Chapter 275: Settling the Parents
At that moment, Xu Yafei's heart leaped into her throat, and her body trembled uncontrollably.
Zhao Dong's voice was not on the other end of the line. Hong Wu furrowed his brow, looking puzzled.
After a few seconds, a young woman's voice answered, "Hello?"
Hong Wu narrowed his eyes and hung up. Xu Yafei breathed a sigh of relief, and her expression turned cold as she stared at Hong Wu.
"Hong Wu, you bastard! If you want to kill me, just say so. Why bother with these ridiculous excuses? I already told you, I haven't been in contact with Zhao Dong!"
Hong Wu grinned at her. "Baby, I was just teasing you. Look how scared you got."
With that, he slowly put away his pistol and walked over to Xu Yafei. He reached out to touch her face and said in surprise, "Why is your face covered in sweat? Are you that nervous?"
Xu Yafei's heart sank. She retorted coldly, "Let's see how you'd feel with a gun pointed at your head."
Hong Wu chuckled. "Yafei, I apologize. It was my mistake."
Xu Yafei turned her face away, refusing to look at him. He forced a bitter smile and said, "Yafei, I don't know what's gotten into me lately. Maybe I haven't been resting well. I even dreamed that you and that Zhao Dong kid were involved…"
Xu Yafei suddenly raised her hand, feigning extreme anger as her palm swung toward Hong Wu's face.
Hong Wu grabbed her wrist. "Yafei, don't be so angry," he said with a laugh. "You're acting strangely."
Xu Yafei took a deep breath, staring coldly at him. "Hong Wu, do you really expect to keep me trapped for the rest of your life?"
Hong Wu smiled. "What are you talking about, Yafei? Isn't it good to be by my side? You're the famous Mrs. Hong of East Sea. You have wealth, honor, and everything at your fingertips. No one dares to mess with you. Isn't this a good life?"
She gave a bitter laugh. "Hong Wu, I don't like this kind of life at all. Can you please let me go?"
His gaze turned frigid. "Xu Yafei, don't be ungrateful. I've been finding doctors to treat your illness for years. You won't live long without me!"
Xu Yafei gave a cold sneer, desperately wanting to mock him. My illness? Zhao Dong can solve that! But she kept the thought to herself and said icily, "You only find people to treat me so you can keep me by your side. Don't think I don't know what you're really thinking. If it weren't for your… problem… I would have been defiled by you long ago."
"Enough!"
Hong Wu erupted in a rage, his eyes turning bloodshot. Her words had clearly struck a nerve.
SLAP!
He slapped Xu Yafei hard across the face, panting heavily. "Xu Yafei, I'm warning you! You are my woman, and you will be my woman for the rest of your life! You live only because I live, and when I die, I'm taking you with me!"
"Hong Wu, you're a pervert! You're a monster!" Xu Yafei touched her stinging cheek, tears falling silently.
Hong Wu scoffed. "Don't think I haven't noticed. You've been like a different person ever since that Zhao Dong kid showed up—always so secretive. I'm warning you, don't let me find a single trace of anything suspicious, or you will die. And it won't just be you. You'll drag others down with you. You know what I mean."
"Hong Wu, I'll fight you to the death!" Xu Yafei's eyes filled with tears as she snatched a fruit knife from a nearby table and lunged at him.
He slapped the knife from her hand and seized her by the throat, his eyes gleaming with murderous intent. "You bitch! How dare you attack me? I'm going to have my fun with you until you're dead!"
Hong Wu threw her onto the bed, his eyes filled with a manic frenzy. He tore at her clothes, and soon, her beautiful form was revealed. His gaze burned with an intense desire as he pounced on her like a starving wolf.
Tears streamed down Xu Yafei's face as she struggled desperately. "You bastard, Hong Wu! Let go of me!"
When she realized struggling was futile, she fell into complete despair as hopeless tears flowed from her eyes.
The next second, however, Hong Wu was wracked by a sudden tremor. His fiery passion vanished, replaced by a look of pure irritation. He slowly rose, his gaze complex and evasive.
Xu Yafei wiped her tears and scoffed. "You're pathetic. You'll never be a real man—just a useless piece of trash!"
"Bitch!" Hong Wu slapped her again, leaving another glaring red palm print on her cheek.
He got off the bed and gave her one last chilling look before turning and leaving without another word.
Xu Yafei straightened her clothes, tears of humiliation welling up in her eyes. Forcing herself to calm down, she glanced at her phone, sent an address to Zhao Dong, and then deleted the message history. After a moment, she too left the villa.
Meanwhile, Zhao Dong had received Xu Yafei's text message. His heart was still pounding. He had instinctively felt something was wrong with the earlier phone call, so he had refrained from speaking first. After all, he knew Xu Yafei was with Hong Wu and didn't want to alert the man. So he had remained silent, wanting to hear what was happening on the other end. As a former special forces operator, Zhao Dong immediately had a bad feeling when the line remained quiet. He had played a pre-recorded female voice, which seemed to have worked.
Seeing Xu Yafei's message, he breathed a sigh of relief. She must be safe.
But Zhao Dong's worries soon returned. With Hong Wu having issued a city-wide manhunt, he was certain the man would go after his parents if he couldn't be found. At this thought, an idea formed. He would send his parents to Han Chuxue's house. The Han Family was one of East Sea's most prominent families, and even someone as brazen as Hong Wu wouldn't dare storm their home to kidnap people. Besides, Hong Wu had no way of knowing if his parents were there.
Without further hesitation, Zhao Dong explained to his parents that some trouble had come up and they needed to lie low for a while. His parents were understanding people; they knew their son was reliable and wouldn't ask this of them unless it was absolutely necessary. They agreed without argument, and the family of three set off for the Han residence.
When they arrived, Han Chuxue was taken aback. Zhao Dong quickly explained his predicament.
Outside the Han Family villa, Han Chuxue bit her lip and gazed at him somberly. "Zhao Dong, I'll take good care of Uncle and Auntie… You have to take care of yourself, too. Please be safe. I don't want anything to happen to you." As she spoke, her eyes began to redden, tears welling up. They had both fully accepted each other by now, and her feelings for him were real.
Zhao Dong was touched by her concern. He pulled her into his arms and said, "Chuxue, don't worry, I'll be fine. Just look after my parents for me. It'll be three days at most."
Wiping her tears, Han Chuxue replied, "But what about after these three days? Hong Wu will still try to kill you."
A cold glint appeared in Zhao Dong's eyes. He was silent for a moment before saying softly, "Chuxue, I'll tell you the truth. The reason I'm not running is because I intend to kill Hong Wu… It's time to settle things with him for good."
Han Chuxue's pupils constricted, and she exclaimed in shock, "Zhao Dong… do you have any idea what you're saying? Hong Wu's background is terrifying, and his influence is immense! He has masters like Kou Hongmin at his side. How could you possibly kill him?"
Zhao Dong smiled faintly. "Don't worry. Things between Hong Wu and me have reached a point of no return. If I don't try to kill him, I'll be the one who dies. But if I'm considering this, it's because I have a trump card of my own. You can rest assured."
Han Chuxue pursed her lower lip, her eyes red. "Zhao Dong, you have to be careful… You can't leave me behind."
Zhao Dong nodded firmly. "I won't, Chuxue."
After saying goodbye to his parents and exchanging a few pleasantries with Han Qingtian, Zhao Dong left.
At that moment, Hong Wu's bounty order spread throughout the entire East Sea underworld, and everyone began hunting for Zhao Dong. It had been years since such an order was issued, and its appearance stirred up a bloody storm. The masters of the underground were all astir, every one of them searching for him.
「Half an hour later.」
Zhao Dong got out of a car in front of an ordinary residential complex in East Sea. This was the address Xu Yafei had sent him. He scanned the area, making sure he wasn't being followed before finally heading inside.
Ten minutes after he entered, a plain Volkswagen drove in. The driver was none other than Xu Yafei. She hadn't driven her Porsche, instead switching cars twice on the way to ensure she wasn't followed. The entire journey, she had been on edge. All of East Sea's underground masters were on the lookout for Zhao Dong, and it was clear Hong Wu hadn't let his guard down with her. He was likely watching her, hoping she would lead him to a clue. Coming here had taken great courage and meant taking a huge risk.
Despite the danger, Xu Yafei had come anyway. She missed him…
Meanwhile, Zhao Dong entered the building and went upstairs. The apartment, Xu Yafei had said, had a passcode lock. He entered the code and stepped inside. It was a small but cozy apartment, warmly decorated and impeccably tidy. Warm wood floors covered the ground, and sunlight spilled onto the balcony, where several green plants thrived.
Zhao Dong surveyed the room with some surprise. Xu Yafei really has a lot of properties. The other large, secluded flat was one thing, but I never expected her to have another apartment here. This place should be hidden enough. He breathed a slight sigh of relief and sat down on the sofa.
Soon, footsteps sounded from outside. Zhao Dong's muscles tensed instantly, and a deep sense of alertness washed over him. Narrowing his eyes, he flashed to the side of the door, ready to act without hesitation at the slightest hint of trouble.
The door opened.
A beautiful figure walked in. Zhao Dong froze, momentarily transfixed by the enchanting face before him.
Xu Yafei closed the door and simply stood there, looking at him, her eyes slowly reddening.
Watching her, Zhao Dong finally said softly, "Yafei…"
Xu Yafei closed her eyes. As two tears slid down her cheeks, she threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly and sobbing, "Zhao Dong… I missed you so much…"
