Chapter 15. Kat vs Vic. Vic POV.
It was their last class for the day and the twins were putting on their training uniforms in the girls locker room. Victoria was tying up her hair in a ponytail. She ignored the chatter of her classmates and her sister’s whining.
Katherine slammed her locker shut and leaned against it. “Dad made him piss himself.”
Nodding, Victoria unbuttoned her blouse and folded it neatly in her gym bag. She took out her clothes.
“Why is dad such a jerk? I actually kind of liked Lucas,” Kathy grumbled as she too started to undress.
Victoria chuckled. She loved seeing her sister pout because of something their dad did. It made her happy because she was the reason he did it.
Katherine continued to complain, changing her top and bra without caring about her surroundings. Even though they were twins, her breasts had grown bigger, and they jiggled. Vic looked at them with a frown. Why didn’t hers grow too? Kat probably took all the genes from mom.
“You’re jealous Vic,” Kathy smirked when she noticed her stare.
Blushing, Vic shook her head. She was not. Dad was an ass man anyway and she was perfect in every other way. With that, she slipped her uniform off and unclasped her bra before putting on a training bra and training shirt. It was a hassle to change her bra but...
A cold chill ran through the room, making the skin on her arms prickle. Dad must have used his spatial senses to check on them. Hopefully he enjoyed the show.
Katherine sighed, feeling the same chill. She put on her shorts and her sneakers.
Both sisters were now ready. They walked out of the locker room and into the gymnasium where their teacher, Ms. Kim, was already waiting for them. She was a petite woman in her late twenties, with bright pink hair and a friendly smile. Her uniform showed her curves, making her popular with the boys in class.
Victoria got tired of hearing all the whispers of her male classmates. They lacked class. They should take a page out of papa’s book.
“Okay everyone, today we’re going to work on strengthening your mana flow through your body,” Ms. Kim announced, clapping her hands to get everyone’s attention. She gestured towards the center of the gym where a clear line was drawn and balls were placed in the middle; it was dodgeball.
Her dad loved this game. He’d play with her and Kat whenever possible, and he was ruthless, never holding back. She rubbed her forehead. Many balls were not dodged—they were caught with her forehead.
The whistle blew, signaling the start of the match, and the students divided themselves into two teams, on opposing sides. The room filled with the sounds of running feet, shouting, and the occasional smack of a rubber ball hitting skin.
Victoria’s team lost. Badly. But that was okay; her mind was elsewhere, thinking about how to reconcile Lucas and Kathy.
“Hey Victoria, can’t you try harder next time? Maybe not stand in one place?” One of her classmates, a girl named Mina, said as she wiped the sweat from her brow.
Right. She needed to play the part. Nodding, she replied. “Sorry, I’m a bit distracted today.”
Mina raised her brow. “By what? You never seem distracted.”
Oh how she wished she could say that she was thinking of how to turn Lucas into her sister’s loyal puppy.
She smiled. It was better to say something boring and uninteresting. “I was worried about the test tomorrow.”
As if she ever needed to study for a test. School was too easy for her, even if her dad didn’t teach her everything he knew. But it was good to pretend.
The teams lined up again. This time, Kathy was on the opposite team. They locked eyes for a moment. Kathy looked determined, her violet eyes gleaming with a competitive spark. You’re going down, she mouthed.
Her sweet sister didn’t know she already lost. The ball flew in the air, and the game began anew.
Katherine moved fast. Her mana flowed and she dodged the incoming balls with ease, her pony-tails swishing behind her. She grabbed a ball and threw it with perfect precision, aiming at a brown haired boy on Victoria’s team who was trying to show off.
The ball hit him in the gut and he fell to the floor, gasping for air. Kat grinned as he was out.
9 players vs 10 players remaining. Victoria team was losing.
So she grabbed a ball, forcing mana through her arms and legs, she dashed forward. Her target was a girl on Kat’s team who was weak and slow, she would be easy pickings.
But before she could throw it, Kat snatched another ball and threw it at her.
Really sis.
Her sister was so rude. Victoria twisted and ducked, avoiding the ball that zoomed past her ear. With a smirk, she threw her own ball and hit the girl on Kat’s team in the back, sending her out.
9 vs 9.
The back and forth kept happening as Victoria aimed for Kat’s team and Katherine for Vic’s.
Ms. Kim watched them with a thoughtful expression, making notes on her clipboard.
One by one, the players dwindled, until only the twins were left. Panting, sweating, eyes blazing with rivalry. They stood at opposite sides of the court, each holding a ball.
No one else moved or spoke as they faced each other, the tension thick in the air.
“Kat, well done. You are really good at this game,” Vic said, her voice steady despite her racing heart.
Katherine scoffed.
Victoria had only praised her to toy with her, but she meant it. Kat was the second best after her, of course.
“Come on Vic, don’t patronize me. Let’s finish this.”
They stared at each other for a few seconds, gauging each other. Mutters could be heard from the sidelines. Everyone was wondering which twin would win.
Then they both moved. At the same time, they threw their balls at each other. It bounced off each other midair and fell to the floor. No one was out.
Grabbing another ball, Vic inhaled. All her mana rushed to her fingers, enhancing her strength and speed. Time to end it. She threw a curveball. Fast. Faster than Kathy could react. It hit her in the shoulder and she stumbled back, losing her balance. She cursed. Then she dropped to the floor. Eliminated.
The whistle blew and the class erupted in cheers and groans as the players on Vic’s team swarmed her, congratulating her. As she was heading to her locker, Ms. Kim approached her. A gentle hand touched her shoulder. “That was some impressive control you displayed out there. I haven’t seen many first years who can use their mana so efficiently.” she praised.
Vic thanked her, but her eyes were on Katherine who was staring back with an irritated look. Oh she loved teasing her sister.
“Did your Mr. Vane teach you how to do that?” Ms. Kim asked.
The question made Vic pause for a second. When they awakened, her dad was overjoyed and the first thing he taught them was how to punch with mana. He claimed they needed to know how to make a hole in a boy’s stomach. It was adorable of him.
“Yes, he taught us some basics.”
Ms. Kim nodded back, scribbling something on her clipboard. “Well, you and your sister are exceptional students. I can see you two becoming hunters of his level one day,” she said before leaving to talk to Kathy.
A flutter in Vic’s heart. A day where she would be just like her father? It sounded perfect. Together. Killing everything and everyone in their way.
Her smile turned to a grin and she went back to changing in the locker room. But Katherine beat her to it. She was already dressed and had her bag slung over her shoulder.
“I’ll win next time,” she muttered as she walked past her and went towards the exit. Vic followed her out of the school, feeling lighter.
