Chapter 210: Water screen
Within the white mist, Snow Frost Star Wolf moved with light, silent steps. Its frost-patterned body seemed to blend into the thick fog, and with Mo Fan’s Shadow Magic covering its presence, it slipped through the gaps between several Army soldiers like a ghostly streak of ice.
Due to the cover of shadows and mist, even the Japanese officer failed to notice them for a moment. He scratched his head in confusion, thinking he had seen an illusion.
Mo Fan entered Sea Battle City and immediately spread his Shadow Element outward. Thin black threads sank into the mist-covered streets, while faint silver Space ripples pulsed around him layer by layer. The battlefield within several kilometers gradually formed a rough map in his mind.
Very quickly, he located his teammates.
Among them, Mu Ningxue’s situation was the most perilous. Not far from here, she was fighting alone against a Commander-level Blue Valley Savage Beast. With her current cultivation, facing such a creature by herself was far too dangerous.
Mo Fan’s eyes immediately turned cold.
He wanted to rush over, but the main group’s situation was not much better. A mountain-like tide of green monsters was surging toward one of the buildings, surrounding the National Team members inside. If that defensive line collapsed, several of them would be swallowed by the monster wave in an instant.
Mo Fan made a decision quickly.
Clear the path first. Then go to Mu Ningxue.
He patted Wolfie’s neck. “Move!”
Snow Frost Star Wolf let out a low growl. Frost spread beneath its claws, and its enormous body shot forward through the white mist.
Soon, Mo Fan saw from a distance a mountain-like tide of green monsters surging over, besieging one of the buildings.
These were Sawtooth Green Demons—Servant-level sea monsters covered in green scale-like bumps, with saw-like jaws and lower bodies structured like frogs. Amphibious by nature, their jumping ability was extraordinary.
As the most prolific species breeding in Japan’s coastal waters, they had long served as cannon fodder. Yet, no matter how cannon-fodder-like they were, each one was still a Servant-level monster. With such overwhelming numbers, anyone would feel their scalp go numb.
In front of the building, all kinds of magical lights were flickering. It was the National Team members desperately holding the line.
Thankfully, the terrain was narrow, so they didn’t face too many enemies at once. A team of ten rotated shifts, barely managing to survive.
Mo Fan acted decisively.
In this kind of dense battlefield, nothing was more suitable than wide-area destruction.
A blazing Fire Star Constellation unfolded around him at frightening speed. Ordinary Advanced Mages needed several long seconds to complete such a spell, but Mo Fan’s casting was compressed, fierce, and practiced. The stars linked in barely three seconds, and the crimson constellation burned like a furnace opening in the fog.
Advanced Fire Spell—Heaven Flame Funeral!
Hell Fire!
The sky above the street suddenly turned red. Countless burning clouds gathered and collapsed downward, pouring scarlet calamity fire into the dense monster tide. The damp air hissed violently, white steam exploded outward, and the fog itself seemed to ignite.
Little Flame Belle’s cheerful cry rang beside him. Her calamity fire merged with Mo Fan’s flames, causing the falling Hell Fire to become even more tyrannical. Wherever the fire landed, Sawtooth Green Demons were reduced to charred fragments before they could even scream.
At the same time, Snow Frost Star Wolf charged into the side of the monster tide.
The humid battlefield was almost perfect terrain for Wolfie. Moisture condensed into frost around its body, and with every swipe of its claws, ice blades tore through rows of sea monsters. Its fangs bit down, freezing flesh and bone before shattering them into bloody ice fragments.
A royal, oppressive beast aura swept outward.
Some Servant-level sea monsters froze in terror before they could even leap. Others tried to swarm Wolfie, only to be pierced by rising ice spikes or crushed beneath its claws.
Zhao Manyan followed behind, his face pale from the sight. “Damn, Old Mo, your wolf is way too fierce!”
Mo Fan didn’t even look back. “Stop talking and protect the building.”
“Fine, fine! I know!”
Zhao Manyan quickly cast his Water Magic. The surrounding humidity made his Water Element unusually smooth, and a broad Water Shield unfolded in front of the National Team members, blocking the scattered attacks that slipped through Mo Fan’s flames and Wolfie’s slaughter.
The moment Zhao Manyan felt the water-rich battlefield responding to him, his expression changed slightly.
The sea, the mist, the tide, the rain-like spray in the air—everything here seemed to make his Water Element more active than usual.
For a brief moment, he thought of the Water Elemental Spirit Master Qixiu had mentioned.
If he really obtained that spirit, would his Water Magic become something completely different?
Mo Fan noticed Zhao Manyan’s brief daze and shouted, “Focus!”
Zhao Manyan snapped back to his senses and cursed, “I am focusing!”
The monster tide continued to surge in.
Mo Fan’s eyes flickered. Fire alone was not enough. He raised one hand, and violent purple-black lightning began to gather in his palm. Little Lightning Belle floated near his shoulder, her tiny hands clenched as if cheering him on.
A compressed Lightning Star Constellation flashed.
Advanced Lightning Spell—Silent Lightning Death Ray!
A thick beam of destructive lightning tore through the fog, piercing straight through a line of Sawtooth Green Demons. The bodies it touched exploded from within, their flesh bursting apart as arcs of lightning chained into the surrounding monsters.
The street instantly became a slaughter zone of fire, frost, and lightning.
One wave after another of Sawtooth Green Demons collapsed.
Immediately after, dim blue soul lights and remnant souls began soaring toward Mo Fan, flocking into the Little Loach Pendant like swallows returning to their nest.
Mo Fan’s eyes lit up.
This was exactly the kind of battlefield he liked.
Servant-level monsters were weak individually, but when the numbers reached this scale, they became a walking field of resources. Even if most only produced remnant souls, the sheer amount could still be fused into complete Soul Essences.
Mo Fan did not waste anything.
He controlled his fire carefully, killing quickly while leaving enough time for Little Loach to collect the souls. His gaze swept over the battlefield like a farmer inspecting a harvest.
“Not bad,” Mo Fan muttered. “This place really is rich.”
Zhao Manyan heard him and nearly stumbled. “Old Mo, are you seriously treating this like a harvest?”
“What else?” Mo Fan said. “You think I came here to sightsee?”
Zhao Manyan was speechless.
The National Team members inside the building suddenly perked up. Standing at the entrance, they were splattered with blood and reeked of rotten fish, but when they saw the sea monsters outside being burned, frozen, and blasted apart, their eyes filled with excitement.
“It’s Mo Fan!”
“He’s finally here!”
“Thank the heavens!”
Li Kai, Mu Tingying, Zhou Xu, and the others who had been struggling and harboring resentment were left speechless at the sight of Mo Fan’s terrifying power. All complaints vanished in the waves of cheers.
Even Ai Jiangtu, who had been calmly commanding the group, could not help but look surprised.
Mo Fan’s killing efficiency was too high.
He was like a moving disaster zone. Wherever he went, the dense monster tide was torn open by force. Fire burned the front, Wolfie froze the flanks, lightning pierced the center, and Zhao Manyan’s Water defense stabilized the rear. The entire collapsing line was forcibly held back by the two of them.
In just a short span, Mo Fan slaughtered nearly an entire street’s worth of sea monsters.
Thousands of Servant-level sea monsters fell one after another. After being gathered and fused by Little Loach, they yielded a considerable batch of Servant-grade Soul Essences.
Mo Fan was very satisfied.
Little Loach had not had a proper harvest in a while. This kind of large-scale battlefield was dangerous to ordinary mages, but to him, it was a rare opportunity.
Only the Commander-level monsters remained troublesome.
Once sea monsters reached Commander level, they became highly intelligent. A few such beasts caught in Mo Fan’s fire and lightning immediately retreated after suffering injuries. They realized this human mage was not someone they could casually swallow.
Mo Fan had no way to chase after those Commander-level sea monsters that dove back into the deep sea. The number of cannon-fodder sea monsters was simply too great, endlessly swarming in.
With his current killing efficiency, he might as well focus on the vast number of Servants. Thousands of Servant Remnant Souls combined were no less valuable than a single Commander Remnant Soul.
Within moments, the street had become a hellish battlefield, bathed in crimson flames, purple-black lightning, and pale-blue frost. Any sea monster that accidentally stepped into it was instantly reduced to shredded meat, as if it had walked into a death zone—nothing could survive.
“This guy…” Zhao Manyan stared at Mo Fan’s back, then at the old map hidden in his clothes.
He suddenly understood something.
If he wanted to stand beside monsters like Mo Fan, relying only on ordinary Water defense was not enough.
He needed his own path.
A Water Elemental Spirit.
If he could obtain it, then maybe one day his Water Magic could also become a domain that protected allies, suppressed enemies, and controlled an entire battlefield.
Gradually, not a single sea monster in this district dared to approach carelessly.
Atop the building, Mo Fan stood tall, his coat billowing in the wind. Little Flame Belle hovered by his side, Little Lightning Belle sat proudly on his shoulder, and Snow Frost Star Wolf stood below with blood and frost dripping from its claws.
For a moment, he looked like he was holding an entire street by himself.
At that moment, the tide unexpectedly began to retreat. Since the monsters near Mo Fan were the first to withdraw, from a high-altitude perspective, the first blank region to appear in the black sea tide was exactly at his location, making it seem as though he alone had driven off the entire sea monster army.
All the Japanese mages who saw this could not recover their senses for a long while.
After a long silence, someone finally responded to the general’s question.
“He’s from the Chinese National Team… he’s Mo Fan!”
Inside the building that served as a rest point, Ai Jiangtu and the others finally relaxed.
Zhao Manyan walked in afterward, still mumbling non-stop. This guy would always grumble when he had gone too long without flirting with women. He had totally lost the imperious manner expected of a rich young master from the Zhao Group and was now acting more like a spoiled village cousin who had been dragged into hard labor.
“Old Mo, I swear, every time I follow you, nothing good happens,” Zhao Manyan complained. “First a cursed bead, then a dying old master, then a Water Elemental Spirit clue guarded by sea monsters, and now we run straight into a tsunami battlefield. Are you sure you’re not cursed?”
Mo Fan glanced at him. “You still want the Water Elemental Spirit or not?”
Zhao Manyan immediately shut his mouth.
After a moment, he coughed and said seriously, “For the sake of my future Water Elemental Spirit, I’ll endure.”
Mo Fan smiled. “Good. Then stop wasting time. Mu Ningxue is still in danger.”
The moment he said that, the relaxed atmosphere vanished.
Mo Fan turned toward the direction where he had sensed Mu Ningxue earlier. His eyes sharpened, and the flames around him slowly compressed again.
The street had been cleared.
Now, it was time to go to her.
