping together?" She laughed again."I don’t even need to guess. He has probably touched you more than once already. That is it. I don’t want to leave him because he has once claimed me like that," she laughed. "Now... look at me... trying to get his attention."
Abigail stared at her quietly. Then she sighed."You should have told me all this from the beginning. You were so busy trying to hurt his innocent wife that you never stopped to think."
"Shut up!" Selena shouted.
"You definitely forced yourself into his life!"
Abigail’s frown grew deeper. "Ah, now I see why he replaced you. You’re too stupid and terrible at thinking. How could I offer myself to a man in a contract marriage just for a company alliance? Are you really that dumb?"
Selena froze in her chair. The words hit her like a slap. "It’s... a contract marriage?"
Abigail stepped even closer, her eyes cold now. She smirked, but there was no joy in it. "You really think I’m like those other girls who climb into rich men’s beds for money or support?" She let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "I may not have much money, but I have people who can give me more than I could ever want." Her voice turned icy. "But you were the one who made me sleep with him. You injected me that night."
Abigail gritted her teeth to control her anger. "If you had just come to me that night and told me about your past, or if you hadn’t interfered at all, I never would have signed that contract. You caused all of this with your stupid hatred. You pushed me straight into his trap."
"I’m not..." Selena started, but her voice came out calmer than before. The drug was working its way through her body, making her shoulders relax even though she didn’t want them to. She sighed. "Things are more complicated than you think. Fine, I accept that it’s my fault." Then her face twisted again. "But he has several pictures of you."
Abigail blinked, surprised. "What?"
"That’s when I knew you were his next target," Selena said. "He doesn’t do love, baby girl. But he does sex. He’s very good-looking, and once you see his face, you won’t be able to get away. Those innocent eyes make you believe he’s a good person." She shook her head, looking almost sorry for a moment. "I regret it now."
Abigail folded her arms and raised one eyebrow. "If you knew he wasn’t a good person, why were you chasing him everywhere?"
Selena sighed again. Sweat was starting to bead on her forehead as the drug took stronger hold. "I like villains," she muttered.
The conversation left Abigail’s stomach twisting. She turned away from Selena and walked out of the secret room, her face burning with fury. "Set her free," she told the guards outside. "Don’t let her fall into the hands of any more bad guys." She stormed down the hallway, anger bubbling inside her.
None of this felt right. The whole situation was getting messier by the minute, and she hated how trapped she felt.
She headed straight for the exit of the Jones hall, ready to leave everything behind. But as she reached the big doors, two huge bodyguards stepped in front of her, blocking the way like human walls. Abigail glared at them. "Move."
One of them sighed and bowed his head slightly. "Boss wants to see you."
Abigail rolled her eyes. Just then, a familiar scent hit her nose — that mix of expensive cologne and something sharp that always made her heart skip. She sighed and turned around slowly.
There he was, Henry, standing not too far away with his hands tucked casually in his pockets. She hated to admit it, but he looked incredibly handsome. The black lace mask covering part of his face only made him seem more mysterious, like some character from a dark fairy tale.
"What?" she asked, her voice sharp with irritation.
Henry checked his wristwatch, then turned on his heel without another word. "Follow me."
Abigail rolled her eyes again but found herself walking after him anyway. Her feet moved even though her mind screamed at her to turn around. They walked through the fancy halls until they reached a guest room.
When she stepped inside, she had to pause for a second. The room was beautiful, decorated with expensive furniture, soft lighting, and little details that screamed money. She wondered why Mr. Jones even had a room like this tucked away.
Henry closed the door behind them and loosened his tie with one hand. He looked at her directly, his expression hard to read behind that mask. "What’s with you and Archie?"
