Naruto: The Nine-Tails' Legacy

Chapter 27: Testing Naruto’s Strength

"Hey, Minato."

Kurama, who had been observing the outside world the whole time, suddenly spoke.

"Do you still remember Might Guy?"

"Guy? Kakashi's friend?" Minato raised his head in confusion from the mountain of lesson plans he was preparing. "What about him?"

"…Mm, nothing."

Kurama flicked his tail.

Everything he knew about Might Guy came from Naruto's memories. He had heard that this man once forced the nearly invincible Madara Uchiha—after becoming the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki—into a desperate situation.

Unfortunately, Kurama had never witnessed it personally.

By the time he actually saw Guy himself, the man had already become crippled, and none of that power capable of rivaling the Sage of Six Paths remained.

"Maybe… this is a very good opportunity."

Kurama's attention sharpened.

There were not many shinobi in this world capable of reaching the combat level necessary to fight the Ōtsutsuki.

"So? Isn't this place much better than that old training ground from before?"

Might Guy laughed loudly and gestured proudly behind him.

"This training ground was assigned to me after I became a jōnin! Even compared to your Hyuga Clan training grounds, it's no worse, right?"

"Though after missions, I still instinctively return to the old place to train. Unfortunately, I got a little too excited this time. Plus, nobody's maintained that area for years, so it's unusable now."

Naruto looked around excitedly.

Guy's training ground was several times larger than the previous public one.

Not only were the targets and mechanisms extremely diverse, but even the forest area overhead had clearly been specially modified. The strange routes and paths were perfect for practicing Body Flicker techniques.

"It's way more than just 'not worse,'" Hyūga Kōsa muttered as he withdrew his gaze with a sigh. "This is a jōnin-exclusive training ground. There's probably nothing better in the entire village."

"But sorry about this, Guy," another Hyūga clansman said apologetically. "Even though your intentions are good, the Hyūga clan's secret techniques can't be shown publicly. We can't train here."

"Hm? You know me?"

Guy looked at him in confusion after hearing the familiar tone.

"Hey… your face looks really familiar…"

"What, you don't even recognize your old classmate anymore?"

"Old classmate… Ah, you're Hyūga… Hyūga…"

Guy narrowed his eyes and examined him carefully, internally panicking.

Truthfully, he had recognized the man immediately earlier—but completely forgot his name, so he pretended not to know him.

"Hyūga Ichita," the man introduced helplessly, already accustomed to Guy's terrible memory. "You're still the same as before. Besides Kakashi Hatake, you don't remember anyone's name."

"Ahahaha! Ichita!"

"How could I forget your name?!"

"You've just become so handsome after all these years that I didn't recognize you!"

Guy burst into exaggerated laughter to hide his embarrassment before slapping Ichita on the shoulder.

"Since it's been so long since we met, how about we relive our youth? Let's go leapfrog around the village fifty times together!"

"I'll pass."

Ichita waved his hand frantically.

"Like I said before, we're only here to protect the young lady. We're not participating in anything else."

He pointed toward Kōsa beside him.

"The two of us are still chunin-level shinobi, after all. This kind of training is…"

"You can't say that, old classmate."

The moment Guy heard the latter half of the sentence, his expression suddenly became serious.

The hand on Ichita's shoulder tightened into a crushing grip, causing the latter to wince in pain.

"The war only ended recently, and you're already relaxing?"

"If I were an enemy right now…"

Ichita and Kōsa were both startled.

At the exact moment Guy finished speaking, he appeared beside Hinata Hyuga without warning.

His fist slammed downward toward her tiny head.

The movement was so fast it genuinely looked impossible to stop.

And Hinata herself hadn't realized anything at all.

"Stop!"

The two Hyūga guards rushed forward in panic.

But the difference between them and Might Guy was simply too great.

They couldn't even approach him in time—

"The Hyūga clan is one of Konoha's great clans, yet its members have become this careless?"

"I only pretended to attack, and they still couldn't react?"

"Looks like they need a proper wake-up call."

Guy was not as simple-minded as he appeared.

Although naturally cheerful, he was extremely observant inside.

The Hyūga and Uchiha clans were both major Konoha clans. As a jōnin, Guy naturally knew about the current tensions surrounding the Uchiha Clan.

He did not want the Hyūga to end up the same way.

Especially after hearing Ichita casually mention that, despite being chunin-level shinobi, they no longer participated in village missions and only served as clan guards.

That mentality was dangerous.

As for this attack—

Guy's taijutsu mastery had already reached an astonishing level.

Even if his fist actually landed, he could still perfectly control the force to ensure Hinata remained completely unharmed.

But before he could stop—

Hinata's figure vanished from beneath his punch.

"Huh?"

Guy froze.

So did Ichita and Kōsa.

Then an eerie voice sounded nearby.

"Thick-eyebrowed uncle… what are you trying to do?"

Naruto stood three meters away while holding Hinata in his arms.

His eyes carried a dangerous glare as he stared at Guy.

Ah. This became a misunderstanding.

Guy instantly understood the situation.

He straightened up, intending to apologize and explain, but another thought suddenly emerged in his mind—

How exactly did he just do that?

"Amazing… was that the Body Flicker Technique?"

"Even we didn't notice anything!"

The two Hyūga guards were equally stunned.

Then they immediately moved between Guy and the children defensively.

Earlier they had failed in their duty.

This time, they absolutely had to stay alert.

"N-Naruto-kun…?"

Only now did Hinata realize she was being princess-carried in Naruto's arms.

Her tiny face turned bright red again, completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere surrounding them.

"Hinata, go stand beside those two white-eyed uncles first."

Naruto's tone remained unusually serious for his age as he continued staring at Guy.

"He's dangerous."

Mm… troublesome.

Guy could tell Naruto's hostility was becoming very obvious now.

But in the end, he still chose not to explain.

"Kōsa, take Lady Hinata away first," Ichita suddenly ordered.

"I don't know what's wrong with Guy, but if the young lady gets hurt, we'll be in serious trouble."

"R-Right."

Kōsa glanced nervously between the confused Hinata and the silent Guy.

Although he had no idea how things suddenly escalated this far, he still swallowed hard and prepared to leave with Hinata.

Then—

Whoosh!

The green figure appeared beside him again with lightning speed.

Another punch shot directly toward little Hinata.

But this time—

Guy's eyes never once looked at anyone from the Hyūga clan.

His gaze remained fixed solely on Naruto.

However—

The punch missed again.

"Run!"

Naruto shouted toward the three Hyūga behind him while cold sweat dripped down their backs.

"He's serious!"

What just happened?

Hyūga Ichita stared blankly at the place where he and Hinata had just been standing.

Now they had already been moved far away.

Meanwhile, Hyūga Kōsa felt his heart shake violently.

At last, he finally understood what had happened back at the Hyūga compound wall that day.

"Hmph. Serious?"

Kurama couldn't help sounding speechless after hearing Naruto's conclusion.

"Hey, Minato."

"Looks like you need to teach Naruto how to judge people's intentions."

"This is such an obvious test, yet he's practically exposing all his trump cards to the guy."

"The other side doesn't even have killing intent—hell, not even hostility."

"…Well, Naruto's only five years old," Minato replied helplessly while also observing through Kurama's chakra connection.

Still, there was undeniable pride hidden in his voice.

"But this really does show how high Konoha's jōnin standards have become."

"With a simple test like this, Guy's probably already figured out Naruto's Flying Thunder God."

At this moment, Guy stared at Naruto while an astonishing aura radiated from his body.

The sheer pressure made everyone swallow nervously as cold sweat formed on their backs.

"Incredible…"

Guy muttered softly.

Then suddenly his eyes exploded with excitement.

He pointed a thumbs-up directly at Naruto and shouted loudly:

"I watched your Body Flicker twice and still couldn't figure it out!"

"How did you train it?!"

"Teach me!"

"…Huh?"

Naruto, Kurama, and Minato all froze simultaneously.

"Is he an idiot?" Kurama mercilessly complained.
