Chapter 743: Why Aren’t You Letting Me In?!
All the female members of the Holy Guard were currently patrolling the area around the Golden Barrel Tavern.
This had been going on for the past three days.
They initially didn’t know why, but they’d gotten strict orders to make sure no one approached the tavern.
A small perimeter had been set up around it.
At first, they wondered if some very important guest was inside—maybe a diplomat from the capital, or perhaps a visiting noble from a distant kingdom.
But once they arrived and heard the constant moaning coming from within—women sounding like they were being eaten alive, screaming at the top of their lungs—they didn’t rush in to save anyone.
Instead, every single soldier there blushed.
They realized what was really going on. It was probably the young master inside, having the time of his life.
And judging by the number of voices, he had plenty of company.
They weren’t surprised by his behavior at all. They knew how much he loved women, how much of a womanizer he was.
They also realized they were basically in charge of his protection while he had his fun inside.
And honestly, if it was anyone else, they would have been pissed off.
They were soldiers sworn to defend the safety of the entire estate, willing to live and shed blood to protect the commoners—not stand guard for some noble boy throwing a massive orgy.
But when it came to Cassius himself, no one complained at all.
Everyone in the Holy Guard was grateful to him.
It was due to Cassius that they had been able to shine recently, and the protection and safety of the entire estate had gone up.
He had also given them so many amenities that made their lives much easier.
Not to mention, they liked him personally as well.
Cassius would often come by to talk with them, chat, laugh out loud, and share some drinks.
Every single member liked him quite a lot, even the most stubborn ones who kept to themselves.
There were even quite a few of them in the Holy Guard who had quite intimate relationships with him.
So standing guard while he had his fun? Annoying, maybe. But they did it without complaint.
Still, after three days of listening to nonstop moaning, even the most disciplined soldiers were feeling...worked up.
They were full of vigor and vitality themselves—they understood the urge.
But Cassius’s stamina seemed endless. He just kept going.
How many women were in there? How was he still moving?
A couple of soldiers had peeked through the windows. They described the scene inside as ’a war zone.’
Bodies everywhere. Women sprawled across every surface, completely spent, covered in bite marks and bruises and dried fluids.
They were getting antsy. A few even murmured about asking the young master for a ’favor’ once this was all over.
After all, sharing was caring, right?
Then—the air changed.
A massive, intimidating aura swept down the street. It hit them like a physical wave, pressing against their chests, making it hard to breathe.
Every soldier froze. Hands went to weapons. Postures stiffened.
This wasn’t normal. This wasn’t human.
Their casual chatter died instantly. They formed a defensive line, eyes scanning the darkness, hearts pounding.
What was coming? A demon? A monster? Some ancient evil awakened from slumber?
Just then—they saw a figure emerge from the shadows.
One woman.
White robes. Pink hair. Eyes blazing with golden fire. An axe in one hand, a hammer in the other. Her entire body radiated pink and gold energy so intense that the air around her seemed to warp.
This was Joy.
She had come with vengeance for her sisters.
Seeing this, the guards were utterly baffled. They never expected her to be here.
After all Joy was actually an ally.
Not only was she someone they supported since she smited evil and was the bane of existence for anything bad—but she was also close friends with the Holy Guard themselves, especially their leaders.
Which made them utterly confused, not knowing what to do.
Why was Joy coming over with such bloodthirsty vengeance?
Joy herself was caught off guard by this.
She had been expecting to fight some sort of organization that had kidnapped her sisters and lured them into the tavern.
But instead, the first thing she saw was a bunch of Holy Guard soldiers that she had even seen before, looking at her with confused and wary gazes.
She was utterly confused.
But then she looked behind at the tavern, and immediately she could sense multiple different auras coming from inside—every single one belonging to her sisters.
What was even more shocking was that normally those auras would feel holy and pure, but right now they were completely corrupted, something dark seeping into them.
This made Joy release even more pressure, causing the knights to tremble harder, as if they could already see her axe chopping off their heads.
She approached even faster.
Seeing this, the knights didn’t know what to do.
They looked at each other in confusion, wondering if they should confront her, try to stop her, or question her.
But luckily, just in time, footsteps approached from the left.
When they turned, they were filled with relief.
It was Julie, Aisha, and Skadi, who had arrived at the perfect moment, seemingly having sensed Joy’s presence as well.
They immediately wanted to speak up about the situation, to explain what was going on.
"Captain." One of them started, but before they could say more, Julie held up her hand and walked right past them.
"Leave it to me."
That instantly calmed the knights down, seeing their leader had arrived.
Julie approached Joy nervously, bending down slightly to meet her eye level.
Joy finally paused, her overwhelming aura dialing back a notch at the sight of her close friend.
But before Joy could demand answers, Julie let out a somber sigh and met her gaze with helpless eyes.
"Joy...I think you should leave. You should go right now."
It caught Joy completely off guard. Suspicion flared in her chest.
"What exactly do you mean, Julie? Do you understand what you’re saying?"
Her voice was sharp. "You’re standing here, in front of a tavern where all my sisters have disappeared into, and you’re telling me to walk away?"
Her voice rose, angry but mostly at herself.
She’d been recuperating, too focused on her own recovery to notice her sisters vanishing one by one.
Fear gripped her—what if something terrible had happened to them? Rage boiled for letting it slip through her fingers.
But Julie just smiled sadly.
"I understand, Joy. And...I already know what’s going on inside."
Joy’s eyes widened in shock.
Julie shook her head quickly.
"But it’s not what you think."
She let out a nervous chuckle. "Actually, it’s even worse than what you think right now."
Joy blinked, stunned—not expecting that.
"Then why are you stopping me? Why are your knights guarding this place? What’s going on in there?"
Hearing this, Julie’s face twisted with difficulty, like she didn’t know how to explain it.
Seeing this, Joy immediately turned toward Aisha, who jumped in fright at her intense gaze.
"Tell me, Aisha. What’s going on? Why are you all so scared?"
Aisha was completely flustered.
"Uh, th-that is, um, the thing is, I—"
She stammered, words tumbling out incoherently, until she suddenly perked up.
"Oh right! I totally forgot. I have an experiment going on, and I can’t leave my lab for too long."
"Sorry, Joy. I won’t be able to speak to you any longer."
She turned and ran off as fast as she could.
Joy couldn’t stop her. But she wouldn’t be deterred.
She turned to Skadi next, fixing her with a pleading gaze.
"Come on, puppy. Tell me. Tell me what’s going on."
Skadi’s ears flattened. She looked at the tavern, then at Joy, and suddenly dropped to all fours.
"Woof? Woof woof! Skadi is just a puppy! Puppies don’t understand human words or complex social scandals! Skadi is just an adorable doggy who needs to go find a bone far away from here!"
With a final, guilty bark, the wolf-girl sprinted off in the opposite direction, which made both Julie and Joy stare at her in dismay.
Finally, Joy couldn’t help but rub her head in frustration, like she had a headache. She looked up at Julie, who looked extremely guilty right now.
"Julie, we’ve been friends for so long. There’s no need to keep any secrets from me. Just tell me what’s going on."
But even though she heard this, Julie was still in a really difficult position.
She was cursing Cassius in her mind right now for making her a part of this embarrassing and humiliating thing.
She absolutely hated being looked at by her friend like this, not knowing what to say.
Finally, she let out a long breath.
"This is..." She shook her head and gave up "You know what? Just go. I wanted to stop you. I really did. What’s happening in there is something you definitely shouldn’t see."
"It’s going to break your spirit."
Joy’s jaw tightened.
"But some things can’t be stopped." Julie continued with a wry smile.
"So go ahead. Just...don’t say I didn’t warn you."
She gave Joy a pitiful look—the kind you’d give a child walking toward a cliff.
Then she waved at the soldiers. They parted, creating a path to the tavern door.
Joy hesitated for only a moment. Then she walked forward.
The closer she got, the stronger the energy became.
It wasn’t demonic. Not exactly.
It was...something else. Something primal.
Something that made her skin prickle and her breath come faster.
And the moment she touched the door handle—
—her face contorted.
Sin. Waves of it. Lust—thick, overwhelming, suffocating. The building radiated it like a furnace radiated heat.
Joy’s blessing let her sense the seven deadly sins in people, in places, in objects.
And this place was drowning in Lust.
But nonetheless, as terrifying as it was, she braced herself and swung open the door.
The moment she did that, a wave of lustful energy hit her in the face, making her take a step back.
It wasn’t just that. There was thick, hot, humid air inside the building, almost like an aphrodisiac that made Joy’s breath heavy.
Her eyes grew limpid, her face flushing red. Just breathing the air of the place was enough to make her feel something stirring inside.
But she gritted her teeth and drew her holy hammer.
Now wielding both an axe and a hammer, she looked ready to face the devil itself to save her sisters.
She didn’t even mind dying in this battle.
That was how determined she was.
But...the sight that greeted her made her weapons clatter to the floor.
There was no demon.
There was only shattered purity.
