Chapter 131: The Spirited Away of Madam Luo
"Sir, you..."
As he arrived at the auto mall, a salesperson with a wide smile greeted him. However, the moment she saw what Zhao Dong was wearing, her interest vanished.
She muttered, "Waited half a day thinking it was some big shot, and it turns out to be just another loser."
Zhao Dong heard the remark and frowned but said nothing.
The warmth in the salesperson's tone immediately evaporated, replaced by an indifferent and dismissive expression. She gave Zhao Dong a sidelong glance and said flatly, "Hey, if you're here to look at cars, just look at the ones outside. I don't have time to give you a tour."
Zhao Dong had no desire to deal with her and walked directly into the showroom.
The female salesperson was startled; it was the first time she had been so blatantly ignored.
Just as she was about to frown and question him, she saw that Zhao Dong had already strode into the dealership and was looking around at the various models.
"Hey, what are you doing!"
The female salesperson hurried over, sizing up Zhao Dong with an annoyed tone. "Seriously, what's with you? Didn't you hear me talking? What are you here for?"
Zhao Dong frowned. "What else would I be here for? To buy a car!"
The female salesperson laughed. "Oh, buying a car? Do you have any idea that the cars in this showroom are luxury vehicles worth hundreds of thousands, some even millions? The cars for thirty to fifty thousand are outside. Please go out there and look."
Zhao Dong frowned. He was all too familiar with salespeople who judged people by their appearance. Recalling the tens of millions in his bank account, he walked straight up to a dark green Bentley Continental and said calmly, "I'll take this one. Card. Paying in full."
The salesperson was taken aback, as were the other salespeople nearby. The next second, the entire showroom erupted in roaring laughter.
The female salesperson, gasping for air as she laughed, looked at Zhao Dong and said, "Young man, do you know how much this car costs? Over six million! Even some of the big bosses in East Sea can't afford it, and you're just going to buy it on a whim?"
Zhao Dong said coolly, "You certainly talk a lot. I said, card. The password is six sixes. Got it?"
He handed her the card, and the salesperson's expression shifted.
Could this guy actually have the money to buy the car? But could someone dressed like this afford it? He looks so ordinary, and his clothes aren't designer brands. He's as plain as can be. Could he really afford this car?
Half-convinced, the female salesperson swiped the card through the POS machine and entered the password.
As the machine beeped, the balance displayed on the screen made the salesperson freeze on the spot, completely petrified. Her eyes stopped moving. Her jaw dropped wider and wider, and her pupils trembled wildly.
The other salespeople were clueless. A colleague in her thirties walked over curiously. "Hey, what's wrong? Is this guy actually broke? That's pretty normal! We can just kick him out!"
While the others were chattering noisily, the female salesperson suddenly spun around, her tone having shifted to one of utter panic and reverence.
She was completely floored, staring at Zhao Dong as if her soul were about to leave her body.
Where did this big boss come from, and why is he so incredibly low-key?
Recalling her earlier mockery, the salesperson began to tremble. Looking at Zhao Dong, she handed the bank card back with both hands, bowed, and stammered, "Sir... this... this is your card! I... I'll take you to handle the paperwork for the vehicle."
The onlookers were stunned.
"The vehicle?"
"Damn! He's not actually buying it, is he?"
"That's over six million!"
"Sir, this girl is new. Why don't you let me take care of you instead?" a female salesperson in a black, form-fitting dress stepped forward. She flaunted her seductive waist and swayed toward Zhao Dong, resting a hand on his shoulder with an alluring gaze.
Zhao Dong frowned and said coldly, "Get lost. Don't touch me. You're filthy."
The saleswoman in the tight dress froze, her expression changing dramatically. "You..."
Zhao Dong's gaze was icy. "Me what?"
A cold sweat broke out on the saleswoman's back. How could she possibly afford to offend someone who could buy a six-million-dollar car? She pursed her lips, not daring to say another word. After a final glance at Zhao Dong, she lowered her head and scurried away.
Soon, Zhao Dong had completed the purchase. He drove away under the envious and astonished gazes of the sales staff.
The group of female salespeople was now filled with immense regret. They worked there hoping to snag a rich heir, but they had just let a golden opportunity slip right through their fingers. They sighed in despair, watching helplessly as Zhao Dong drove away.
Of course, Zhao Dong paid these salespeople no mind. They weren't on the same level.
He drove directly toward the entrance of East Sea University, arriving quickly. The area was crowded with people and cars. Everyone was supposed to head to a hotel soon. Zhao Dong found an empty parking spot next to a van and pulled in.
From a distance, he saw a group of people gathered at the school entrance.
There were many familiar faces: his old roommates and some female classmates he had been on good terms with.
And, of course, there were enemies like Zhang Shaowen and Lv Hao.
Ding Lan stood with Zhang Shaowen's arm wrapped around her waist. Her expression was calm, but beneath it lay a hint of sorrow that no one could decipher.
Zhang Shaowen, naturally, was at the center of the crowd, full of himself and basking in the flattery of those around him. After all, the Zhang Family's company was huge, and many of their former classmates knew of their wealth, so they did their best to curry favor with him.
Standing at the gate, Zhao Dong took a drag from his cigarette. He looked over and saw the high-spirited Zhang Shaowen, and he saw Ding Lan.
Zhao Dong narrowed his eyes slightly and gently exhaled a cloud of smoke. The past scattered and disappeared, just like that smoke. Whether her feelings for him had been real or fake, spurred by alcohol or some genuine affection, none of it mattered anymore. Whatever the reason for their breakup—whether she was forced or had no other choice—was no longer important.
The two of them were now strangers to each other.
Soon, the whole group walked over. They saw Zhao Dong, and many recognized him.
Zhang Shaowen's gaze fell upon him, his eyes turning cold. With a smile that didn't reach his eyes, he said, "Zhao Dong, you really came. I have to admire your nerve for showing your face."
Zhao Dong gave him a cool glance. "And who are you? Whether I come or not has nothing to do with you."
"You—"
Zhang Shaowen's expression darkened, and his hand tightened. Being challenged in front of so many people put him in an awkward position.
"Young Master Zhang, since when did Zhao Dong get so bold, daring to talk back to you like this? Aren't you going to teach him a lesson?" a boy named Zhou Junkai chimed in, sticking to Zhang Shaowen like a lapdog. Back in school, he had always been Zhang Shaowen's lackey. His impression of Zhao Dong was still that of the quiet introvert, completely unaware of how much he had changed.
Zhou Junkai's comment made Zhang Shaowen extremely uncomfortable. Goddamn it, you think I wouldn't teach him a lesson if I could? That bastard is a martial arts expert; there's no way I can beat him!
All Zhang Shaowen could do was mutter sullenly, "Why bother with someone like him? We're not on the same level. Right, Lan?"
Ding Lan bit her lip and remained silent for a moment before letting out a soft sigh. "Alright, everyone's here. We should get going to the restaurant."
Zhao Dong glanced at Ding Lan but didn't speak, which only made the coldness in Zhang Shaowen's eyes deepen. Ever since he started suspecting that Ding Lan might still have feelings for Zhao Dong, her every word seemed incredibly sensitive to him.
Glancing at Zhao Dong, Zhang Shaowen suddenly sneered, "Zhao Dong, I've chartered a bus for everyone, but there's no more room. You'll have to take a taxi."
Someone spoke up, "Shaowen, just let Zhao Dong on. We can squeeze a bit."
Zhang Shaowen immediately turned on him. "Squeeze my ass! If he gets on, you get off! Talk is cheap!"
The person who spoke was a man with glasses. He immediately fell silent, a look of helplessness and frustration on his face.
Zhao Dong glanced at him. The man's name was Wu Hang. They had gotten along well in school; he was a pretty righteous guy. But now, with his glasses, dull eyes, frail build, and streaks of gray in his hair, he looked weathered and haggard.
Zhao Dong smiled. "It's fine, Wu Hang. I drove here."
"You drove?"
Everyone's expression changed. They were only twenty-five or twenty-six, just a few years out of university. Just finding a job in East Sea was hard enough, let alone saving money. Not many of them owned a car.
And yet Zhao Dong had already bought one?
Someone immediately asked curiously, "Dongzi, what kind of car did you buy? Let's see it!"
"Yeah, you never post anything. You bought a car and didn't even show it off!"
"That's right, Zhao Dong. Where's your car? Let's all have a look," Lv Hao sneered.
Naturally, there were sarcastic people in the crowd who just wanted to see Zhao Dong make a fool of himself. They wore malicious smirks, assuming he must have bought some cheap domestic car for around a hundred thousand. Then they could mock him for it.
Zhao Dong just smiled and pointed toward the parking area.
Following his finger, everyone saw the two vehicles parked by the road.
One was a luxurious Bentley. The other was an ordinary, beat-up old van.
The crowd was stunned. The atmosphere grew quiet for a moment before someone burst out laughing.
"PFFT! Zhao Dong, after all that, you're driving that beat-up old van? Are you serious?"
