Mo Fan at his best – Versatile Mage

Chapter 146: Leveling up even more spells

A continuous mass of black clouds bordered the land ruled by the undead in the endless distance. At the border, a gigantic shadowy figure was constantly approaching, just like the scene Mo Fan had witnessed before. Around it, water-like undead were surging, as if a new king had risen to command the hungry, wandering, homeless populace to overthrow the tyrannical monarchy and move into the warm city walls.

The longer the Dark Abyss appeared, the more immense the resentment and death aura it generated. It was so vast that some decaying corpses, skeletons, and evil spirits that would have taken years to mature prematurely gained the qualification for advancement. Those undead ministers who needed to slumber for another ten or hundred years also lifted their coffin lids, appearing in this increasingly cold world.

Undead creatures place more emphasis on hierarchy; those of higher ranks can freely summon lower-ranked undead. Lower-ranked undead themselves lack minds and are idle. If a voice guides them to do something, they will be more than willing to comply. There is no fear, no concern for death, only an endless greed and desire for living beings!

The more immense the resentment, the more undead gathered. The more undead, the more the death aura surged, so much so that even standing on the city walls dozens of kilometers away, one could already smell the putrid scent of corpses washing over like a sea breeze.

The roars, like thunder, continuously rumbled in the distance. Initially, they only caused the city walls to shake uneasily a few times, but as time passed, the roars became deafening, almost piercing eardrums.

In the very center of the long North City Wall stood a majestic city tower, where over two hundred Intermediate Mages and above had gathered.

With a command, led by the four Super-Order Mages—Zhu Meng, Lu Xu, Fei Jiao, and Du Xiao—the mages leaped out of this perfect defense line against the undead, charging towards the terrifying black distance.

As they charged out, they immediately felt the surging death aura. Everything within sight was engulfed by a black tide. The tide was entirely composed of black decaying corpses, as if the resentment generated by the Dark Abyss provided them with excellent nourishment. Every decaying corpse seemed to be clad in black armor, transforming into a well-trained army.

Looking at the surging undead horde, Mo Fan was completely focused, or rather, full of fighting spirit!

This was his first time stepping onto a 'battlefield.'

Everyone said that personal bravery on the battlefield was ultimately nothing more than recklessness.

But Mo Fan didn't think so at all.

“Little Flame Belle, protect your dad,” Mo Fan said to the Little Flame Belle on his shoulder.

“Ling~~~”

The Little Flame Belle excitedly responded, then formed a huge ring of fire around Mo Fan.

With the Little Flame Belle's protection, Mo Fan said to the Demon Man, “I’ll clear the path ahead.”

As he finished speaking, without waiting for the Demon Man's reaction, Mo Fan directly used Shadow Escape to leave.

Watching Mo Fan directly leave the team, the Demon Man’s mouth twitched: This kid...

“Boom!!!”

Thanks to the Little Flame Belle, after Mo Fan charged into the decaying corpse horde, he directly used the Little Flame Belle’s Tribulation Flame to incinerate these decaying corpses on the spot.

“E-ao~~~~!!!”

“E-wu~~~~~~~!!!!”

If demon creatures encountered a reckless man like Mo Fan charging at them, they might be afraid, they might be fearful.

But with the undead, fear is absolutely impossible!

“Flame Domain!”

“Boom!!”

Flames ignited, their domain covering the surroundings. Even the surging tide of corpses was constantly evaporating, constantly turning into ashes!!

“Fierce Fist!”

“Bang!”

The flames covering his body instantly gathered on Mo Fan's wrist. He clenched his fist and smashed it directly onto the ground.

A wave of fire instantly spread through the ground!

At this moment, the sea of decaying corpses surged over once more. Even though Mo Fan’s domain fire was incredibly hot, in the face of such numbers, it still seemed somewhat insignificant.

“Nine Palaces!”

However, this spark of fire began to boil at the moment he uttered his final magical sound!

“Boom boom boom!!!”

“Boom boom boom!!!”

“Boom boom boom!!!”

Over hundreds of meters, immense pillars of fire shot into the sky as if flipping the ground over!

“Boom!!!”

At this moment, even the pouring rain completely turned into steam!

And with this wave of surging fire bombardment, Mo Fan directly turned all decaying corpses within a hundred meters of him into ashes.

“Charge!!!”

The main force behind them was astonished upon seeing this scene!

This kid, he’s simply not human!

It was also a third-level Intermediate magic, but its power and effect were clearly not on the same level.

His single strike was completely comparable to the combined bombardment of an entire team!

Even their hastily assembled team, when casting Intermediate magic, might not achieve such an effect...

“Swish!”

After destroying a wave, Mo Fan did not remain on the ground, but instead unfurled his Magic Tool wings and ascended into the sky.

After a series of charges, his gaze fixed on the front. Amidst the dense black decaying corpse legion, he finally saw a large group of ghost-like creatures wearing white ghostly robes!

The white fabric appeared pale, their bodies semi-ethereal as if one could pass through them. They were not walking, but floating.

And those were the troubles they needed to deal with.

They were also an obstacle for the Super-Order Mages before dealing with the Ghost Tyrant.

“Charge! It’s right ahead! Charge through first, and our mission will be complete!” the Demon Man shouted.

However, due to his somewhat effeminate nature, his shout really lacked any sense of increased momentum.

Although the Demon Man's momentum was insufficient, the team continued to advance at full speed. Fire Element Mages became the main force of the entire team. Large-scale, powerful Fierce Fists were blasted towards the black ones, inevitably resulting in flesh and blood flying everywhere, and patches of flames smashing out one pit after another on the scorched earth.

Within the black tide of decaying corpses, human mage teams could be seen appearing from different directions. The constantly flashing magical halos were the most distinct banners, telling the mage teams scattered in different areas that they were converging towards their destination!

In the Intermediate Level domain, Fire Element Mages ultimately held a relatively large proportion. The number of people who awakened the Fire Element was not as rare as the Lightning Element, and it was also the most powerful and wide-ranging magic in such large-scale battles. Thus, as the various armies began to converge, one could see patches of bright red fire carpets, as if paving a bright path for everyone.

Undead fear light the most, followed by fire. Servant-level undead would mindlessly walk into places where large fires burned, resulting in them being incinerated.

As the flames continued to burn, they could inadvertently incinerate a servant-level undead into a charred carbonized corpse, no longer posing a threat to humans.

The vibrant flames were the only thing in this black decaying corpse legion that made the human legions feel a sense of safety. Everyone followed the light of magic, followed the righteous fire stirred up by countless Intermediate Mages, so as not to lose their way on the path of death!

However, even with Mo Fan's destructive path-clearing, they were only barely able to maintain the same advance speed as other teams. Indeed, regular and irregular are two different concepts.

A loud crash echoed in the chamber. It turned out that the fireball, now five meters across, that the little Flame Belle had turned into had just slammed into the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General. The creature had no place to escape to after it was forced into a corner in the chamber.

The fireball exploded. It felt like a Fire Burst: Rupture, with its power multiplied by around ten times. Half of the spacious chamber was devoured by the erupting flames, while the place felt like it was about to collapse!

The chamber quaked vigorously. Dust and grit continued to fall from above as cracks began to cross the sturdy walls. Meanwhile, the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was entirely engulfed in flames within a pile of burning debris.

The Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was just too unlucky. Normally, with its speed, it was hard to land any destructive spell on it, yet the area of little Flame Belle’s fireball was just too terrifying. With the limited space in the chamber, it was only a matter of time until the fireball struck it!

Little Flame Belle was overjoyed. She zipped past the sea of flames she had just created and flew over to where the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was laying.

The little creature was rather naive. She was simply going to check if her target was dead. If not, she would not mind using a stronger Calamity Fire to send the creature into the afterlife.

To her surprise, the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was so cunning that it was actually faking its death. When the little Flame Belle went up to it, the winding sheets around its arm immediately took the shape of a drill, stabbing at little Flame Belle viciously!

The attack totally caught little Flame Belle off guard. There was no way she could possibly dodge it, yet the cunning Mo Fan would never allow such a thing to happen. His fist erupted in flames that streaked through the air and flew right at the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General that had just sprung up from the ground.

The Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was knocked flying while it was still in midair. Its body slammed into the walls of the chamber. The impact ended up producing a deep hole, where the Corpse General was quickly burned to ashes under the combination of different flames.

The Cloth-wrapped Corpse General’s defense was not as outstanding as other kinds of Corpse Generals. Mo Fan’s punch was strong enough to blast it to death.

As Mo Fan took a few steps forward, a wisp of dark green fragmented soul drifted toward the Little Loach Pendant, implying that the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General was indeed dead.

It was a Warrior-level Soul Remnant! As a matter of fact, there were quite a number of Warrior-level Soul Remnants floating on the Nether River in the Little Loach Pendant. When the Cloth-wrapped Corpse General’s Soul Remnant joined the rest of the Soul Remnants, they immediately gathered together and combined into a dark-blue amber in the shape of a water droplet!

Soul Essence!

The Little Loach Pendant had refined a Soul Essence!

Most importantly, it was refined with close to a hundred Warrior-level Soul Remnants, hence the product was a Warrior-level Soul Essence, bringing Mo Fan great joy!

It turned out that not only was the Little Loach able to refine Servant-class Soul Remnants, it could also refine Warrior-level Soul Remnants into Soul Essences!

The average price of a Warrior-level Soul Essence was around twenty million RMB. Mo Fan’s savings were almost empty from feeding his little Flame Belle. Despite that, he was still unwilling to sell the Pseudomorphing Demon Beast’s Seed. He even had to rely on Liu Ru to pay the twenty million to Shorty. Now that he finally had the chance to earn twenty million, how fascinating... oh, wait a second!

“Damn it, I almost forgot. I can’t take the Soul Essences that Little Loach has refined out from the pendant. I can only use them to strengthen my Stars,” he cursed instantly.

His joy was all in vain. He could not even trade the Soul Essences for money!

“Speaking of which, can I even strengthen the Stars with a Warrior-level Soul Essence...” the question suddenly crossed Mo Fan’s mind.

Since he had no way of selling the Soul Essence, he simply decided to spend it on an experiment. He immediately used the freshly refined Soul Essence to strengthen the thirty-fourth Star of his Nebula.

The naughty Star was flying around wildly in the blazing red Nebula. Mo Fan’s control over the Stars was like a fisher handling a tank of fish. He was so experienced that he could instantly grab any fish in the tank that he wished.

“Come, here’s some nutrients for you to grow stronger!”

Mo Fan fed the Warrior-level Soul Essence to the Star he had not yet strengthened. The Star rapidly absorbed the energy of the Soul Essence, becoming incredibly bright, and on top of that, it also had an extra flickering glow around it!

Mo Fan initially thought the Warrior-level Soul Essence would be consumed in the process, yet the Soul Essence was still there after its energy was absorbed by the Star. The only difference was its color was slightly dimmer.

“So desu ne, a Warrior-level Soul Essence contains more energy, which is enough to strengthen more than one Star...”

Mo Fan felt a great surge of joy. There were only fifteen Stars left to be strengthened. He would be able to strengthen a few more Stars with the Warrior-level Soul Essence!

Mo Fan immediately proceeded to strengthen the thirty-fifth Star with the Warrior-level Soul Essence. The process finished rather smoothly. Not long after, the thirty-fifth Star was shining brightly, like its thirty-four other siblings!

Moving forward, the thirty-sixth Star was successfully strengthened, too!

More onward, the thirty-seventh Star had no problem leveling up too. The energy that a Warrior-level Soul Essence contained was superb indeed!

Here came the thirty-eighth Star. The Soul Essence was almost entirely transparent. As Mo Fan finished strengthening the thirty-eighth Star, the Warrior-level Soul Essence finally dissipated...

Five Stars!

A Warrior-level Soul Essence was just enough to strengthen five Stars!

However, different Warrior-level Soul Essences had different levels of quality too, leading to each Soul Essence containing a different amount of energy. Those with a lower quality were only enough to strengthen four Stars, while those that were superior would be able to strengthen six Stars. Clearly, the Soul Essences refined by the Little Loach were considered average!

The count had now reached thirty-eight, only eleven more left to strengthening all forty-nine Stars, which would significantly improve Mo Fan’s magic. It was extremely important to him!

The power of a fifth-tier Fiery Fist was truly outstanding. Otherwise, Dongfang Lie would not have been able to occupy the first rank for so long. The truth was, Mo Fan’s Fiery Fist was only slightly stronger than a Advanced level 1 spell when he was possessed by the Flame Belle. Mo Fan simply took Dongfang Lie by surprise, since Dongfang Lie never thought his spell would be overwhelmed by Mo Fan’s.

Therefore, if Mo Fan was also able to cast the fifth-tier Fiery Fist, allowing him to fire 15 fiery dragons from his fist, and together with the extra power from being possessed by the Flame Belle, his Fiery Fist’s power would be close to an Advanced Spell 3 or maybe ever so close to Level 3. In addition, Mo Fan’s Fire Seed was also able to multiply the strength of his Fire Spells!

Think about that, when his Intermediate Spell was almost as destructive as an Advanced level 2 or 3 Spell , wouldn’t most of his enemies be trembling in fear when facing him?

He had to strengthen the remaining eleven Stars as soon as possible! He was hoping that he would earn more benefits from the war against the undead, allowing him to learn a new formidable spill and dominate the Advanced Level!
