Chapter 125: The Anchor Is Fake
Zero looked at the sky for a while before he suddenly let out a sigh and muttered, "That’s not good."
Rather than being worried about Radiance, it had more to do with the fact that he had figured something out after her attack on the creature.
As expected, the explosion that enveloped her suddenly cleared, revealing Radiance wrapped in a golden barrier.
Instead, she had a frown on her face as she looked at the monster below her. "So, you’re not the anchor, are you?"
According to the mercenary’s words, if the anchor died, then everyone would be forced out of this dream.
Yet, even though her initial attack had managed to disintegrate it, the creature had been reconstructed.
ROARR!!!!
The creature let out a roar in response to her question, causing her frown to get even darker.
It opened its mouth, charging up another beam, but Radiance wasn’t about to let it launch the attack again.
She lifted her hands towards it again, but this time, instead of a blast, a transparent dome appeared around the creature.
"Let’s end this, shall we?" With a snap, a beam of light was launched from one end of the dome towards the creature.
The beam wrapped around the creature’s mouth before it had the chance to launch its attack.
BOOM!
Its attack exploded within its mouth, causing its head to explode in the process. But Radiance wasn’t done yet.
The dome then released multiple other beams of light, straight towards the creature.
Zero, meanwhile, looked at her use of her factor with literal stars in his eyes as he said, "You’re so cool, Radiance!"
He looked like some kind of fanboy at an idol’s show; he even created a pair of golden glow sticks to match.
"..." Radiance looked at the mercenary with a blank expression as she wondered where he got the glow sticks that he was currently waving around.
She then turned back towards the dome she had created. Each time she killed the creature, it would simply be reconstructed.
Fortunately, the dome of light kept it at bay; with the beams of light being launched around, the creature was trapped in a perpetual state of being destroyed and reconstructed.
Radiance floated down to Zero, and a glare from her caused him to quickly put away the glow sticks.
"You were so cool," the hitman said with a smile on his face, "you even made a Beta-Ranked threat look weak."
Radiance didn’t respond to that; instead, she turned back to the dome she had created around the creature.
"That doesn’t seem to be the anchor," she said, the frown still on her face.
"Seems not," Zero nodded before placing a hand on his chin and looking around.
The anchor was supposed to be the one with the most Pragma within this dream, but that hadn’t proved to be the case.
Which meant that the actual anchor was hiding.
"Need a hand?" A voice suddenly interrupted his thoughts, and the two turned towards it.
"Liam..." Radiance muttered before stuttering, "I-I mean, Overdrive?"
"Hey," Overdrive responded with a smile on his face.
This was a dream that affected the entire Sterling City; Overdrive or Liam being absent from it would draw a bit of suspicion.
"You’re the new hero," Zero said, looking at the clone. "Cool costume."
"And you must be Zero," Overdrive responded. "I want to thank you again."
"You two know each other?" Radiance asked with confusion as she looked between them.
"Not really," the hitman answered, "but he hired me to save his sister once."
"I see." She nodded in understanding. Of course she knew that Liam’s sister was kidnapped a year ago, but to think that the hitman who rescued her was Zero.
Perhaps the hitman wasn’t so bad.
"So," Overdrive interrupted her thoughts as he looked at the dome she had created around the creature, "what’s the current situation?"
"We’re searching for an anchor," Zero explained, "killing it should get us out of this place."
"I see," Overdrive nodded before turning towards a certain direction and pointing there, "that wouldn’t happen to be the anchor... right?"
The two, or rather, Radiance followed his gaze and realized he was pointing at the sky, towards a small dot floating there.
Liam had noticed that dot only after Radiance defeated the creature they thought was the anchor.
At first, he thought nothing of it, but after Overdrive got a good look, he realized who that was.
The sleepy man.
"Most likely," Zero answered, though even he was still a bit doubtful; after all, he could barely feel any Pragma from the figure.
Then again, what would creating a version of himself within the dream realm achieve?
"But I think you still have your hands full, so you should probably leave this to Overdrive and me," The hitman turned back to Radiance and said.
She frowned before letting out a sigh and nodding. Given that the creature within her light barrier was still regenerating, which meant that she had to keep it at bay.
Releasing it would just put the people in danger, and even though she had realized that this was a dream, she still couldn’t bring herself to put anyone in danger.
"How are we going to get there?" Overdrive asked with a frown, "You don’t seem like someone who can fly; neither can I."
"Leave that to me," Zero said with a grin before walking to the edge of the building, ready to reveal something else he had learnt within the year.
To Radiance’s shock, the hitman suddenly jumped off and, from the look of things, it seemed as if he was going to plummet to his death.
But the next second, a pair of enormous wings unfolded behind him, and just before he could become an artwork on the tar, the wings flapped, pulling him upwards.
The hitman came to a stop at the edge of the building, and without asking, he said, "Pretty cool, right?"
Turns out, Genesis allowed him to also create and alter his own body parts, which meant that he could even replace parts chopped off...well, as long as it wasn’t his head.
This was all thanks to the knowledge gained when he was studying to create clones.
Of course, he could create a jetpack or something else to fly with, but those were not cool enough to show off with.
"Let’s go?" He extended a hand to Overdrive.
"Be careful," Radiance said as she looked at him, a bit worried.
"I will," Overdrive answered with a smile before walking to the hitman. "Don’t you have any other way of flying with me?"
"How about I wear a saddle?" Zero said, sarcasm evident in his voice as he picked up clone.
It would be quite embarrassing if someone found out that he was arguing with himself, fortunately, no one will.
