Retired S-rank father becomes a teacher

Chapter 32. Lucifer and Silas.

In the highest floor of the resort was the penthouse suite, its rooms furnished with gold and its glass balcony had a panoramic view of the ocean. From there, Silas could see his family having fun in the pool. Elizabeth, Victoria and Katherine were playing with Aurora. It looked fun.

It made his heart warm. He was enjoying seeing it but at the same time his mind was focused on the woman, who was casually making tea in the kitchen.

Lucifer, the Judge of the Hunters Association, wore a black suit with golden accents and her white hair was in a bun. She made tea like this was a casual Sunday afternoon.

Caiden and Elnouk were on the sofa in the living area. Both of them looked pale and sobered up. After all they were in the presence of four S-ranks, something rarely seen since stability had settled.

Evelyn sat in an armchair, one leg over the other. She wasn’t even looking at them. Her eyes locked onto Isaac. The Hand.

The bald, muscular man was standing next to the kitchen island, not joining in on the tea making, but close enough to protect the Judge. His eyes never left Silas.

“Lucifer was it? Please tell me your last name isn’t Morningstar,” Silas said with a chuckle, leaning against the balcony door. He was a bit far away from the others.

Isaac, who wore a similar black suit as Lucifer, narrowed his eyes.

The Judge just sipped her tea and glanced at Silas, a small smirk on her lips.

“No it’s actually Litorei. A little less cliché than that.” She placed the cup of tea on the counter, next to a pot of tea. Her white hair caught the sunlight coming in, making her look like a divine being.

Silas raised an eyebrow.

“So Lucifer Litorei...what an honor. Why are you here? I hope it’s just to admire the view.” He asked, motioning to the ocean.

But she shook her head, her golden earrings moving with the movement. Her posture was perfect.

“I’m afraid I am here for a rather grim affair Mr. Vane.” Her eyes turned sharp and a shift in atmosphere could be felt. “Namely the disappearance of the wives of Caiden and Elnouk.”

He crossed his arms and leaned against the door fully, the glass cold to the touch. Outside he saw a gust of wind ruffle Elizabeth’s silver hair.

Lucifer noticed where his gaze kept returning.

“Yeah, I killed them.” No point in beating around the bush.

Caiden and Elnouk stiffened on the couch, the silence stretching as Silas and Lucifer stared at each other. Neither flinching or looking away, both waiting for the other to speak.

Finally Isaac was the one who broke the quiet.

“You admit this without remorse or guilt?” His deep voice was laced with disbelief.

A shrug was Silas’s response.

“What were you expecting me to do? Grovel on the floor and beg for forgiveness?” A chuckle left his lips and he shook his head.

Lucifer chuckled too, genuinely amused as she sipped her tea.

She put the cup back down.

“Correct there’s nothing we can do about that. Your power is absolute, no? However, I do have other questions, for example why did you kill them? What crimes did they commit to deserve a death penalty?”

With a smirk, the white-haired Judge continued. “Surely you’re not a mindless ape? You must have a logical reason. Please enlighten me.”

It was an obvious bait. He knew this already and had his answer ready, a rehearsed speech to make sure the blame would fall on him and his daughter would not be implicated in any way.

He uncrossed his arms and sighed, his violet eyes losing their playfulness.

“I’m a very protective man, Lucifer. And those two women said things that upset me,” he said with a straight face.

Her smile faltered for a second but quickly recovered.

“Protective of whom?” The Judge asked, she knew the answer.

“My family,” he wasn’t going to say any name. Any specifics.

Evelyn listened quietly, Isaac watched intensely. Caiden and Elnouk sat frozen. But one of them had a thought cross his mind. Elnouk, an A-ranked hunter.

His eyes were thinking. Perhaps there actually could be justice for his wife. He was a man who loved his wife and now, after he knew what happened, and that someone actually stood against Silas, the seed of revenge was planted in him.

Lucifer nodded—she knew what he was going to say.

“Ah yes, family man. I know all about your lovely wife and daughters. I assume they were present?” She asked.

He exhaled and his mana simply filled the area he was in, occupying it.

The space warped slightly and distorted the room. Isaac reacted instantly, a black miasma formed in his hands.

The Judge didn’t move.

“Relax Isaac,” she commanded and the miasma was gone.

Silas’s mana didn’t vanish, it just continued to flow around the room in slow currents.

Lucifer clapped her hands together.

“I must admit this is the first time I’ve ever come into contact with space mana. How invigorating.” A laugh escaped her. The tea forgotten on the table.

She walked over to him and the floor creaked under her steps. It was quiet as the two S-ranks faced each other. Lucifer was shorter than him by a lot, but it didn’t seem to bother her as she looked up to meet his gaze, her red eyes full of confidence.

His jaw tightened. He wasn’t actually planning anything; it was just him letting loose because the people in front of him were strong enough to handle it. Even Evelyn didn’t mind.

“Lucifer why don’t you just say directly what you want?” Silas asked.

She tilted her head, her smile sharp.

“I want to ensure justice is served but for that, I require the truth.” She stepped even closer to him. Just one step. The scent of her floral perfume in his nose.

He towered over her. One teleport to space and she’d be dead but it was never that easy.

“I’ve already given you the truth, now fuck off and enjoy your tea.” His eyes were cold. The fun and games were done.

Lucifer turned away and her golden earrings reflected the sunlight.

“Okay,” she moved over to the table and picked up a piece of paper, the ones that were placed in every room for guests.

She put it on the island and wrote on it with a pen.

Then she showed it to him.

“I, Silas Vane, confirm that I killed Geogia Caiden and Myla Elnouk.” Lucifer said the words written on the paper.

A snort came from Silas.

A magic contract.

“Contracts are a bitch,” Evelyn spoke, finally joining in on the conversation.

The Judge looked back and nodded. “Correct. Any slight twist of words could result in completely different outcomes. But this contract is pretty transparent on what it wants from Mr. Vane here, wouldn’t you agree Ms. Everheart?”

Lucifer gave the paper to Evelyn who scanned it, checking it for loopholes. It was a simple contract. Confirm his crime and the paper will dissolve, and the Hunter Association will be satisfied, case closed.

His gaze went to the Judge. She smiled sweetly.

Silas sighed. There was no signing that contract.

“So will you sign it and I shall file this incident as you abusing your power and leave it at that?” Lucifer asked with her hands behind her back. A smile on her lips.

He shook his head.

The contract disappeared with a purple flash.

Everyone was looking at him now.

“My word is my bond. There is no need to sign something that questions it.” The mana around the penthouse thickened and the glass door cracked under the pressure he was releasing.

Isaac stepped forward. His red magic surrounding Lucifer, forming a red bubble, and he put his hand on the Judge’s shoulder.

“Then sign it? If your word is true then there won’t be a problem, will there Silas Vane?” Lucifer’s tone was firm. Unwilling to back down.

As if to sweeten the deal, she said, “Sign this and your word will forever be your bond. No more contracts for you as long I am Judge,” her offer hung in the air. A tempting one.

It was a good offer. He almost respected her for it.

But it was impossible. The contract would burn or worse and he would suffer some unknown consequence. His breath was slow and calm, despite the growing pressure.

“Lucifer, I’m going to make this very simple for you. I will never sign any contracts, even with a deal as tempting as that one. You should ask Matilda what happened last time she tried to make one with me.” A dark chuckle left his throat as he recalled that event.

Lucifer nodded.

“It seems justice is not for today,” she said, sounding almost sad. “Then you may leave Mr.Vane, Mr. Elnouk, Mr. Caiden.” She waved them off.

She wanted to speak with Evelyn. Silas looked at Evelyn who was already nodding at him with a reassuring smile. She’d be fine. This was between her sin and her.

His mana vanished, as did the cracks on the balcony door. Silas walked past Caiden and Elnouk and went downstairs with the elevator.
