Chapter 277: The Patriot Zhang Ming
The two of them made their way through a deep forest path, finally arriving at their destination—the Zhao family's long-abandoned ancestral home.
The lush woods concealed the old mansion, making it feel like a corner of the world forgotten by time.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the treetops, casting mottled patterns across the crumbling walls and adding an eerie beauty to the stillness.
Zhao Dong expertly parked the car in an unremarkable clearing, then cautiously led Xu Yafei toward the old house.
Xu Yafei looked around, her eyes betraying her surprise. She had never imagined that Zhao Dong's family possessed such a secret place.
The old house was far more dilapidated than she had imagined. The walls were covered in ancient vines, which grew wantonly as if telling a story of unspoken loneliness. The courtyard was a desolate scene, overgrown with weeds.
She turned to Zhao Dong, her eyes filled with confusion. "Zhao Dong, is this your home? Why is it so run-down?" Her voice was gentle, yet it could not hide her shock.
Zhao Dong nodded, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He explained, "This is the old house my grandfather left behind. No one has lived here for a long time. The family moved to the city, and it gradually fell into disrepair." He paused, then added, "But this place is quite secluded. Hong Wu's people shouldn't be able to find it."
With that, he led Xu Yafei into a room that was in relatively good condition.
Though the room was spartan, it exuded an air of bygone eras. An old wooden bed, a rickety chair, and a dust-covered table constituted all of its furniture.
Zhao Dong had Xu Yafei sit on the bed while he stood before her. As he looked at her pale, tired face, a powerful desire to protect her surged within him.
He took a deep breath, resting his palm gently on Xu Yafei's back as a stream of warm Spiritual Energy slowly flowed into her body.
Xu Yafei felt a warm current spread throughout her, and the pained expression on her face gradually eased. She closed her eyes, quietly savoring this rare moment of peace and warmth. Her heart filled with gratitude and a sense of reliance, as if she had just found a long-lost source of support and solace.
After a while, Zhao Dong withdrew his hand. "How do you feel? Better?" he asked with concern. His voice was tender yet firm, as if it held a magic that could calm one's soul.
Xu Yafei nodded, offering a weak smile. "Much better. Thank you, Zhao Dong." Her voice was low but filled with genuine emotion, each word heavy with unspoken gratitude and affection. "If it weren't for you, I probably would have died long ago." As she spoke, her eyes reddened, and tears welled up but refused to fall.
Listening to Zhao Dong's steady heartbeat and feeling his profound, unwavering affection, Xu Yafei's heart filled with emotion and a sense of security. She hugged his waist tightly, as if wanting to answer his commitment with her own strength. "Thank you, Zhao Dong," she whispered again, her voice deep with gratitude, as if every word carried an unspoken weight of meaning. "I'll always be by your side, ready to face the storms of the future with you."
Saying this, she lowered her head and rested her cheek against his chest, quietly listening to his heartbeat as if drawing strength from it.
Although she enjoyed her time with Zhao Dong, she knew she couldn't stay here for long.
Zhao Dong stroked Xu Yafei's hair and said softly, "I'll treat you one more time, but you need to get back quickly. Hong Wu is a very suspicious person."
Xu Yafei nodded. Zhao Dong promptly began the treatment, neutralizing the power of the Beast Pill within her. Soon, an indescribable sense of comfort spread through her.
「Half an hour later」
Zhao Dong retracted his hand, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "This treatment should suppress the Beast Pill's power for two months, so you won't have a relapse. You should go back now. It isn't safe to stay here long."
Xu Yafei looked deeply at Zhao Dong, then leaned in and kissed his forehead.
Unable to contain his desire any longer, Zhao Dong pulled her into a passionate kiss.
An unknown amount of time passed. Finally, Xu Yafei departed, disappearing down the wooded path, her faint silhouette lingering for a moment before vanishing among the trees.
Zhao Dong remained in the old house, a place Hong Wu's men were unlikely to find for some time. He decided to explore the old house.
Suddenly, in a neglected corner, he found a small jar.
Zhao Dong froze, his brow furrowed. What is this?
He tried to open it, and his expression immediately turned to shock.
Inside the jar was a single drop of dark red Essence Blood that pulsed with a powerful aura.
