Retired S-rank father becomes a teacher

Chapter 64. The return of the Professor.

In Aethelgard academy, a professor finally returned from his month long absence, leaving his students with a substitute combat instructor. Silas didn’t bother with the greetings as he walked to his classroom. The students were loud and gossiping as he entered, all eyes falling on him. His run in with the Judge and President was widely known at this point.

The clickity clack of his dress shoes was the only sound as he reached the double doors and opened them.

The class quieted down, even his daughters went silent. What was their father going to do this time?

With a smirk on his face, he walked to his desk that was across the room, taking his sweet time, enjoying the way the students held their breath.

His chair squeaked when he sat down and leaned back.

“So I am assuming the substitute professor was terrible since you all lack the glow of someone who actually learned combat skills,” his eyes went from student to student. Each of them avoiding his gaze, some had red faces.

“Of course my daughters are excluded,” he added, his gaze on Katherine and Victoria.

Kathy’s eye twitched and she scoffed, Vic was as composed as ever.

Jessica on the other hand was glaring at the desk, her lips pressed in a thin line. Her presence in this classroom made him chuckle, this was his request to Lucifer, to have an all female class for his girls so that meant the three musketeers were reunited and ready for his teachings. The air was tense in anticipation.

A sigh left him and he got up again. Adjusting his tie, he went to stand in the middle of the podium.

“Do you all seriously think I would do anything that would get me in more trouble with Judge Litorei on my first day back?” Silas asked, the students looked between each other.

Mizuri raised her hand.

“Yes, yes you would.” She answered with a straight face.

Laughter erupted in the classroom and he smiled. The students were not as scared as before and he was glad to see it because that meant he could push them even harder.

He coughed to silence the room again and put his hands behind his back.

“As you may know I recently had to attend university to become a certified professor.” He looked at each of the students. “So today, let’s put the knowledge I learned about mana ethics and regulations into combat training.”

Victoria was the only one who didn’t have a confused expression on her face, she knew what was coming.

Clapping twice, he teleported the whole class to a forest in the mountains, the sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze.

The students were disoriented as they tried to figure out where they were. Then they saw the big metal gate in the distance. It was as tall as the trees and there was an aura of dread coming from it—for D-rankers.

“Dad?” Katherine asked with a frown, looking at him.

He grinned. With another teleportation, they were inside of the gate and he could see the students paling as the cold dread was in their bones now.

This was a C-ranked dungeon. The air felt heavy, the wind was colder and it was eerily silent. A perfect place to train his class.

The dungeon had a ruined village vibe, the buildings were all made of gray stone and there were vines everywhere, covering them. There were no monsters roaming the streets yet.

“Alright, group up into teams of five. You won’t leave the dungeon until every team reaches C-rank,” he announced and the students started to scramble, their faces panicked. His eyes were on his girls, Vic and Kathy stood together with Jessica and two other musketeers.

With a zap, he was in front of his daughters. The smell of mold and old stone was strong here. It made his nose itch.

“Kat, Vic, Jessica, Mizuri, Meilin. You’re all one team and quite the best one at that.” His hands went to the girl’s heads, ruffling their hair, getting a smile out of Victoria and a groan from Kathy.

Jessica was the one who looked at him seriously.

“There’s absolutely no way we can all reach C-rank in a day, Professor Vane. And you are going to be prosecuted if anything happens to us.” Her words were blunt, she had her phone out, already recording him.

Silas laughed and turned his back to her, looking at the ruined buildings of the village.

“I reached C-rank in a week of continuous combat. Without the current research, technology and resources. You have all of that, a whole day of this dungeon should suffice. Besides, it’s not like I’ll let any of you die, now will I?”

Turning back, he smirked at his daughters. Even if Kathy wanted to be the one to protest, she knew that if they reached C-rank it would allow them to finally have enough mana to teleport themselves.

The other students were grouping up as well, some were afraid, others determined.

Then he teleported away, sitting on top of a building that had a good view of the whole area. He took out a sandwich Liz had made him this morning and watched as the teams started to explore the village.

With a bite, he saw a pack of C-ranked horned rabbits appear. Their bodies were fast and their horns were sharp, it was a good opponent for group A.

Their names were irrelevant, they were just numbers for him. He could hear their screams of surprise and the sounds of magic going off, fire, wind, water and earth spells clashed with the monsters.

Of course D-rank mana couldn’t beat C-rank mana so the horned rabbits easily dodged the spells and jumped at them, their horns glowing.

It took only a minute before group A was running around screaming and he was tempted to just let the rabbits kill them all but that would ruin his fun so with a snap, he teleported them to a safe place where they could recover and fight again.

His sandwich was delicious.

The first hour went like this. Groups of students fighting monsters and running around until he saved them and teleported them to safety before sending them back into the fray.

Group Princess was the best one naturally. Yet even they hadn’t reached C-rank yet.

Taking another bite, he saw the way Kathy fought, she had good footwork and her magic control was improving. She had gotten better since he last sparred with her. Dodging the rabbits, she threw three small spears of compressed space magic that propelled the small critter into a tree, knocking it out.

He nodded to himself.

Then a rabbit jumped at her and she couldn’t dodge it in time. The horn of the creature was glowing red, aiming for her stomach but in the next second Jessica’s wind magic pushed it out of the way. Her green eyes were serious as she grabbed Kathy’s arm and pulled her back to their formation. They were fighting as a proper team.

Almost the same as when he was younger.

Unfortunately at this rate, no one would reach C-rank. They lacked the desperation—the will of truly wanting power to protect themselves or humanity.

So he did what any qualified, educated combat instructor would do. He clapped his hands and teleported the world boss to group Princess. A massive minotaur with a giant axe. It had red eyes and its body was the size of two elephants, the horns were curved and deadly.

He didn’t need to use space magic to hear Jessica’s curse words.
