Top Soldier Pursued by a Beauty

Chapter 165: Ding Lan is Here too

Fortunately, Ji Xueyao had been pressing the brakes, so the car had slowed considerably, hitting the vehicle in front at only about thirty miles per hour. The airbags deployed, but luckily, no one was hurt.

Zhao Dong rubbed his forehead and frowned. "Why would someone just slam on their brakes on the overpass? I really don't get it."

Ji Xueyao also looked helpless. She turned on her hazard lights and pulled the car over to the side of the road so as not to obstruct traffic.

Just then, two people stepped out of the Aston Martin they had hit. A man and a woman, they appeared wealthy, dressed in luxurious attire with an air of extraordinary presence. The woman had skin as white as snow and a graceful figure. Her face was beautiful, with bright eyes, slender willow-like eyebrows, and a pair of charming red lips that shone with a captivating luster. She had long, wine-red hair and wore a form-fitting black slip dress, revealing long, gorgeous legs. A pair of white high-heeled boots completed the look, lending her an air of sexy, bewitching charm. The sight of her luminous legs was enough to spark a man's imagination and stir his desire.

The young man beside her was clearly her brother, bearing a slight resemblance to her. He had a crew cut, wheat-colored skin, and was also dressed in lavish clothes.

The pair walked over, and the woman, with a hint of apology on her face, said to Ji Xueyao and Zhao Dong, "I'm so sorry. I had an emergency and had to hit the brakes. I'm sorry to have involved you."

Neither Zhao Dong nor Ji Xueyao had expected her to be so polite. Ji Xueyao's initial anger dissipated, and she smiled. "It's alright. It was partly our fault, too. We were distracted. Are you hurt?"

The woman shook her head and was about to speak when the young man beside her cut in, complaining unhappily, "How do you even drive? Honestly. What a waste of time! If you don't know how to drive, stay off the road!"

The woman immediately rebuked him. "Gu Zhou, what are you saying?"

The young man named Gu Zhou huffed. "But Sis, it's the truth! They're the ones who don't know how to drive. They crashed into us!"

Gu Moning glared at Gu Zhou before turning back to Ji Xueyao and Zhao Dong. "My brother doesn't know how to speak properly. Please don't take offense."

Ji Xueyao smiled and waved her hand to show it was no issue.

Gu Moning continued apologetically, "Look, I'm truly sorry, but I have an urgent matter to attend to and have to go. I'll have someone come handle the cars, and of course, I'll cover all your repair costs. My name is Gu Moning. Here's my number."

As she spoke, she took out a piece of paper, wrote down a number, and handed it to Ji Xueyao.

Ji Xueyao didn't think much of it. It was just a car, and it could be fixed. Besides, the woman's attitude was excellent. She nodded and said, "Alright, if you have an emergency, you should go. It wasn't a major accident, anyway."

"Thank you so much!"

With that, Gu Moning hailed a taxi directly on the overpass and prepared to leave with Gu Zhou.

Just as she was about to get in, Zhao Dong suddenly called out, "Miss, since you've been so nice about this, I feel I should give you a heads-up. You should find some time to get a check-up at the hospital."

Gu Moning was taken aback. She turned to look at Zhao Dong. "What do you mean?"

"There's something wrong with your health," Zhao Dong said. "It would be best to have it checked out at a hospital."

Gu Moning frowned. "How could there possibly be anything wrong with me? Are you a doctor?"

Zhao Dong shook his head and smiled. "I'm not a doctor, but that doesn't mean I can't diagnose an illness."

Gu Moning bit her lip, glanced at Zhao Dong one last time, and then got into the taxi and left without another word.

In the car, Gu Zhou said disdainfully, "Sis, can you believe the guys in East Sea these days? Trying to pick you up with such a lame pickup line. It's so corny. Does he really think the young miss of the Gu Family, one of the Four Great Beauties of East Sea, would fall for something like that?"

Gu Moning sighed. "Forget about that. Let's focus on the upcoming Jewelry Convention. It's being held in East Sea this time, and our Gu Family is the organizer. We have to ensure everything goes off without a hitch!"

Gu Zhou huffed. "Don't worry, Sis. Our family has been in the jade business for decades. Besides, it's being held right here in East Sea. When it comes to jewelry and jade, nothing fake can get past the Gu Family. Trust me, it'll be fine!"

Gu Moning clenched her teeth and said nothing, but she couldn't help feeling even more anxious.

A Jewelry Convention was being held in East Sea soon. It would feature not only a variety of precious gems but also, it was said, some mysterious items related to the Cultivation World. Nominally a jewelry convention, it was, in reality, a gathering of all sorts of heavenly treasures and earthly materials. Rare jewels are tempting to ordinary people, but they are equally attractive to cultivators, as some contain special energies that can help enhance one's cultivation.

This convention was held every three years, and this time, it was the Gu Family's turn to host. Many prominent jewelry families vied for the honor, as it was a chance to increase their fame and earn a commission on all jewels sold. These were enticing benefits, but there were also risks. For instance, some brands might try to pass off inferior products at the exhibition. If the organizers discovered them, it would be fine. However, if they went unnoticed and were sold to customers who later found them to be substandard or counterfeit, the blow to the host's reputation would be disastrous.

Every convention had its share of minor incidents, like the discovery of shoddy goods. This time, however, the higher-ups had issued a decree: if any accidents were to happen on the hosting family's watch, they would be expelled from the Jewelry Families Alliance and lose their access to primary resources. This made the Gu Family frantic, terrified of any potential mishaps. They had been preparing for the event nonstop, and the convention was set to begin in two days. Just a moment ago, Gu Moning had received a call from her family asking her to return to handle another matter.

She had already been working for over twenty hours straight and was exhausted. Her mind had wandered for a moment, leading to the sudden stop and the rear-end collision.

As she came back to her senses, Gu Moning suddenly recalled Zhao Dong's words. He had actually told her to go to the hospital for a check-up. Could he have seen something? Impossible. He must be a swindler!

With that thought, she decided to push it from her mind and continue on to the family company with Gu Zhou.

But at that moment, Gu Moning's face turned deathly pale. A sweet taste filled her throat, and she suddenly spurted a mouthful of blood. Her vision went black, and she lost consciousness. The last thing she heard was Gu Zhou's alarmed cry, "Sis! What's wrong with you?!"

Meanwhile, Zhao Dong and Ji Xueyao took a cab to the restaurant Ji Xiong had booked, while Ji Xueyao's car was towed away for repairs.

In the car, Ji Xueyao suddenly smiled at Zhao Dong. "Do you know who those two were?"

Zhao Dong shook his head. "No idea. Why?"

"You really don't know?" Ji Xueyao asked, surprised.

"Would I lie to you?" he replied.

Ji Xueyao remarked, "Well, let me tell you. Those two are from the Gu Family—one of the Four Great Families of East Sea. That woman, Gu Moning, is the young miss of the Gu Family!"

Zhao Dong was shocked. "They were from the Gu Family?"

Ji Xueyao smiled. "Yes. Surprising, isn't it?"

Zhao Dong smacked his lips. "I really didn't expect that. To think I'd run into people like that today… Still, the Gu Family's young miss has a pretty good attitude."

Ji Xueyao laughed. "Gu Moning has always had a good reputation. She's beautiful and kind-hearted. The rest of the Gu Family, however, doesn't have such a great name. Honestly, if you knew more about them, you'd probably hate the Gu Family, but Gu Moning herself is a genuinely good person."

Zhao Dong stroked his chin and muttered, "I see…"

"Anyway, don't overthink it," Ji Xueyao said. "It was just a chance encounter."

Zhao Dong nodded with a smile.

Soon, their taxi arrived at the restaurant Ji Xiong had booked. They got out and walked inside. Just as they did, Zhao Dong saw a car parked by the entrance and froze.

Isn't that Ding Lan's car? Is she here too?
