Chapter 412 - 410: The Situation at the Zombie Hospital, a Knock on the Door
Cole Kensington briefly explained what he saw. He had watched Paul take the female zombie into the hospital and hand her over to someone in a white lab coat. The person in the coat injected her temple with two shots of an orange-red liquid, and the female zombie stopped screaming, her body going limp as she collapsed.
Paul warned them that she belonged to Mrs. Sheldon and told them not to mess with her.
After that, he ignored the female zombie and went straight to the second floor of the hospital.
There were a lot of people in white lab coats inside, and some in blue outfits, but they were all covered from head to toe. They were all busy, and practically no one spoke.
The ones being dragged into the hospital were mostly Evolved Zombies who had suddenly lost their minds or had problems like festering skin.
And basically none of them went in on their own for their own problems.
Someone had to be there to pay the bill, or they would likely end up as experimental subjects in the hospital.
The hospital also sprayed some kind of chemical from time to time, which was very dangerous for Cole Kensington. Several times, he was almost hit by the spray and revealed.
The higher the floor in the hospital, the more frequently they sprayed it.
He only followed Paul to the third floor before following him out of the hospital again.
Then, he tracked them from Mrs. Sheldon’s storeroom to this place.
Hearing what Cole Kensington said, the other four naturally became more vigilant.
Faye Yardley said suddenly, "The air freshener."
"Regular disinfection would be one thing, but if the frequency is what Kingston described, that’s not good." Zachary Pierce then asked, "Why did you suddenly bring up air freshener?"
"The air freshener Mrs. Sheldon sprays at her house. It hurts if it gets on your skin. It’s probably the same as the disinfectant in the hospital."
"Wasn’t the air freshener to get rid of our scent?" Caleb Colby had also spent a good amount of time in that house; he had basically been exploring separately from Faye Yardley.
Finn Ford said he had also seen people in other houses spraying it. He hadn’t gotten close, but the smell wasn’t pleasant.
Zachary Pierce, who seemed to have been somewhere different from the others, pointed outside. "The sounds seem to have gotten quieter."
"The moonlight has faded too." Faye Yardley glanced down at her watch. "It’s only been a little over half an hour."
Zachary Pierce said, "We’ll take turns resting. I’ll take the first watch. You all get some sleep."
It was actually only 8:47 PM.
Without a word, Faye Yardley found an empty spot, lay down, and even pulled a blanket from her backpack, wrapping herself up tightly.
Cole Kensington curled up against the wall next to her, closing his eyes to rest.
The night passed peacefully enough.
No one had to wake Faye Yardley for her watch; by the time she woke up, the sky was already bright.
However, the weather in the Dungeon today wasn’t great. A light drizzle had started to fall.
The streets outside were as clean as they had been during the day yesterday, and there weren’t many Evolved Zombies strolling in the rain.
It seemed neither humans nor zombies liked to go out in the rain.
Watching the rain outside, Faye Yardley stretched. "If no one comes here, we could hide out for two days and then just go back."
Cole Kensington, however, said, "Big Sis, I’ll head back to Mrs. Sheldon’s place across the way. If Paul leaves for the hospital, I can follow him and see what’s going on."
"Be careful."
"Okay."
Cole Kensington was about to leave when Faye Yardley called out to him, "Wait. Is that person named Amy at Mrs. Sheldon’s place still alive?"
"I snapped her neck." Cole Kensington was confused. Caleb Colby, however, seemed to understand. ’It was so wrong of me not to mention this yesterday,’ he thought.
So, he immediately explained everything to the others, including how Faye Yardley had killed a creature that was mimicking him.
Zachary Pierce said, "Take those two bodies out."
With two thuds, two corpses appeared: a bald man and a man who looked like Caleb Colby, but with his head detached.
For some reason, Caleb Colby felt a chill on his own neck.
Faye Yardley thought for a moment, then put both bodies into her storage ring and handed the ring to Cole Kensington. "You take these to the hospital. Throw them out and see how they react."
No one objected. Cole Kensington took the ring and left.
The sound of heavy footsteps, THUMP THUMP THUMP, echoed, and the four of them instantly shot to their feet, warily finding cover to hide themselves.
BANG! The main door was thrown open, and a gruff voice boomed, "Here. The unlucky bastard who lived here couldn’t control himself last night and fell. You two can live here. But you’ll have to figure out how to fix the broken window yourselves."
"Okay, okay! We’re just glad it’s our turn to get a house."
"Then pay the rent. You can’t live here for free."
The jangling of coins followed, and then the THUMP THUMP THUMP of departing footsteps.
Then came the sound of the door closing.
"Hmph, can’t believe he had the nerve to charge us so much for this dump. And you, really? Couldn’t you have haggled a bit?"
"If you’re so good at haggling, why didn’t you do it?" The voice paused, then continued, "We just have to survive for one month, and then we can get a voucher for the New City. We won’t get one by hiding all over the place."
"True. Once we’re in the New City, we’ll be new citizens. It must be like paradise there."
"In your dreams. Just behave yourself this month. Otherwise, I don’t have the money to send you to the hospital for shots."
As they spoke, the two began to inspect the house they would be living in for the next month.
And then they were taken out, one by one, by Faye Yardley and the other three.
Killing each of them earned one hundred points.
They were clearly High Level zombies.
Faye Yardley wasn’t planning on using her backpack to store the bodies again, but Caleb Colby, now familiar with the task, collected them without hesitation.
And because everyone knew two new people had moved in, they wouldn’t arouse suspicion from the neighbors below or next door if they made a little noise moving around upstairs.
The sound of them moving tables, chairs, and the sofa got a little loud. Aside from a neighbor shouting, "Would it kill you to be a little quieter?!" no one came over to visit.
This helped the four of them relax quite a bit.
"One of them was about my size. I’ll wrap up my head and face, dress warmly, and go out." Finn Ford decided to go take a look around. Also, the coins they had found on the two bodies were very interesting—a type of currency they had never seen before.
Finn Ford took a few of the coins with him, just in case.
"Be careful," Zachary Pierce warned. He then prepared to close the window and nail the curtains over it.
’It was strange,’ she thought. ’If those people were so afraid of being tempted by the outside, why didn’t they just board up the windows completely?’
Faye Yardley contributed the blanket she had slept with the previous night, watching as they used it to cover the window securely.
The drizzling rain outside could actually corrode human skin. Zachary Pierce only discovered this when a few drops drifted onto his cheek while he was nailing up the window.
’Does that mean only sunlight lets people walk outside without fear?’
Thankfully, it didn’t get in his eyes. After that, they became even more thorough with their protection, putting on glasses and leaving no chance for the rain to get in.
They left the window they had originally climbed through unsealed.
"This should do it, right?"
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK~
A knock came at the door.
