Chapter 257: Prelude to the New Event
She posted a photo in the group chat of the sea train ticket and return ticket she had just gotten, and then wrote, "I got these from opening a chest today. There might be a new event soon. If you guys get one, you’d better check for a return ticket too. It’s best for everyone to have a set of tickets for the trip there and back. Otherwise, who knows what will happen by the end of the event."
Wade Warren: "Hey, group admin. I also got a train ticket, but I didn’t see a return one."
Leo Sloan: "My son got a return ticket today, and I was wondering what good just a return ticket was. If the event is a group activity, then I’ll need to prepare five sets. Looks like I’ll have to keep fishing for treasure chests tonight."
Wade Warren: "That’s right, we have to prepare them for our family members too. Oh my god, this is going to be incredibly difficult."
Kyle Lewis: "Haven’t fished for any treasure chests today. I’m going now."
Zachary Pierce: "I didn’t expect a new event to come so soon. Everyone, it’s best not to panic. If there’s really an event, the system will definitely give a notification. Fishing for treasure chests during the day is safer."
Zachary Pierce hadn’t expected to see this news the moment he sat down to rest after a busy day. ’What’s the point of resting now?’ He had to quickly get the guild members with high Luck Value to start opening chests.
Things were happening one after another, giving no one time to even breathe. It would be a lie to say they weren’t tired.
But no matter how tired they were, they needed to be at the forefront. They also needed to make an announcement on the national channel, lest some people get a ticket, think it’s useless, and casually throw it away.
And it wasn’t as if people like that didn’t exist—in fact, there were plenty of them.
Especially the group of young kids who had just arrived here.
They didn’t necessarily have adults with them. Even though word was out that they could get wood here to help upgrade their rafts first, the total number of people willing to believe it and accept the aid was surprisingly small.
Zachary Pierce sent another message to Faye Yardley: "Yardley, could I trouble you to post what you just found on the national channel? As number one on the combat power leaderboard, a lot more people will definitely be willing to believe you."
Faye Yardley looked at the message, blinked, and agreed, "Alright. But I think you shouldn’t get your hopes up, Mr. Pierce. People are actually more willing to trust their own judgment."
Zachary Pierce: "I know, but as long as one person is willing to believe you, it won’t have been for nothing."
She copied and pasted the message from the small group chat to the national channel. Unexpectedly, her post was automatically pinned to the top.
’What’s the logic behind that?’
’Is this some kind of special treatment from the system?’
[Whoa, I can’t believe I’m seeing the aloof number one player talk. First like is me!]
[You’re only two years older than me, sis! I’ll definitely catch up to you!]
[The important thing is that the top player said a new event is coming, right? I got a sea train ticket, but I had no idea there were return tickets too. What a trap.]
[Dammit, dammit, dammit! I’m the one who should be standing at the pinnacle of the nation, worshipped by all of you!]
[Is the person above crazy? To be acting so much like an edgy teenager at their age.]
[Um, I got a Nightfall Citadel ticket (photo). So if I don’t have a train ticket, I can’t go, is that right?]
[Why didn’t you say so earlier? I threw mine away this morning! rage.jpg]
[Are there still idiots alive in this world? surprised.jpg]
Faye Yardley couldn’t care less what was being said on the public channel. She switched channels as soon as she was done posting.
She had already witnessed the full spectrum of human foolishness before and had no desire to see it again.
She’d rather spend the time in the training room getting some exercise.
After truly experiencing combat in a high-gravity environment, she knew that her daily training was still lacking in many ways.
But after a moment’s thought, Faye Yardley called Bella Dillon on her way to the training room. The call was answered quickly, and it was clear that Bella was very happy. She was currently in Ludo’s shop.
"Hi, my cute and beautiful Faye! Are you calling me at this hour because you miss me?"
"I figured you’ve been to a lot of places, so I wanted to ask if you know about Nightfall Citadel."
"Night-what Citadel? I’ve never heard of it before."
"Then it seems you don’t know. You’re in the handsome Mr. Ludo’s shop, right? Can you help me ask the handsome uncle if he knows?"
Bella Dillon’s smile froze on her face. "Faye Yardley, you’ve gone too far! Mr. Ludo, it’s Mr. Ludo! What do you mean by making yourself one of my elders out of nowhere? I..."
"What about ’I’? Of course, I’m the handsome and charming Uncle Ludo." Ludo appeared from beside Bella Dillon and greeted Faye Yardley happily. "My beautiful Faye, what do you want to know? Just ask me directly."
"Handsome Uncle Ludo, do you know about Nightfall Citadel?"
"I do. It’s a very fun and interesting place. If you’re going, remember that you must be polite there."
"Okay, thank you for the advice, handsome uncle. I will be sure to remember it."
Bella Dillon pushed her way in front of Ludo. "Faye, take me with you! I want to go too!"
Ludo said directly, "You can’t go. There’s a special train that goes there, and you need a ticket first. Even if Faye had a ticket in her hands, she couldn’t give it to you."
Faye Yardley nodded. It was true; the phone could only be used for calls, not for sending Red Envelopes.
She finally hung up amidst Bella Dillon’s squawking. Faye Yardley, meanwhile, was wondering if she should tell everyone that you need to be polite in Nightfall Citadel.
After thinking about it, she decided against it. ’Forget it.’ There was no need to tell everyone about something for which she had no proof. She just mentioned it in her small group chat, to her brother, and to her other close friends.
What they did with the information would be their own choice. Everyone had to be responsible for their own actions.
Upon seeing the message, Eleanor Jonas’s natural instinct was to question it, but she ultimately restrained herself.
’Everyone has their own sources of information and their own secrets. What right did she have to get to the bottom of it?’
’Mentioning it was a sign of goodwill; not mentioning it would have simply been the norm.’
She repeatedly reminded herself that things were different now; she couldn’t demand to know the root of everything.
After saying her piece, Faye Yardley went straight into the training room. Improving her own abilities through training was the best way forward; everything else was secondary.
As the days passed, her mindset changed a great deal. She herself could clearly feel this change.
But she really liked the person she was becoming.
The possible arrival of a new event had everyone’s nerves stretched taut.
Some were looking forward to it, while others wanted to curse up a storm.
But not a single person said they didn’t believe it. They were all just thinking about how they needed to work harder.
Ethan Yardley looked at the group of little brats before him and couldn’t help but start to worry. ’If a new event really comes, what will happen to these little kids?’
’The youngest one here hasn’t even learned to walk yet and still needs someone to feed them. If someone like that participates in the event, won’t something terrible happen?’
"Boss, don’t worry. There are so many of us. Can’t we protect these kids?"
Looking at Gavin Donovan, Ethan Yardley really wondered how this kid had managed to grow up. ’He really doesn’t think about complex matters at all, always living by the principle of taking things as they come.’
’It was a miracle he hadn’t been swindled and sold by someone by now, wasn’t it?!’
