Manchester United Revival

Chapter 125: MCI vs MUN

The sky above the Etihad Stadium was a dark, bruising grey. The air felt cold, carrying the distinct smell of wet rain and freshly cut grass. With over fifty thousand passionate fans packed tightly into the steep stands, vibrant blue flags waved in a constant, rhythmic motion. Generating a steady, deafening roar, the home crowd set the stage. This was the Manchester derby.

Inside the concrete tunnel, the tense players lined up side by side. Wearing their famous sky-blue kits, the Manchester City squad jumped actively on the spot, clapped their hands loudly, and shouted aggressive encouragement to each other. Standing near the very front of the line, Erling Haaland chewed gum methodically while staring straight ahead with blank, predatory focus.

On the opposite side of the narrow tunnel, the Manchester United players stood tall in their iconic red kits. While Harry Maguire carefully adjusted his captain's armband, Cristiano Ronaldo bounced lightly on his toes to stay warm. Staring directly at the back of Haaland's blonde head, Kim Min-jae maintained a completely unreadable, stoic expression.

"Welcome to the Etihad Stadium," Peter Drury's booming voice projected across the global television broadcast, perfectly setting the dramatic scene. "The blue half of Manchester hosts the red. Pep Guardiola against Marcus Vale. It is a brilliant clash of distinct footballing philosophies. City arrive with the devastating Erling Haaland leading the line, a man scoring goals purely for fun. But they face a United side that has yet to taste defeat under their new manager. Marcus Vale has miraculously turned United into an impenetrable wall of discipline. The stage is perfectly set."

Picking up the official match ball, the referee finally led the two teams out of the tunnel and onto the bright, glowing green pitch. Instantly, the crowd noise doubled in sheer volume.

Down on the slick touchline, Pep Guardiola was already pacing the absolute edge of his technical area before the whistle even blew. Rubbing his bald head aggressively, he pointed wildly at his players to demand proper positioning before finally crouching down on his haunches. The Spaniard wore a fitted grey jumper paired with dark, stylish trousers.

Walking out of the tunnel a quiet moment later, Marcus Vale wore his standard black club suit. Keeping his hands securely tucked inside his deep pockets, the manager strolled casually over to the blue plastic water cooler situated near the United bench. Simply taking a seat on the plastic lid, he rested his elbows comfortably on his knees.

Blowing his whistle sharply, the referee started the match. Manchester City kicked off.

Rolling the ball backward, Kevin De Bruyne found Rodri, who took a single touch before passing it wide to Rúben Dias. Instantly taking complete control of the possession, City passed the ball rapidly across their defensive backline, aggressively probing for structural weaknesses. Finding Manuel Akanji, the center-back then shifted it to Sergio Gómez out on the left flank.

Holding the ball comfortably for the first three minutes without a single United player managing a touch, the hosts dictated the tempo. Standing right on the edge of the wet grass, Pep shouted frantic instructions while waving his hand in a rapid, circular motion. The manager explicitly wanted his right-back, João Cancelo, to step out of the traditional defense and invert into the central midfield directly alongside Rodri.

Following the specific instruction flawlessly, Cancelo jogged into the center circle, immediately granting City a crucial extra man in the middle of the pitch. Consequently, this tactical overload allowed both De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva to push much higher up the pitch, operating dangerously in the half-spaces lurking just behind Haaland.

"City settling into their rhythm very early," Drury noted intelligently on the commentary feed. "Guardiola is using Cancelo as an inverted fullback. He is trying to overload the midfield, deliberately forcing United to commit bodies centrally. Look at exactly how high De Bruyne and Silva are pushing."

In the fifth minute, City aggressively tried to strike.

Receiving a crisp pass from Dias, Rodri looked up and quickly spotted De Bruyne locating a tiny pocket of space hiding behind Bruno Guimarães. Playing a sharp, vertical pass firmly along the wet ground, Rodri bypassed the first line. Letting the fast ball run perfectly across his body, De Bruyne turned in one blindingly fluid motion to immediately face the United goal.

Making a sudden, explosive darting run directly behind the United defense, Haaland pointed explicitly to the empty space. Refusing to hesitate, the Belgian playmaker delivered a perfectly weighted through ball straight into the penalty box.

However, Kim Min-jae did not panic. Having diligently watched countless hours of tactical video footage, the South Korean explicitly knew Haaland loved to drop his heavy shoulder and burst terrifyingly into a defender's blind spot. Therefore, instead of foolishly turning his back to desperately chase the striker, Kim simply stepped backward, perfectly read the wicked flight of the ball, and intelligently placed his large body directly into the passing lane. Hitting the defender's right foot cleanly, the ball stopped dead. Looking up calmly, Kim rolled a clean, simple pass safely out to Luke Shaw.

"Brilliant reading of the game by Kim Min-jae," the co-commentator praised instantly. "Haaland made the dangerous run, De Bruyne found the perfect pass, but the South Korean defender simply stepped right across and slammed the door shut."

Recovering the loose ball quickly, Phil Foden pressed Shaw aggressively, effectively forcing the left-back to clear the leather long. Heading it safely down to Rodri, Akanji allowed City to immediately start their buildup again.

For the next ten agonizing minutes, City successfully held the ball deep inside the United half. Moving it methodically left to Jack Grealish, the winger stopped the ball completely with the sole of his boot, patiently waiting for Kieran Trippier to recklessly commit. However, Trippier stayed perfectly balanced on his feet, maintaining his safe distance. Realizing he could not beat the disciplined defender easily, Grealish reluctantly passed the ball backward to Silva.

Switching the play beautifully with a long diagonal pass over to Foden on the right wing, Silva changed the point of attack. Bringing the dropping ball down flawlessly on his chest, Foden drove aggressively at Shaw. Standing his ground firmly, the left-back jockeyed steadily backward. When the attacker eventually tried to slip a cute pass inside to De Bruyne, Denis Zakaria stretched out a massive, long leg to cleanly intercept the ball.

Throwing his hands up in pure frustration on the touchline, Guardiola shouted angrily at Foden to pass the ball much quicker.

Because Cancelo had permanently moved into the midfield, Marcus knew the center of the pitch would be heavily congested.

In the eighteenth minute, the ball finally bounced out of play for a home throw-in right near the busy dugouts.

Jogging over to the touchline to grab a plastic water bottle, Denis Zakaria approached his manager. Leaning forward slightly from his seat, Marcus delivered a crucial adjustment.

"Tell Jadon and Khvicha to tuck inside," the tactician instructed quietly, his calm voice easily carrying over the massive crowd noise to reach his midfielder. "Narrow the midfield completely. Willingly let their wingers have the ball out wide, but absolutely do not let De Bruyne turn and face our goal."

Nodding in immediate understanding, the Swiss international squirted water hastily into his mouth, dropped the bottle, and sprinted back onto the pitch. Pointing urgently at both Sancho and Kvaratskhelia, he quickly passed the tactical message along.

Following the command instantly, the two wingers stepped significantly inside, moving much closer to the center circle. Consequently, United rapidly formed a tight, incredibly compact red block right in the middle of the pitch.

When play finally resumed, City stubbornly tried to utilize their central overload again. Receiving the ball smoothly from Rodri, Cancelo immediately looked for Silva. However, because Sancho and Kvaratskhelia had pinched so far inside, the crucial passing lanes were completely blocked. City's numerical advantage in the middle was instantly and entirely neutralized.

"Look closely at the shape of this United team," Drury pointed out to the viewers. "Marcus Vale has instructed his wide men to pinch dramatically inwards. They are essentially forming a solid red wall in the absolute center of the park. De Bruyne and Silva are being completely suffocated. They simply have absolutely no room to breathe, let alone pick a dangerous pass."

Deeply frustrated by the sudden lack of space in the middle, Cancelo passed the ball wide to Grealish.

Receiving the ball out on the left touchline, Grealish finally had space, but he was trapped far away from the actual goal. Running aggressively at Trippier, he desperately tried to cut inside onto his stronger right foot. Staying perfectly balanced once again, the English defender watched the ball closely before poking it cleanly away for a corner kick.

Walking over slowly to take the set piece, De Bruyne raised both hands high into the air before whipping a dangerous, in-swinging cross directly toward the crowded six-yard box.

Wrestling violently with Kim, Haaland desperately tried to muscle a free run at the ball. Ignoring the physical wrestling match entirely, the United captain stepped bravely forward. Tracking the dipping flight of the ball perfectly, Harry Maguire jumped significantly higher than Dias to power a heavy, commanding header entirely out of the penalty box.

Collecting the clearing header, Guimarães immediately tried to launch a rapid counter-attack, but Rodri cynically fouled the Brazilian near the halfway line to effectively stop the dangerous break.

Looking absolutely frantic on the touchline, Guardiola finally took off his grey jumper and threw it angrily onto his padded seat. Pacing aggressively in just a t-shirt despite the bitter cold air, the Spaniard waved his arms wildly, explicitly signaling for De Bruyne to drift much further out to the right wing. He desperately wanted De Bruyne and Foden to double up aggressively on Luke Shaw.

City just kept passing. Dias to Akanji. Akanji to Rodri. Rodri to De Bruyne out on the right wing.

In the thirtieth minute, De Gea comfortably caught a loose, hopeful cross from Foden. Holding the ball securely against his chest, the Spanish goalkeeper walked incredibly slowly toward the absolute edge of his box, deliberately wasting a few precious seconds to let his exhausted team finally breathe.

Walking backward methodically toward the halfway line, Luke Shaw got ready to receive a long clearance.

Catching Shaw's eye directly from the bench, Marcus held up his hand, tapped his own chest exactly twice, and pointed firmly at the wet ground. It was a simple, highly pre-arranged signal.

Nodding slightly, Shaw understood.

When De Gea eventually rolled the ball out short to Kim, City immediately initiated a frantic high press. As the center-back passed the ball over to Shaw, the left-back normally would have confidently carried the ball forward. However, strictly following his manager's signal, Shaw stopped completely dead. Staying resolutely back, he formed a flat, rigid back four perfectly alongside Kim, Maguire, and Trippier.

Consequently, when City recovered the ball and frantically tried to attack down the right side using De Bruyne and Foden, they found absolutely zero space waiting behind the defense. Because Shaw stubbornly refused to push forward, the exact exploitable space De Bruyne desperately wanted simply did not exist. Meanwhile, Kvaratskhelia dropped incredibly deep to perfectly cover the dangerous overlapping runs coming from Cancelo. Pep's elaborate attempt to manufacture a two-on-one overload against the fullback failed completely and utterly.

"It is an incredibly fascinating game of tactical chess," Drury murmured softly over the broadcast. "Guardiola violently moves a piece, and Vale calmly counters it without even breaking a single sweat. United are flawlessly absorbing absolutely everything City throw at them. Erling Haaland has barely even touched the ball in thirty-five minutes, simply because Kim Min-jae is actively following him around like a relentless shadow."

In the thirty-eighth minute, the frustrated striker desperately tried to get involved. Dropping a long ball perfectly onto his chest, Rodri fed his talisman. Holding off Kim aggressively with his broad back to the goal, Haaland desperately tried to lay the ball off backward to Silva. However, perfectly anticipating the obvious pass, Kim stepped smoothly around Haaland's massive frame and intercepted the leather cleanly with his left foot before immediately playing it safely up to Zakaria.

By the forty-first minute, City's collective frustration finally boiled over.

Having held a staggering seventy percent of the total possession, the hosts had completely failed to register a single actual shot on target. Pushing entirely too high up the pitch, Rodri foolishly tried to force an impossible pass straight through the tight United block directly toward his isolated striker.

The desperate pass was slightly overhit. Reading the precise trajectory perfectly, Zakaria stepped in firmly, won the ball cleanly with a crunching tackle, and immediately pushed it aggressively forward to Bruno Fernandes.

Looking up instantly, Bruno saw the City defense was completely disorganized, with Cancelo still hopelessly caught far up the pitch. While the Portuguese playmaker admittedly had a terrible habit of trying overly difficult, looping Hollywood passes, he strictly remembered his manager's harsh words from training. Keep it completely simple.

Spotting Kvaratskhelia making a blistering full sprint entirely down the left flank, Bruno realized Manuel Akanji was completely isolated, tracking backward in sheer panic.

Playing a phenomenally fast, flat pass perfectly along the ground, Bruno ruthlessly split the massive gap between Rodri and Dias.

Controlling the ball flawlessly without breaking his blazing stride, Kvaratskhelia knocked it aggressively forward with his right knee and drove straight at Akanji. Backpedaling incredibly quickly, the City defender was visibly terrified of the Georgian winger's raw, explosive pace.

Entering the penalty box on the left side, the attacker watched Akanji nervously plant his feet, desperately preparing to block an impending shot. Faking a violently hard shot with his right foot, Kvaratskhelia totally sold the lie. Buying the fake completely, Akanji foolishly turned his entire body to brace for impact.

Instantly chopping the ball sharply back to his left foot, Kvaratskhelia whipped a viciously hard, low cross right across the face of the six-yard box.

Having started his driving run from the absolute edge of the area, Cristiano Ronaldo saw Rúben Dias foolishly ball-watching instead of actively tracking his man. Drifting blindly and brilliantly behind the distracted defender, the veteran effortlessly found a tiny pocket of lethal space.

As the cross rocketed in incredibly fast, Ronaldo arrived perfectly at the near post. Refusing to take an unnecessary setup touch, he simply opened his right foot and expertly guided the ball directly past a desperately diving Ederson straight into the bottom corner of the net.

"And United strike!" Drury screamed, his excited voice echoing powerfully over the global broadcast. "Completely against the run of play, but executed with absolute, ruthless precision! The trap was perfectly set, and City walked right into it! Cristiano Ronaldo completely silences the Etihad! One-nil to Manchester United!"

The packed away end situated behind the goal absolutely exploded in deafening noise as thick red smoke began to drift wildly into the air from a smuggled flare.

Sprinting joyously toward the corner flag, Ronaldo leaped high into the air and flawlessly performed his signature celebration. Seconds later, Sancho, Bruno, and Kvaratskhelia ran over to happily jump right on his back.

Putting both hands tightly on his bald head, Pep Guardiola stared blankly at the pitch in utter disbelief before violently kicking a plastic water bottle near his dugout.

Crossing his legs comfortably on the plastic cooler, Marcus merely pulled his heavy coat slightly tighter around his neck against the biting wind. He sat quietly and watched the deeply frustrated City players angrily argue with each other near the center circle.

Kicking off again, the hosts were clearly rattled. Desperately trying to push forward quickly before the halftime whistle, Foden successfully won a cheap free-kick right on the edge of the box. Whipping it dangerously in, De Bruyne watched helplessly as Maguire was right there again, heading the heavy ball away with total authority.

Blowing the whistle for halftime, the referee sent the players off the pitch. Trudging down the tunnel to a deafening chorus of angry boos from the frustrated home fans, Marcus stood up and walked away, his face completely and entirely unreadable.

Beginning exactly as the first had ended, the second half saw City instantly take the ball while United stubbornly held their rigid shape.

Having clearly delivered a fierce, passionate team talk in the home dressing room, Pep watched his squad come out looking incredibly desperate and highly aggressive.

Ordering his wingers, Foden and Grealish, to stay as absolutely wide as possible by keeping their boots strictly on the chalk of the touchline, the Spaniard desperately tried to stretch United's frustratingly narrow block. He urgently wanted to pull Kim and Maguire far apart to manufacture physical gaps for Haaland to finally run into.

In the fiftieth minute, City successfully created their absolute best chance of the match.

Switching the play brilliantly, Cancelo found Grealish. Bringing the ball down smoothly, the winger ran directly at Trippier. However, this time, Grealish did not try to cut inside. Driving powerfully to the deep byline, he fired a dangerously hard, low cross right across the face of the open goal.

Making a desperate, sliding run, Haaland fully extended his incredibly long leg. Agonizingly, the ball missed his sharp studs by a mere inch, causing the tense home crowd to groan collectively in sheer despair.

"A massive warning shot from Manchester City," Drury noted urgently. "They are noticeably increasing the tempo. The passing is much sharper, and the movement is significantly faster. United are truly going to have to weather a very heavy, dangerous storm here in the second half."

Attacking in relentless waves, the hosts ensured the ball rarely ever left the United half. Drifting into deeper positions, De Bruyne started desperately floating hopeful crosses into the crowded box.

In the fifty-fifth minute, De Bruyne launched a cross from the right flank. Jumping highly, Maguire confidently headed it away.

In the fifty-seventh minute, Silva whipped a cross in from the left side. Stepping bravely forward, Maguire decisively headed it clear once again.

In the fifty-ninth minute, Foden managed to cut inside and curl a vicious shot directly toward the top corner. Diving spectacularly to his left, De Gea managed to punch the heavy ball out for a corner kick.

"Harry Maguire is honestly having a monstrous game in the air," the co-commentator praised heavily. "Every single time City put the ball anywhere near the box, that massive head is right there to meet it. He is acting like an absolute magnet for the football right now."

Reaching the sixtieth minute, Pep Guardiola decided he simply could not wait any longer. He executed a massive tactical gamble.

Calling Sergio Gómez and Jack Grealish to the touchline, the board went up. Bringing on Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Aké, the Spaniard completely changed City's entire formation. Switching desperately to a back three consisting of Dias, Akanji, and Aké, he aggressively pushed Cancelo extremely high up the pitch to essentially play as a left winger, while deploying Mahrez directly on the right.

Throwing absolutely everything forward, Pep had essentially put five dedicated attackers onto the pitch, foolishly gambling his entire defensive structure simply for an equalizer.

Standing up slowly from the plastic cooler, Marcus walked calmly to the absolute edge of his technical area. Putting both hands deep into his pockets, he silently watched the new City shape unfold for two full minutes. He watched Mahrez aggressively hug the right touchline, and he watched Cancelo bomb dangerously forward on the left.

Then, Marcus turned slowly and looked directly at his own bench.

"Aaron. Scott," Marcus called out clearly.

Immediately stripping off their warm-up jackets, Wan-Bissaka and McTominay jogged eagerly over to the fourth official.

In the sixty-fifth minute, the ball finally went out for a City throw-in. Lighting up in bright red, the electronic board signaled for Kieran Trippier and Bruno Fernandes to come off.

Although Trippier had played a highly solid game, Marcus absolutely knew the fresh legs of Mahrez and Cancelo would desperately try to isolate the tired fullbacks. Therefore, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was brought on purely to completely lock down that specific side of the pitch. Additionally, McTominay replaced the creative Fernandes to inject crucial physical grit, imposing height, and endless, tireless running into the midfield. Marcus wanted to absolutely ensure that Zakaria and Guimarães did not get hopelessly overrun by City's frantic desperation.

"Marcus Vale responds immediately and ruthlessly to Guardiola's roll of the dice," Drury observed brilliantly. "He is slamming the door completely shut. He takes off his primary creator in Fernandes and brings on an absolute destroyer in McTominay. He swaps Trippier for Wan-Bissaka, who is arguably the absolute best one-on-one tackler in European football. It is truly ruthless, highly pragmatic game management."

In the sixty-eighth minute, De Bruyne successfully found Mahrez out on the right wing. Trapping the ball with a velvet touch, the Algerian winger finally faced Wan-Bissaka.

Executing two blindingly quick stepovers, Mahrez desperately tried to aggressively push the ball right past the United defender. However, Wan-Bissaka did not bite on the flashy fakes for a single second. Simply extending his incredibly long right leg, he hooked the ball completely cleanly away from the attacker and calmly passed it inside to Zakaria.

Two minutes later, Mahrez stubbornly tried again. Desperately trying to cut inside onto his favored left foot, he was thwarted when Wan-Bissaka slid beautifully across the wet grass, timing the crucial tackle absolutely perfectly to knock the ball safely out for a throw-in.

Instantly, City's desperate attacks down the right side completely and utterly died.

Growing visibly furious, Erling Haaland had been completely pocketed by Kim Min-jae for seventy agonizing minutes. Desperate for any involvement, the striker decided to drop incredibly deep into the midfield simply to get a few pathetic touches on the ball.

Passing smoothly to Haaland near the center circle, Rodri watched his teammate try to control it.

However, completely abandoning the defensive line, Kim Min-jae ruthlessly followed the striker right out of position. Staying incredibly tight to Haaland's broad back, the South Korean legally outmuscled the massive Norwegian and simply poked the ball away from his feet before the striker could even attempt to turn around.

Picking up the loose ball eagerly, McTominay drove powerfully forward, eventually winning a clever free-kick to successfully relieve the mounting pressure on the defense.

"Erling Haaland is honestly having a thoroughly miserable afternoon," the co-commentator noted with a chuckle. "Kim Min-jae has literally given him absolutely zero space. He hasn't allowed him to turn, he hasn't allowed him to run. It is an absolute defensive masterclass from the South Korean."

In the seventy-fifth minute, Marcus made his next decisive moves. Actively wanting to ruthlessly exploit the massive, gaping gaps City were currently leaving at the back, he prepared his weapons.

"Loïs. Mason," Marcus called out.

Jogging off the pitch, Ronaldo and Sancho departed to a deafening cheer from the United away end, who loudly sang the Portuguese legend's name. Stepping eagerly onto the grass, Loïs Openda and Mason Greenwood entered the fray.

Looking nervously at the bold substitutions, Pep Guardiola rubbed his face in sheer stress. Taking a frantic sip from a plastic water bottle, he threw it angrily onto the ground. The Spaniard knew exactly what Marcus was doing. By actively bringing on Openda and Greenwood, Marcus had just introduced terrifying raw pace directly against a depleted City defense that was currently sitting desperately on the halfway line.

Because City absolutely had to score, they stubbornly kept pushing blindly forward.

Taking a highly desperate shot from twenty-five yards out, De Bruyne watched it sail harmlessly over the crossbar. Trying vainly to dribble through the congested middle, Silva was abruptly halted when McTominay crashed violently into him with a heavy, completely fair tackle, sending the Portuguese midfielder tumbling painfully to the ground while the referee waved play on.

In the eighty-fifth minute, Marcus made his final, calculated change. Bringing on young James Garner for Guimarães, he simply wanted fresh legs inside the midfield block to comfortably see out the final, tense minutes of the game.

Picking up the ball in the midfield, Rodri passed it wide to Cancelo. Looking up desperately, the fullback swung a hopeful, looping cross entirely toward the back post, praying Haaland could finally win a single header.

Jumping incredibly early, Harry Maguire towered massively over Nathan Aké to head the ball firmly and decisively out of the penalty box, clearing the imminent danger yet again.

Falling neatly out to the edge of the area, the ball found a waiting Scott McTominay. Refusing to hold onto it or foolishly look to build up slow play, the midfielder looked up, saw the ridiculously high City defensive line, and simply drove a massive, sweeping long pass completely over the heads of the stranded City midfielders.

Loïs Openda was already furiously running.

Trying desperately to turn and chase, Rúben Dias realized Openda's fresh legs were entirely too fast. Burning effortlessly past the lumbering City center-back, the Belgian striker collected the bouncing ball absolutely perfectly in his stride just over the halfway line.

There were literally no defenders left. Rushing wildly out of his penalty box, Ederson sprinted directly toward the ball, desperately trying to act as a sweeping savior to clear the massive danger.

Refusing to slow down whatsoever, Openda reached the ball exactly thirty yards from the goal. Seeing Ederson rushing aggressively at him, the striker took one incredibly sharp touch to the right, knocking the ball cleanly past the sliding, helpless goalkeeper, taking Ederson completely and utterly out of the play.

Looking up calmly, Openda saw the goal was completely empty. Jogging forward just two simple steps, he merely passed the ball gently into the back of the net.

"Two for United!" Drury roared, his iconic voice cracking wildly with raw excitement. "A classic, absolutely devastating counter-attack! Manchester City throw absolutely everything forward, and they are ruthlessly punished on the break! Marcus Vale's brilliant substitutes combine perfectly to break City hearts! The unstoppable red machine rolls on in Manchester!"

The United away end absolutely exploded. Red flares went off instantly in the upper tier, completely filling the cold air with thick, choking smoke as fans climbed wildly over each other in pure, unadulterated joy. Celebrating passionately, Openda jumped completely over the advertising boards to scream joyously with the traveling supporters while aggressively beating the club badge on his chest. Sprinting the entire length of the pitch, Greenwood and Garner happily jumped on top of him.

Sinking heavily into his seat in the dugout, Pep Guardiola stared blankly at the grass, looking utterly exhausted and defeated. His massive tactical gamble had failed completely. Having intricately prepared for the fluid rotational play of United, he was entirely undone when Marcus simply played a ruthlessly disciplined, defensive counter-attacking game instead.

Standing quietly on the touchline, Marcus offered a rare, genuine smile as he proudly watched his players celebrate the killing blow.

Although the referee officially added three minutes of injury time, the game was already entirely over. Defeated home fans began leaving the massive stadium in thousands, heading desperately for the exits to beat the terrible traffic.

When the final whistle finally blew, a loud, incredibly triumphant cheer erupted from the exhausted United players on the pitch. Maguire hugged Kim Min-jae fiercely, while De Gea pumped both fists triumphantly into the air.

Walking calmly across the wet grass toward the City dugout, Marcus approached a tired-looking Pep Guardiola, who stood up to shake his hand respectfully.

"Good game," Pep offered quietly.

"Thank you," Marcus replied simply.

Exchanging a brief, highly polite nod, absolutely no other words were needed.

"Full time at the Etihad Stadium," Drury summarized flawlessly, his voice returning to a normal, professional register as the cameras panned beautifully across the passionately celebrating United squad. "A pure tactical masterclass from Marcus Vale. United absorbed the heavy pressure perfectly. They have entirely shut down the league's absolute most dangerous striker. And they struck with lethal, highly calculated precision. Manchester City had all the useless ball, but Manchester United have all the valuable points. Manchester has officially been red for the last ten months."

Walking casually over to the away end, Marcus listened as the ecstatic fans loudly sang his name, the chant echoing beautifully in the half-empty stadium. Stopping right at the edge of the penalty area, the manager took both hands out of his deep pockets and clapped his hands exactly once, firmly, to thank them for their support. Then, turning around smoothly, he walked quietly down the tunnel, his analytical mind already entirely focused on preparing for the very next match.
