Top Soldier Pursued by a Beauty

Chapter 335: Mother's Photo

Alzheimer's disease is primarily caused by extensive damage and death of brain tissue.

As Aunt Mei had said, Lord Lei was indeed suffering from Alzheimer's.

"Do you have silver needles?"

"We have some left over from the last doctor," Aunt Mei said, retrieving a set of silver needles and handing them to Zhao Dong.

Taking the needles, Zhao Dong immediately selected one and plunged it toward Lord Lei's temple.

"Stop! The temple is a fatal pressure point! Are you trying to kill Lord Lei?" Aunt Mei's expression changed, her eyes filled with murderous intent.

"You can't rebuild without first destroying something. When I say I can cure him, I mean it!" Zhao Dong said, his hands never ceasing their motion.

Aunt Mei was frantic, but the silver needle in Zhao Dong's hand had already pierced Lord Lei's temple.

Lord Lei's body shuddered violently.

Next, Zhao Dong took another silver needle and inserted it into the opposite temple. Holding the needles, he channeled wisps of Spiritual Energy, as fine as silk threads, into Lord Lei's body. At that moment, Zhao Dong was like a master tailor, meticulously manipulating the silk-like Spiritual Energy to repair the damaged nerves in Lord Lei's brainstem.

Two hours passed in the blink of an eye.

Zhao Dong was completely drenched in cold sweat. Even with his Foundation Establishment cultivation, an operation of this delicacy had consumed a massive amount of his mental energy. Behind him, the palms of Lord Gui and Aunt Mei were slick with sweat.

"It's done!"

Just then, Zhao Dong withdrew the needles and let out a long breath.

He patted Lord Lei on the shoulder. Lord Lei's eyes fluttered open, his gaze groggy and unfocused.

Seeing that Lord Lei was unharmed, Aunt Mei breathed a sigh of relief and hurried forward. "Lord Lei..." she said respectfully.

Lord Lei glanced sideways at her, his eyes still empty and devoid of light.

Seeing this, Aunt Mei's heart trembled.

Of course... I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up...

Filled with disappointment, Aunt Mei was about to turn and show her guests out when a sharp glint of light suddenly flashed in Lord Lei's eyes.

"Aunt... Mei..."

That one name sent a jolt through Aunt Mei, and her eyes began to redden. She whipped her head around and rushed to Lord Lei's side, grabbing his hand. "Lord Lei... you... you remember me?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"Of course... I feel like I've been asleep for a very long time... I'm finally awake."

Lord Lei turned to Zhao Dong. "Young man, you're the one who saved me, aren't you?" he asked gratefully.

"I am," Zhao Dong confirmed with a slight nod.

"Thank you for your incredible kindness, young man. I will never forget this."

Lord Lei struggled to sit up, intending to cup his fists in thanks.

Zhao Dong gently pushed him back down. "Lord Lei, your body has just started recovering. You mustn't move recklessly," he said with a smile. "You need to rest for the time being to allow the revived brain cells to adapt to your body."

"Yes, thank you... thank you..."

As Lord Lei nodded repeatedly, Aunt Mei tossed the gun in her hand aside and bowed deeply to Zhao Dong, her heart filled with remorse. "I was blind to your greatness and offended a divine doctor. Please forgive my rashness..."

"It's nothing," Zhao Dong said with a wave of his hand. "You were only thinking of Lord Lei's well-being."

With that, he got straight to the point. "Lord Lei, I've come this time to ask you about someone."

As he spoke, Zhao Dong produced the Jade Pendant from within his clothes.

Lord Lei's gaze fell upon the Jade Pendant, and his old eyes suddenly blazed with a brilliant light. He then studied Zhao Dong intently, a thousand unspoken thoughts flashing through his mind. After a long silence, Lord Lei asked, "What is she to you?"

"She is my mother," Zhao Dong answered honestly.

"I see." Lord Lei squinted, then managed a smile. "Young friend, my memories of that time are a bit hazy, but I will tell you everything I know.

"I only know that your mother was a master cultivator. She was traveling south and ran into trouble when passing through Provincial City. It was Lord Gui who saved her. We sensed that your mother's identity was extraordinary and wished to foster a good relationship, so we took her from Lord Gui to oversee her recovery. After her injuries healed, she continued her journey south."

"Is that all?" A flash of disappointment crossed Zhao Dong's eyes.

"Yes, I'm afraid that's all," Lord Lei said with a wry smile. "She was a remarkable woman. If she weren't, I probably wouldn't remember her at all."

As he spoke, a thought seemed to strike Lord Lei. He went to a bookshelf and began rummaging around, finally pulling an old photograph from a dusty book.

Zhao Dong took the photograph and looked at it. It was a group photo of a much younger, high-spirited Lord Lei with several other men.

"What is the meaning of this?" Zhao Dong asked, confused.

Lord Lei pointed to a corner of the photo. There, barely visible, was the blurry back of a woman. Though indistinct, it was still clear that she was tall with an exceptional air about her.

"This... is the silhouette of your mother."

BOOM!

Zhao Dong's hands trembled as he stared intently at the photo. An indescribable feeling welled up inside him.

This... is this my mother?

A sourness stung his nose, and his entire body quaked with emotion.

Lord Lei gently patted his shoulder. "Young man, your mother went south all those years ago. If she is still in this world, she should be in the south now."

It took Zhao Dong a long time to compose himself. He looked at Lord Lei and said softly, "Thank you for the information, Lord Lei. May I... keep this photograph?"

"Of course," Lord Lei smiled. "I took it out with the intention of giving it to you. Oh, and take this as well."

With that, Lord Lei opened a drawer and took out a flawlessly smooth, jet-black stone, handing it to Zhao Dong.

"This is a Black Dragon Stone. Keeping it on your person has life-extending properties. It cost me nearly a hundred million to acquire it. Giving it to you today, young man, I'd say is more than worth the price."

"I can't possibly accept this," Zhao Dong quickly refused, waving his hand. "I treated your illness, and you gave me the information I was looking for. You owe me nothing, much less a treasure as valuable as this."

"It's not about being valuable," Lord Lei said with a bitter smile. "Young man, there's something you don't know. The truth is, right after I helped your mother, I was the target of an assassination attempt. It was your mother who intervened and saved my life. I wanted to thank her, but she had already departed. It has been a regret I've carried for many years. If you do not accept this Black Dragon Stone, I, Lei, will not be able to rest in peace even in death!"

Hearing this, Aunt Mei also chimed in. "Young divine doctor, please accept Lord Lei's gesture. He is a man who believes in settling all accounts, good or bad. If you don't accept, he truly won't be able to eat or sleep."

"Well... alright." Seeing no way to refuse, Zhao Dong could only nod in acceptance.

Only then did Lord Lei burst into hearty laughter.

Looking at the Black Dragon Stone in his hand, Zhao Dong's eyes also revealed a hint of astonishment. This stone was no ordinary object. It not only possessed life-extending properties but could also ward off evil and calm the mind. For a cultivator, carrying it could even accelerate the absorption of Spiritual Energy. For such a treasure, even a hundred million was likely a price Lord Lei could only secure by pulling strings. Under normal circumstances, an item like this would be priceless, unavailable no matter how much money one had.

Hmm, this stone would make an excellent birthday gift for Elder Lin!

Zhao Dong had been worrying about what to give him. The Black Dragon Stone was an outstanding choice. After all, though the stone was heaven-defying, it wasn't of much practical use to Zhao Dong himself.

The group chatted for a while longer. After making Zhao Dong promise to visit again whenever he was free, Lord Lei personally saw him and Lord Gui out of the villa.

「In the car」

Seeing Zhao Dong's silence, Lord Gui naturally dared not speak. Zhao Dong simply stared out the window, lost in his own world.

Suddenly, his phone rang. Zhao Dong glanced at the screen and answered.

Su Yurou's anxious voice came through the phone. "Zhao Dong... something's happened to my family..."

Zhao Dong raised an eyebrow. He had anticipated this, so he wasn't particularly surprised. "Alright. And?" he asked, his voice indifferent.

"Zhao Dong, I know my father offended you, but he's the only father I have," Su Yurou said, her voice trembling. "I'm begging you... please save him... please..."

"And how do you know I can save him?" Zhao Dong chuckled coldly. "Besides, he's the one who told me to get lost. Why should I go back?"

"If you could see the problem, you must have a way to solve it!" Su Yurou pleaded desperately. "Please, for my sake, just help this once, won't you? As long as you agree to save my father, the Su family will agree to any demand you make!"

On the other end of the line, Su Yurou had already started to cry out of desperation.

However, the frustration in Zhao Dong's heart didn't lessen. In fact, her words only irritated him more.

"Are you saying you're just like your father? You think I said those things because I wanted something from the Su family?"

"No, no, no..." Su Yurou said, startled. She quickly explained, "That's not what I meant. I know you help people without expecting anything in return; otherwise, you wouldn't have saved me twice. But I'm truly out of options... I... I don't know what it will take for you to help..."

Zhao Dong snorted. "Your father is nothing but a stranger to me. He brought this on himself, so let him bear the consequences."

A stranger?

Su Yurou paused for a moment before gritting her teeth. "Zhao Dong! If you save my father, then... then even if you want me... I'll give myself to you!"

PFFT! Having just taken a swig of mineral water, Zhao Dong nearly choked on it.

On the other end, Su Yurou pressed her lips together. "Zhao Dong... am I not attractive enough for you? Please, help me this once... Aren't we friends?"

Zhao Dong finally sighed. "Fine. I have no desire to save your father. It'd be for the best if that old fool just died. But for your sake, I'll help one last time."

After hanging up, Zhao Dong turned to Lord Gui. "Lord Gui, an issue has come up with the Su family that I need to handle. We'll meet again another day."

"Of course. You handle your business."

Lord Gui promptly vacated the car for Zhao Dong and hailed another cab for himself.

The car drove onto the Su family estate.

Su Yurou was already waiting anxiously at the entrance.

"Zhao Dong, you're finally here!" she cried out, rushing to his side. She grabbed his hand and immediately pulled him inside.

The manor's driveway was already lined with all sorts of luxury cars. The sounds of the Su family members wailing their hearts out could be heard from within the villa.

"What happened exactly?" Zhao Dong asked as they walked.

Su Yurou explained, "You said last night that something bad would happen to our family, but my father didn't believe you. But then, last night..."

As she spoke, Su Yurou suddenly froze, her face turning deathly pale as she looked around in terror.
