Tpm Chapter 218 Raising a Dragon Girl
---
By the time she was set down, the mechanical restraints had withdrawn.
The dark appendages no longer coiled around her limbs. Instead, they hovered loosely behind the red-clothed figure, still and watchful. She stood near the small flame on her own, tense but unbound, her tail flicking once in restrained irritation.
Her eyes remained fixed warily on the two figures in front of her.
Daphne crouched near the pot and gave the broth one final stir before ladling a portion into a metal bowl. Up close, the contents looked no more reassuring than before. Thick. Dark. Slightly glossy.
She held it out.
"Here," she said gently. "Just try a little."
The white-scaled girl did not move.
Her gaze shifted from the bowl to Daphne's face, then to Luthar, then back again. Her nose twitched faintly as she caught the scent. It was unfamiliar. Heavy.
She leaned back instead.
Daphne glanced at Luthar. "She understands us, right?"
"She possesses linguistic capability," he replied calmly.
Hearing that, Daphne tried again.
"It's food," she said softly. "You eat food, right?"
No response.
Her tail curled tighter around her leg.
Daphne sighed and lowered the bowl slightly. "Can't you help?"
"I am ensuring she does not escape," Luthar replied evenly.
The girl's gaze snapped toward him at that, clearly understanding more than she had shown.
Daphne studied her more carefully now. The white scales were clean, not cracked or dulled. Her wings were small but intact. Her posture was not aggressive. Defensive, yes. Alert. But not feral.
"What exactly did you bring back?" Daphne asked quietly.
"A Xenos," Luthar replied evenly.
Daphne blinked. "A what?"
"A sentient Dungeon-born entity. Humanoid morphology. Stable mana structure. Cognitive function."
She stared at him for a moment before translating it herself.
"You mean… a monster that thinks?"
"Yes."
Daphne looked back at the white-scaled girl, who was still eyeing the bowl with suspicion rather than hostility.
She crouched lower so they were closer to eye level.
"Do you have a name?" Daphne asked gently.
The girl hesitated, then shook her head slightly.
"I don't."
Her voice was soft. Clear. Not hostile. Just uncertain.
Daphne glanced briefly at Luthar before looking back at her.
The girl looked up again.
"Can you let me go?"
The question was simple.
"No," Luthar answered without hesitation.
She flinched slightly.
"Why?" she asked.
"You are a Xenos," he replied evenly. "You have survived this long, so you are not weak. However, you remain a Dungeon-born entity. In most encounters, that ends with extermination."
She stared at him.
"You are keeping me."
"Yes."
She lowered her gaze.
"But I'm a monster."
"Currently," Luthar said calmly, "you are an intelligent creature with limited demonstrated value."
Daphne shot him a look. "Can you stop confusing both me and her?"
He continued as if her comment did not matter.
"You are also aesthetically non-threatening. That increases tolerance."
The girl blinked.
"…What?"
"In simpler terms," Daphne muttered, "he thinks you're cute."
The girl stared at Luthar.
"…So I'm not being killed because I'm cute?"
"That is a contributing factor," he replied.
Her expression tightened.
Luthar tilted his head slightly.
"Your classification can change. If you demonstrate capability beyond visual appeal, you will be granted greater autonomy and treated accordingly."
"…Accordingly?" she repeated.
"As a person," he clarified.
Silence lingered.
Daphne rubbed her forehead. "You really don't hear yourself, do you?"
"I am perfectly clear," Luthar replied.
The girl continued staring at the bowl without touching it. After a moment, Luthar took the spoon from Daphne's hand and dipped it into the broth.
"Open your mouth," he said coldly.
Out of instinct, she obeyed, driven by a feeling she could not quite define. He fed her a single, measured spoonful. She swallowed while both Luthar and Daphne watched her face.
"Well?" Daphne asked.
The girl frowned slightly. "…It's weird."
"Unpleasant?" Luthar asked immediately.
She considered that. "…No."
Luthar extended the spoon again.
She hesitated only a second before taking it from his hand.
"I said I can feed myself."
He released it without argument.
She scooped another portion and tasted it more carefully. This time she let it sit in her mouth for a moment. The flavor shifted—earthy at first, then sharp, then something almost smoky beneath it. It wasn't like fish. It wasn't like anything she had hunted.
It tasted deliberate.
Daphne leaned closer. "Is that a good weird or a bad weird?"
The girl swallowed.
"It's much better than monster meat," she said honestly.
Daphne stared at him. "That's really not a good comparison."
She reached for another piece of cutlery from the pack beside her and dipped it into the bowl herself. She tasted it properly this time, not just a cautious sip.
"…It's not terrible," she admitted. "But it cannot be considered proper food."
The girl watched her carefully before taking another spoonful of her own. The flavor still felt strange—dense and layered, nothing like the simple sharpness of raw fish—but for her, it was a welcome change.
Since neither of them found the food particularly unpleasant, the bowl was eventually emptied between the two of them.
The girl ate with quiet satisfaction, while Daphne finished her portion with considerably less enthusiasm.
When the last of the broth was gone, the small flame crackled softly between them. The forest beyond the light remained dark and distant.
Daphne leaned back against a crate and exhaled. "That was really exhausting."
Luthar's gaze shifted to her.
Without comment, he retrieved a small metallic case from his coat and opened it with precise fingers. Inside rested several slim injectors.
Daphne noticed immediately.
"What is that?"
"It removes the need for sleep for the next seven days."
"No need. I don't think we are close enough for me to allow you to remove my need for sleep."
"You are currently compromised by fatigue."
"Then I'm just going to sleep."
"You volunteered to remain alert during first watch."
"And I am officially resigning from that watch."
He studied her for a moment.
"…Very well."
Daphne pushed herself upright and shot him a pointed look.
"Do not stab me while I'm unconscious."
"I have never done that."
"Who knows," she muttered under her breath before ducking into the tent without further argument.
Silence settled again.
Only the fire and distant night sounds remained.
The girl shifted slightly, clearly uncertain what to do next.
Luthar turned toward one of the packs and withdrew a folded set of clothes. Simple. Durable fabric. Dark in color.
He stepped closer and held them out.
"You will change into these."
She hesitated, then took the clothes carefully.
"…Are you going to watch?"
"No."
He turned his back immediately and walked several paces away, gaze scanning the treeline instead.
A few minutes later, she quickly changed into the new clothes, the sleeves slightly long, the fabric hanging loose but functional.
She stood awkwardly for a moment before asking quietly:
"Where do I sleep?"
He gestured toward the tent.
"You will share space with Daphne."
Her tail flicked once. "And you?"
"I do not require sleep for the next five days."
She studied him for a long moment.
"…You're strange."
She held his gaze a second longer, then turned and stepped into the tent.
The fabric shifted closed.
Luthar remained by the fire and resumed his surveillance of the floor.
