The rules were done. Both sides stepped onto the court.

Ronin’s eight were himself and seven clones that wore his face. Their aura signatures were identical. Picking the original out of the line was a waste of time. Razor’s eight were himself and seven numbered Nen beasts.

They sent seven players each into the inner court. Before the whistle, an eighth beast formed at Razor’s side. The mark on its chest was 0.

Referee.

Ronin did not object. He already knew the shape of the game Razor wanted to play.

The whistle cut. The referee tossed the ball high.

None of Razor’s players jumped. A clone took it out of the air like the catch was an errand.

Same opening Razor had used on Gon.

The clone did not reach for ninjutsu. Enhancement dumped into the arm, then onto the ball as Shu.

For this rule set, Emission and Enhancement were the two categories that mattered. Emission let aura leave the body and stay on the ball without rotting. Enhancement put more force, more speed, and more toughness into the throw itself. Wrap a ball in Emission and the coating held. Wrap it in Enhancement and the hit hit harder. The match was always going to be even on paper.

Ronin had no interest in testing the paper.

The first throw was full output.

Razor’s plan was obvious. Take a few hits, send pieces of his line into the outer court, and attack from two angles.

The clone’s mechanics were clean. The sound the ball made leaving the hand was not.

Razor’s squint opened.

The beast marked 1 did not get knocked down. The ball went through it.

“That’s a lot of force.”

He had seen this once. Years ago Ging had gotten serious at the end of a game and erased beasts in a single exchange. That had been Ging. This was a split-off copy.

He would not treat the next throw like a warm-up.

Ronin was already smiling.

“Quick question. Can you rebuild a player?”

The throw had been exactly what he wanted.

On the sideline, Neon, Abachi, and Shizuku barely reacted. They had already updated their scale for him. Neon’s private version of that scale put him at the top of the living list. Ronin had shaken his head when she said it. The strongest Nen user in the present was still Isaac Netero. Public record. Uncontested.

The look in his eyes did not match the humility.

The pirates had a simpler map. Razor was the ceiling. In their pickup games, forcing one of the numbered beasts to go all-out was a full-night project. Watching a clone punch a hole through Number 1 rewrote the ceiling in real time.

Razor had a different thought.

What if the power could move? What if any copy could fire at original output?

“No,” he said.

Reforming the beasts might have helped him. He would not take the cheap version of his own rule.

Number 1 was out. Serve stayed with Ronin’s side. Razor still had seven.

The same clone loaded Shu again and threw at 2.

Number 2 moved like it was going to dodge.

The ball was faster than the fake. It took the beast in the stomach and then dropped, almost gentle, onto the floor.

Ronin looked at the impact site. Extra aura had been packed into that exact patch of skin.

Dodge was the story. Ko was the work. Harden one small surface and let a dodgeball—small contact area, high speed—spend itself there. Clean defense.

He had expected 3 or 5 to fuse with 2 and push it up toward 7’s weight class. The numbers on Razor’s beasts were not decoration. They were rank. Fusion was on the table whenever Razor wanted it.

He was holding it. Saving the ugly surprise.

Number 2 walked itself to the outer court. The ball came back to the clone. 2 was already behind Ronin’s line, stacking a crossfire with Razor.

The next throw did not use Enhancement alone.

Taijutsu: Monstrous Strength.

Tsunade’s trick. Enough raw output to wrinkle stone. Ronin had stacked it with other punches before—Cherry Blossom Impact through a Super Destruction Punch. This time it went into the throw.

Razor felt the change before the ball left the hand.

Same form. Same velocity.

The boom arrived when the ball hit both of his palms.

He had stepped in and caught it himself.
