Chapter 406: Leng Yue's Devotion
「In Leng Yue's bedroom.」
Leng Yue brought over a first-aid kit, her eyes full of worry as she waited at his side.
Zhao Dong lifted a hand and said awkwardly, "Hey... could you help me take off my shirt?"
"My arm is injured. I can't really use it..."
"Of course!" Leng Yue hurriedly stepped forward and helped Zhao Dong take off his T-shirt.
Seeing the bloody hole in Zhao Dong's arm, she felt a pang of heartache.
"Does it hurt?" Leng Yue gently held his arm, tears welling in her eyes.
"It's nothing, just a minor injury."
Zhao Dong shook his head, then clenched the discarded shirt between his teeth. He picked up a small nearby knife and sterilized it in alcohol.
Taking a deep breath, he plunged the blade directly into the wound.
"UGH!"
The intense pain was immediate. Despite his incredible willpower, the agony made his body tremble violently as muffled groans escaped his lips.
"Zhao Dong... what should I do? How can I help you?"
Seeing Zhao Dong break out in a cold sweat, his face pale with pain, Leng Yue grew frantic. She paced anxiously, at a complete loss for how to help him.
Zhao Dong didn't answer, continuing to debride the wound with the small knife.
"Ngh... UGH!"
Stifled groans erupted from his throat. The sweat drenched his back, making him look as if he had just stepped out of a shower. Seeing this, Leng Yue suddenly climbed onto the bed and hugged him tightly around the waist from behind.
"I'm sorry... it's my fault you're like this... I'm so sorry..."
Leng Yue held him close, oblivious to her soft chest pressing against his back. She buried her head in his shoulder, her beautiful eyes overflowing with tears of guilt and heartache. She didn't know how to lessen his pain; all she could do was hold him and offer what little emotional support she could.
Zhao Dong was too consumed by pain to notice her actions.
After a long moment, he breathlessly put down the knife and picked up a pair of tweezers. He extracted the bullet with a smooth pull.
Leng Yue breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it. But in the next moment, her eyes widened in horror as Zhao Dong picked up the bottle of alcohol.
At the same time, the hand Zhao Dong held the alcohol with was also trembling.
Without any anesthesia... Just the thought of pouring alcohol directly onto an open wound is enough to send a chill down one's spine!
However, failing to disinfect the wound immediately would lead to an infection, a fate far more terrifying than the bullet itself.
Leng Yue said nothing, simply tightening her embrace from behind, her action steeling his resolve.
He gritted his teeth and poured the alcohol directly onto the wound.
"AAAAHHH!!!"
The shirt clenched between his teeth flew out as a raw scream tore from his throat. His body convulsed, and he collapsed onto the bed. In a reflexive spasm of pain, his jaws snapped shut—right as his tongue slipped between his teeth.
Behind him, Leng Yue broke out in a cold sweat, realizing he was about to bite through his own tongue. She wanted to shove the shirt back in his mouth, but it was too far away. In a desperate, split-second decision, she lunged forward and pressed her lips forcefully against his.
The sudden softness made his pain-addled brain short-circuit. His jaw froze. Before he could react, he felt something cool and supple enter his mouth, carrying a faint, pleasant scent that stimulated his nerves.
It all happened in a flash. But just as quickly as it came, the sensation was gone. The hormonal rush faded, and the searing pain surged back with a vengeance.
Instinctively, Zhao Dong's hands shot out, grasping for something to hold onto, but he found no purchase on the soft bed.
Just then, Leng Yue's cool hand enclosed his clenched fist. She watched him, her gaze deep and sorrowful. The sudden contact was a shock. Zhao Dong took a deep breath, pushed her away, and focused on enduring the pain himself.
"Argh...!"
His features contorted in agony. Beside him, Leng Yue's eyes welled with tears. He's going through all this because of me!
Watching him suffer, her heart ached with both pity and a strange sense of being moved. She suddenly realized that far from being repelled by his recent actions, she felt a flicker of some new, unfamiliar emotion toward him.
Never mind, he took a bullet for me. Why can't I give a little something in return?
With tears still glistening in her eyes, Leng Yue leaned in and kissed Zhao Dong again.
Like tinder to a flame, their passion ignited instantly. The searing pain from his wound began to fade, replaced by a different kind of fire roaring to life within him.
Zhao Dong tore off a piece of gauze and crudely wrapped it around his wound. Then, he rolled on top of her, ripping away her blouse. In the heat of passion, all reason was thrown to the wind.
"Zhao Dong... don't!" Leng Yue's voice trembled as she tearfully tried to push him away, but she was no match for his strength.
Soon, Zhao Dong lowered his head to savor her beauty, and a tear slid from the corner of her eye. Looking at the man before her, a storm of complex emotions raged within her.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK...
A series of urgent knocks resounded from the villa's front door.
The two of them froze and immediately shot up.
"Who's there!?" Zhao Dong's expression darkened.
Leng Yue quickly grabbed her phone and tapped it a few times, pulling up the security camera feed from the front door.
"Chen Jun!?" she said, looking at the screen in confusion. "What is he doing here at this hour?"
Zhao Dong said nothing. He knew Leng Yue still had a soft spot for Chen Jun, and the two of them had just nearly crossed a line. With Chen Jun now at the door, the complicated situation was undeniably awkward. Damn it, I got carried away.
After her initial confusion passed, Leng Yue hurriedly grabbed some clothes to cover her chest, a complicated look in her eyes.
"Do you want to see him?" Zhao Dong asked, breaking the silence.
Leng Yue bit her lip, saying nothing for a long moment. Finally, she lowered her head and murmured sorrowfully, "Zhao Dong... I... if I don't answer the door, you know his personality. He won't just leave."
"Could you... could you hide somewhere first? I'm afraid if he sees you, you two will get into a fight..."
Zhao Dong certainly didn't want to hide like a thief, but seeing her conflicted expression, he couldn't bear to refuse.
He nodded. "Okay, I'll stay here in the room. You go see him."
"Th-thank you..."
Leng Yue took a set of clothes from the wardrobe, went into the bathroom to change, and then headed downstairs. Before closing the door, she looked back at Zhao Dong, who was sitting on the bed re-bandaging his wound, her eyes filled with guilt.
「Downstairs.」
The knocking grew more insistent. Leng Yue composed her expression, then opened the door with a frosty demeanor.
"What were you doing? Why did it take so long to open the door?" Chen Jun demanded as he barged in unceremoniously. "Do you have someone else in here?"
With that, he started heading for the stairs.
"Chen Jun! That's enough!" Leng Yue's angry shout stopped him in his tracks. "What do you think this place is? Barging in like this... what do you take me for?"
He turned back, looking awkward. "Yueyue, I... I was just worried about you, that's all."
"Is this your idea of showing concern? Banging on my door in the middle of the night?" Leng Yue snapped. "State your business. I have work tomorrow.
"If there's nothing important, you can leave now!"
