Mo Fan at his best – Versatile Mage

Chapter 160: The Living Path is Cleared by Killing!

The rain had lasted for a few days straight. The people in the clock tower were already silent, overwhelmed by the sorrow of finding the group in the Space of Death, and now yet another devastating news had come...

“A quarter of the army is dead, only 2 from the three Hunter squads are alive, the Imperial Magicians are fighting by the Mountain Zombie there...” an Imperial Magician came reporting.

“Sigh, many are dead, but we still picked the Bridge of Death,” Ling Xi shook her head when she heard the news.

“We should have just fought with all we had, maybe we can still survive until the morning arrived. We still don’t know if the Dark Abyss is going to shift into the inner city. Maybe the Black Vatican is just trying to trick us. Now that we’ve lost so many people, we won’t have a chance to defend the inner city,” said Chu Jia.

“Don’t you think it’s meaningless to say something like that now? We’re only in this situation because we’ve underestimated the Black Vatican. You should say that if the Magic Association, Hunter Union, and all renowned clans had worked together to eliminate the Black Vatican, a disaster like this wouldn’t even happen! I don’t think the Black Vatican is fooling us; the Dark Abyss is going to drift into the city. We already know that the imperial tomb is under the Dark Abyss. It’s the fortunate among all unfortunates. I can already feel death closing in,” responded Du Xiao, who seemed to have a grudge against Chu Jia.

Chu Jia did not feel pleasant upon hearing the words. As he was about to respond, Du Xiao was already not in the mood to quarrel with him further.

He walked to the edge and summoned a pair of wings. The wings had an obvious tear on them. It was obvious that he had been injured before.

“What are you doing?” asked Chu Jia immediately.

“I’m well rested. I’ll go and save more people,” Du Xiao beat his wings and leapt into the air.

He was extremely quick. The rain nearby was swept away as the wings beat. Not long after, Du Xiao had already vanished into the distance.

——

The Space of Death...

The silver vortex finally disappeared. No more undead were falling from the sky. However, the broad area was now crowded with lots of ugly creatures. Zhang Xiaohou and Mo Fan both had grim expressions.

They had witnessed the enormous undead army up close, and even cleared a spectacular path to reach the Dark Abyss. However, they were escorted by an army of powerful Magicians then, and now, there were only two of them in the space.

Two, just two...

Zhang Xiaohou had only just broken into the Advanced level, and although Mo Fan was already stronger than before, neither of them could afford the slightest mistake in a place like this. There was no way the two of them could handle so many undead through ordinary means alone!

“Brother Fan...” Zhang Xiaohou’s forehead was covered in sweat.

The number of undead had exceeded his imagination. It was a lot more than the number of undead he had encountered before. The undead tide could easily devour the two of them whole.

Mo Fan’s expression turned cold. “Snow Frost Star Wolf, Lightning Belle, Little Flame belle come out!”

He immediately drew the Star Orbits and Star Pattern of the Summoning Element.

The moment the summoning light appeared, it already showed how serious the situation was. He had no intention of holding anything back!

The Snow Frost Star Wolf soon appeared beside Mo Fan. The moment Wolfie landed, the surrounding undead breath seemed to freeze slightly. His ice blue fur drifted in the wind, and his eyes swept across the undead tide with cold, royal disdain. Even in a place like the Space of Death, his presence was still oppressive, still superior, still like a beast king looking down upon a pile of rotten corpses.

The undead nearest to him actually slowed for a brief moment.

His Emperor bloodline suppression was still there.

His fangs were exposed slightly, but there was no fear in him. Only contempt.

At the same time, Lightning Belle floated out beside Mo Fan, a small body wrapped in dazzling arcs of lightning. She looked tiny compared to the undead tide, but the brightness of her lightning immediately tore through the deathly gloom of the Space of Death. She glanced at Wolfie, then at the undead ahead, and her little face tightened as if she was eager to prove herself.

“Wolfie, stay near Xiaohou,” Mo Fan said immediately.

Zhang Xiaohou looked slightly startled. “Brother Fan, I can still fight...”

“Do as I say,” Mo Fan said in a deep voice.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

Zhang Xiaohou had just completed his breakthrough. Even if his Wind Element had grown stronger, he still needed stability in a battlefield like this. With Wolfie beside him, Commander level threats below Advanced magic would struggle to even get close. As for Lightning Belle, her lightning not only carried destructive force, but also recovery properties. Keeping her near Zhang Xiaohou would let him keep fighting longer.

“Lightning Belle, stay with him too,” Mo Fan added.

Lightning Belle blinked, clearly unwilling to leave Mo Fan’s side, but after seeing the seriousness in his face, she floated quickly over beside Zhang Xiaohou. Arc after arc of lightning coiled around him, making his whole body seem lighter and sharper, and even the fatigue from his breakthrough eased slightly.

Zhang Xiaohou opened his mouth, but in the end, he did not argue.

He understood.

This was not the time.

“They’re coming,” Zhang Xiaohou lowered his voice.

The space was not huge. The undead soon caught the smell of living humans. They let out ghastly starving cries and their stiff movements suddenly turned into sprinting, like starving beasts lunging toward fresh flesh!

The zombies were the greediest, running at the front of the pack. The sturdy ground began to crack under their heavy steps!

Mo Fan took a deep breath. His right fist was already burning with a blazing red flame. The fang shaped flame swayed slightly in the wind.

He stood there waiting for the zombies to enter the range of his Fiery Fist.

The undead tide was huge.

Too huge.

But Mo Fan’s eyes did not show fear.

Only ruthlessness.

Wolfie lowered his body slightly beside Zhang Xiaohou, frost already gathering under his claws. The undead aura all around made him uncomfortable, but that only made his eyes colder. Any undead that dared get too close would be torn apart instantly.

Lightning Belle hovered near Zhang Xiaohou’s shoulder, arcs of lightning dancing happily yet fiercely around her little body. Her lightning occasionally brushed past Zhang Xiaohou’s body, not harming him, but instead easing the strain in his muscles and sharpening the flow of magic inside him. She looked like a child, but the undead closest to her were already trembling slightly under the crackling pressure.

“This is the Space of Death...” Zhang Xiaohou muttered, clenching his fists. But after glancing at Mo Fan, then at Wolfie and Lightning Belle beside him, the hesitation in his eyes quickly vanished.

The living path wasn’t something that appeared on its own.

It had to be carved out.

“The living path isn’t cleared by walking on it, but killing!” Mo Fan said coldly.

“Fiery Fist!!”

The light of the fire flickered. Mo Fan launched the flame on his fist with a blast. Nine fiery dragons flew across the gray land and rammed into the pack of zombies running at the front while wriggling their fiery bodies.

Around sixty zombies were running at the front of the pack, the fastest among the zombies.

The zombies agilely leapt aside when the fiery dragons lunged at them, dodging Mo Fan’s Fiery Fist.

However, the fiery dragons were not just dumbly flying forward. The flames emitted from their bodies were extremely hot. The little sparks alone were enough to set the zombies aflame once they made contact with their bodies!

The strength of the Fiery Fist: Nine Dragons was overwhelming, not to mention its wide coverage. The sixty agile zombies were completely devoured by the flames with no chance of escaping, burned into black ash and blown into the air!

At the same time, Zhang Xiaohou made his move too.

With Wolfie guarding his flank and Lightning Belle amplifying his momentum, Zhang Xiaohou’s wind surged outward far more fiercely than before. The currents of wind gathered around him, sharp, violent, and compressed. They swept forward like invisible blades, tearing into the undead that had slipped past the fire and shredding apart the rotting bodies trying to rush him.

This was no longer the same wind as before.

This was Advanced wind.

This was the wind of someone who had just broken through in the palace tomb.

Wolfie pounced the instant a larger undead tried to force its way through the tide. His claws smashed it into the ground, frost spreading across its body as his fangs ripped through its neck. Even surrounded by undead, his posture was still proud and superior, like a royal beast trampling over lowly corpses.

Lightning Belle let out a small cry and released a burst of lightning into the sky. The arcs scattered downward like living whips, striking several undead at once. Some were blasted apart, while others froze momentarily under the violent electric force, leaving them wide open for Zhang Xiaohou’s wind blades.

Mo Fan stepped forward and drew the next Star Pattern...

The army of Magicians had once cleared a path to the Dark Abyss in the ocean of undead.

This time, it was the five of them, Mo Fan, Zhang Xiaohou, Snow Frost Star wolf, Little flame belle and Lightning Belle, carving a living path through the Space of Death.

The black ash blown into the air slowly dissipated. Mo Fan subconsciously took a deep breath.

The number of undead that had been eliminated by a single cast of Fiery Fist was nowhere near enough compared to the total horde, but that did not mean Mo Fan would stand there waiting for death!

Perfect timing, time to kill at will, he had just stepped into the Advanced level, and unlike before, this was no empty breakthrough. He could already wield Advanced Fire and Lightning magic. He had climbed into a realm where every movement of his carried far more force than before!

Mo Fan charged at the undead at full speed.

The number of undead was too deadly for the people behind him. Mo Fan did not want them getting any closer to Zhang Xiaohou. As such, he had no choice but to step forward and stop the tide of undead himself.

Zhang Xiaohou was shocked when he saw Mo Fan charging into the undead.

Mo Fan’s speed was terrifyingly quick even without the aid of any movement spell. He was faster than someone under the effect of Wind Track, almost like a human demon beast bursting into the horde.

Only now did Zhang Xiaohou truly understand what it meant to be an Advanced Mage.

It was not just more magic.

It was not just a larger Galaxy.

The moment one stepped into that realm, even the body, senses, reactions, and presence all underwent an astonishing change. Mo Fan was no longer relying purely on spells to keep up with demon beasts. His sprinting, jumping, dodging, and explosive bursts of movement were now comparable to lower level demon creatures!

Zhang Xiaohou had only just broken through himself, and seeing Mo Fan move like this made the feeling become even clearer. This was the power of an Advanced Mage. This was the confidence of someone whose body and magic had both entered a new world!

Mo Fan had already sensed this difference earlier. Therefore, he had decided to use these undead as sacrifices to sharpen the edge of his fresh breakthrough!

Flipping his hands simultaneously, two bright flames burst alive on his palms. Mo Fan basically finished the two Fire Bursts in an instant.

In terms of speed and reflexes, Mo Fan was faster than the Servant class undead. He quickly weaved past two poisonous zombies like a sparrow gliding through the woods and slammed the Fire Bursts in his hands onto their bodies...

Leaving the flames behind, Mo Fan had already moved a few meters away. With a thought, the two Fire Bursts on the zombies exploded instantly!

It was too easy to kill two Servant class zombies instantly with the fifth tier Fire Burst. As a matter of fact, if two undead were standing closely together, a single Fire Burst would be enough to send them both to hell.

Oh, wait, they were already there...

The two Fire Bursts exploded behind Mo Fan, staggering the skeletons that were following him. Mo Fan did not bother wasting his time on those skeletons. His gaze was fixed on a strong presence that he had already sensed.

It was a Skeleton General. It was only as tall as a ten year old child, thus it was easy to disregard its presence. Mo Fan would have had a hard time noticing the skeleton before, but he was now an Advanced Mage. His spiritual sense could detect stronger creatures hidden among the undead almost instantly!

“Giant Shadow Spike!” Mo Fan charged straight toward the Skeleton General with black energy circling around his finger.

As Mo Fan shot the black energy forward, it turned into a flickering cold spike, punching into the Skeleton General which had thought it had concealed its presence well.

The Skeleton General was only a small Warrior level creature, its strength nowhere near something like the Hatchet Corpse General. The Giant Shadow Spike completely sealed off its movements as it nailed the creature to the spot. It could not even move its fingers, let alone try to break free!

As soon as Mo Fan had the Skeleton General under control, eight skeletons with white bone sabers appeared on both sides. Their hands had turned into bone sabers to cut apart anything blocking in their path. The sabers were aimed at different parts of Mo Fan’s body. Two swung at his head, three slashed at his chest, and the rest aimed for his limbs...

Mo Fan had been planning to eliminate the little Skeleton General in one go. His eyes flickered coldly when he discovered the guards trying to protect their general. Purple lightning flashed through his pupils!

The energy of lightning!

His arms were wrapped in arcs of lightning as electrical discharges surrounded him with sharp crackling noises.

“Lightning Strike!”

The lightning arcs spread out and quickly filled the area within twenty meters of Mo Fan like furious eels, turning the place into an electric field!

The eight skeletons had already raised their bone sabers, yet their speed was no match for the lightning. The paralyzing effect instantly froze their movements!

This time, however, the purple lightning did not stop there.

A tiny figure suddenly darted out from Mo Fan’s shoulder.

Lightning Belle!

Her little body glowed brilliantly as if she had been born from the very center of a storm. She gave a delighted cry and the paralyzed field instantly turned far more violent. The arcs of lightning connected with her body, then ricocheted outward like living whips. What had originally only been control suddenly became slaughter. The skeletons already trapped in paralysis were struck again and again, their bones blasted black, their bodies exploding apart one after another!

The Lightning Element was already overwhelming, and with Lightning Belle resonating with it, its destructive force rose to another level. The nearby undead shook violently in the electric field, some collapsing before they could even reach Mo Fan!

At the same time, another tiny figure floated out from the rear.

Little Flame Belle.

She circled once around Mo Fan’s shoulder, then rushed forward gleefully. The flames burning on Mo Fan’s body suddenly grew fiercer, richer, almost alive. Each ember that scattered from his spells now carried a shocking heat, as if each spark contained its own life. Little Flame Belle waved her little hands, and several flaming wisps shot into the undead tide like playful sprites. Yet the moment they touched rotten flesh, they exploded into fierce blossoms of fire. Several zombies and skeletons were instantly engulfed, their bodies melting amid high pitched screams!

If Lightning Belle represented violent precision, then Little Flame Belle turned every fire spell Mo Fan used into something more tyrannical, more domineering, more eager to devour everything in sight!

And behind Zhang Xiaohou, a huge silver white figure stepped forward proudly.

Wolfie!

The Snow Frost Star Wolf’s icy blue eyes swept across the battlefield with royal disdain. His body was that of an advancing Warrior level beast, yet the aura spilling from him was not the least bit inferior to many Commander level creatures. The instant he stepped out, the nearby undead trembled instinctively. Some of the weaker undead even hesitated, as if something in their dead instincts was warning them that this beast was not something they should offend!

That was the suppression of his Emperor bloodline.

Wolfie lowered his body slightly, then vanished from where he stood.

His speed was terrifying.

A white silver afterimage flashed through the horde. Frost exploded from beneath his claws. An undead corpse general that had tried to force its way forward was smashed aside in a single swipe. Before it could stand again, Wolfie was already above it, his claws tearing through its body while a burst of icy breath froze the upper half of the corpse into brittle crystal. With another bite, the entire thing shattered apart!

Another Warrior level skeleton tried to ambush Zhang Xiaohou from the flank, but Wolfie’s tail swept out like an icy steel whip and smashed its spine in half. Frost spread rapidly through the broken bones, freezing them from within until they burst apart with a crackling sound.

Zhang Xiaohou could only stare.

Only now did he realize that Brother Fan’s contracted beasts were this terrifying.

Lightning Belle was still a Warrior level spirit, yet the destructive force she displayed in conjunction with Mo Fan’s lightning was already comparable to the attacks of a Commander level creature.

Little Flame Belle was the same. The moment she fused with Mo Fan’s flames, his Fire magic became so savage that ordinary Warrior level undead simply could not withstand it.

And Wolfie...

Wolfie was even more outrageous.

His body was that of an advancing Warrior level beast, yet whether it was his suppression, speed, physical power, or that terrifying ice killing power, he was already fighting on the level of Commander beasts!

Zhang Xiaohou finally understood why Mo Fan was able to charge into so many impossible situations.

Brother Fan was not only monstrous himself.

Even the companions around him were monsters among monsters!

The wind started blowing. It grew from a breeze to a green slashing tornado right behind Mo Fan!

This time, however, the one controlling that wind was no longer the same Zhang Xiaohou as before.

After stepping into the Advanced level, his understanding of the Wind Element had completely changed. The wind no longer felt like a loose current he had to guide carefully. It now felt like an extension of his own body, like invisible limbs spreading outward through the battlefield!

The wind dragged the skeletons and the undead following behind Mo Fan into the air and tore them into pieces. Blood and shattered bones scattered across the place.

Mo Fan knew it was Zhang Xiaohou’s attack without even needing to turn his head. The enemies behind him were eliminated, allowing him to focus completely on killing the impaired Skeleton General!

The Warrior level creatures posed the biggest threat, after all. They would hide among the other undead and ambush them. Those without outstanding defenses would be killed by a single blow...

“Die!” Mo Fan walked up to the Skeleton General and threw a fist at its shiny, smooth skull.

The fist burst into flames as he launched it. Little Flame Belle immediately let out a cheerful cry and the fire on that fist swelled wildly. When it landed on the Skeleton General’s face, flames like molten lava burst forward. The impaired Skeleton General was knocked fifty meters away...

Its path had other skeletons along it too. They were also devoured by the roaring flames of the Fiery Fist!

It was obvious that the tiny Skeleton General was not very strong at all. The explosion produced by the Fiery Fist: Exploding Heaven right in its face was enough to kill it outright...

However, at the place where the Skeleton General’s bones landed in pieces, a two faced phantom ten meters tall uttered an enraged roar!

Ten meters, the height of a three story building. Its presence and aura were much stronger than the Skeleton General. Even their faces hurt from the wind produced by the roar!

At the same time, far away in the clock tower, the people staring into the copper mirror were completely stunned.

They had originally only been watching Mo Fan and Zhang Xiaohou struggle in the Space of Death, yet now their expressions had all frozen.

“What... what are those?” someone blurted out first.

No one answered immediately.

Because none of them knew.

They had never seen Mo Fan use contracted beasts like this before.

A wolf, two elemental spirits...

And not one of them was ordinary!

The Snow Frost Star Wolf was only a Warrior level demon, yet the pressure it released and the way it slaughtered through the undead tide were clearly comparable to a Commander level beast!

The little Lightning Belle and Little Flame Belle were the same. Their auras were still within the Warrior level range, but the effects they produced in conjunction with Mo Fan’s magic were so terrifying that even the old experts in the tower felt a chill in their hearts!

“How can Warrior class creatures be this strong?” Lu Xu said in disbelief.

“That wolf...” another expert muttered. “That spirit pressure... that bloodline suppression... it’s not normal at all!”

“And those two elemental spirits... each of them is comparable to Commander level beasts in actual combat power!”

The entire clock tower erupted into shocked voices.

They had thought Mo Fan’s greatest surprise was his own cultivation.

They were wrong.

His contracted beasts were just as outrageous as he was!
