Top Soldier Pursued by a Beauty

Chapter 300: Lin Qingyun Preparing to Leave

In the small courtyard, the elderly couple, Zhao Kangyou and Zhang Cuimei, sat desolately in their empty home. They sat on the sofa in the pitch-dark living room without uttering a word. Zhang Cuimei was continuously wiping her tears, while Zhao Kangyou's eyes were red as he smoked.

At that moment, there was a CLICK. The unlocked door was suddenly pushed open, and a figure slowly walked into the dark house.

The elderly couple looked up, and in the moonlight, they could see the person's face.

Zhao Kangyou was frozen in shock. Nearby, Zhang Cuimei's face was also filled with disbelief. They stared blankly at Zhao Dong, tears silently streaming down their faces.

"Son... son... is that you? Have you come back to see Mom and Dad?" Zhang Cuimei's crying voice rose. She wasn't scared; there were only endless tears.

Zhao Kangyou murmured tearfully beside her, "Everyone says the spirit returns on the seventh night after death. So it's true... it's really true... Son... Mom and Dad miss you, we miss you so much!"

Zhao Kangyou couldn't hold back his tears anymore. His elderly parents hugged Zhao Dong, crying miserably. In their eyes, the Zhao Dong before them was definitely a ghost. But they weren't afraid. The ghost others would have shunned was the son they had yearned for day and night.

"Dad... Mom... Your son has been unfilial..." Zhao Dong's voice trembled.

Zhang Cuimei, wiping her tears, said, "Child... if you need anything over there, come to me in a dream... Mom misses you so much!"

A bitter feeling welled up in Zhao Dong's heart. After a few seconds of silence, he said, "Mom, Dad, you've misunderstood. I'm not dead... I'm still alive..."

As he spoke, the elderly couple stiffened.

Zhao Kangyou staggered over to Zhao Dong. Reaching out, he slowly touched his son's body. When he felt Zhao Dong's warmth, Zhao Kangyou trembled, and the dam of his tears burst.

"Dong'er... you're not dead... you're really not dead!"

Zhang Cuimei rushed over to embrace Zhao Dong, crying her heart out. "Son... my son! You're not dead... you're not dead... you almost scared your mom and dad to death!"

Zhang Cuimei cried hysterically, and after her tears were spent, she couldn't help but laugh through them.

Seeing his parents like this, Zhao Dong's heart ached. It's all my fault.

Zhao Kangyou wiped his tears and said, puzzled, "Dong'er, but at the time, you were clearly..."

Zhao Dong smiled. "Dad, Mom, actually, I was in a state of suspended animation... It was recoverable. Modern medicine has explanations for it."

"So that's how it is! It's good that you're alive! Your mom and I have something to live for again!" The elderly couple was still teary-eyed.

Zhao Dong looked at his parents, sighing once more.

Zhao Kangyou wiped his eyes and said, "Dear, what are you waiting for? Quickly make something for Dong'er to eat. He must be starving after not eating for days!"

Zhao Dong's stomach grumbled loudly in agreement.

Soon, his mother brought over a bowl of noodles. Zhao Dong was truly famished and began to eat ravenously. Under the light, the old couple watched him, their eyes full of happiness.

After quickly finishing the bowl, Zhao Dong wiped his mouth and said, "Dad, where's your phone? I need to make a call to Qingyun."

Now that he was alive, he needed to inform the women in his life as soon as possible to spare them any more heartache.

Zhao Kangyou smiled and handed over the phone. "Tell her quickly. Miss Lin has been heartbroken over you."

Zhao Dong sighed softly. Thankfully, he remembered Lin Qingyun's number and dialed it. However, the call went unanswered. He tried a few more times, but still, no one picked up.

Zhao Dong scratched his head, a puzzled look on his face.

Beside him, Zhao Kangyou frowned. "What's wrong, Dong'er?"

"No one's answering. I've tried several times," Zhao Dong said.

Zhao Kangyou slapped his forehead. "Dong'er, I forgot to tell you something!"

Zhao Dong was taken aback. "What is it?"

"Miss Lin came to our house yesterday," Zhao Kangyou said urgently. "She told us not to be so sad, and she left us a card with money in it. Then she said she had to leave and wouldn't have time to visit us anymore!"

"What?!" Zhao Dong exclaimed, shocked. "Leave? Where is she going?"

Zhang Cuimei exclaimed from the side, "I remember now! I was being nosy and asked her. She said she was going to the Provincial City and wouldn't be staying in East Sea anymore."

Zhao Dong's face changed. He was silent for three seconds, then shot to his feet, his voice trembling. "Mom, when did she say she was leaving?"

Zhang Cuimei shook her head. "We didn't ask that. I don't know."

With no time to think, Zhao Dong immediately searched for flights. The primary way to get to the Provincial City from here was by plane, so Lin Qingyun would most likely take a flight.

Yesterday... there were no flights to the Provincial City!

There was one today, in just one hour!

Could it be... that flight?

Zhao Dong gritted his teeth and, without another thought, bolted out the door.

"Dong'er, slow down!" his mother's concerned voice called after him, but Zhao Dong didn't have a moment to spare and rushed away.

He hailed a taxi, and twenty minutes later, he arrived at Lin Qingyun's house. He had to check if she was home first.

Arriving at Lin Qingyun's small villa, Zhao Dong's heart pounded and his palms began to sweat. He went to the front door and knocked.

When no one responded, his heart tightened. He peered inside through the floor-to-ceiling windows and was stunned by what he saw.
