Chapter 7. Parking lot rendezvous. Vic POV.
Victoria managed to find a friend of Lucas Everheart. He was an older boy, a second year, and had his social media set to public. That made it easier to contact him and get Lucas’s number. But this guy was kind of creepy. He wanted to meet in person to give the number to her. So the two twins, after school, were currently waiting for the second-year student to show up.
“Vic are you sure about this? What if he’s like a psycho or something.” Katherine looked around, shifting uncomfortably on her feet.
The parking lot was empty besides a few cars and the occasional teacher walking by. The smell of mana hung in the air from the cars, creating a faint blue haze over everything.
Victoria smiled at her sister, “Every love story starts with a bit of risk and excitement dear sister.”
Katherine huffed, “Yeah, sure but this feels more like a kidnapping scene in the making.”
Just then a boy came running toward them, out of breath, his cheeks red and sweat beading down his foreheaded.
He was tall, with messy brown hair and deep brown eyes that seemed a bit too intense.
“Sorry, I’m late! Had to finish some assignments before meeting up with you.” He stopped in front of them and smiled, showing off a perfect set of white teeth. “I’m Kevin, but you can call me Kev.”
He reached out his hand for Victoria to shake.
She raised her eyebrow. The things she did for her plan. She took his hand and gave it a small shake before letting go, and making sure to rub it discreetly on her uniform. Boys had so many diseases these days.
He looked over to Katherine with the same bright smile.
“And you must be Katherine. You look just as pretty as your sister here. Wow I feel lucky today,”
Kathy crossed her arms, clearly annoyed by his attempt at compliment.
“Let’s just get this over with,” she said, looking away.
Taking out his phone, Kevin scrolled a bit before holding it up for them to see and on the screen was a group chat with Lucas Everheart. Their target was sending messages about wanting to go out and party that weekend.
“Here you go, I have his contact info right here. Why don’t you give me your phone numbers and I’ll send it to you girls?” Kevin offered, his grin turning into a smirk. He had a mischievous glint in his eye that made Victoria a bit uncomfortable.
She did not want to give her number to this weirdo, not that he was dangerous; Papa would crush him before he even got close. It was more that he was beneath her. She let Kathy do the honors.
Katherine took out her phone and they exchanged numbers, quickly typing each other’s info in before putting their phones away.
“Thanks.” Katherine said. It was curt, like she didn’t really mean it.
Kevin nodded, still smiling. “What’s the hurry? Wanna go get a drink together or something? I know a great spot nearby.”
Before Victoria could think up a way to politely refuse, a ripple in space alerted her senses. Papa. She loved her new magic if it meant she could know whenever he was watching her, which was all the time.
A moment later, Silas appeared behind Kevin with an easy smile on his face. One arm slung over Kevin’s shoulder and the other hand patting the boy’s head like he was a puppy.
“Why hello there girls. Who might this be, hmm?” Silas tilted his head to look at the second year, his voice filled with false innocence.
Noticing her dad, Katherine immediately put on a scowl. “Dad! Don’t sneak up on people like that, you could give someone a heart attack.”
He laughed and gave Kevin’s shoulder a little squeeze. “You don’t look like you’re dying, right kiddo?”
Silas emphasized that last word and Kevin paled, clearly not expecting to meet the legendary Silas Vane in such a casual setting.
“Uh h-hi Mr. Vane. Nice to meet you...” Kevin stuttered.
Heat radiated through Victoria’s chest. Oh she wanted to hug her dad so badly right now and tell him to crush this boy who had the audacity to talk to them.
But she kept her composure, smiling at Silas like a good daughter. All in due time.
“I’m just an acquaintance of the girls. They wanted some advice on school matters and I was happy to help.” Kevin said, trying to sound normal but failing as his voice cracked.
Silas hummed. “School matters huh? Well then I guess there’s no need for you to get drinks with them.” His tone was light and casual. But Victoria could see the dark glint in his eyes and giddiness filled her. This was going to be fun. Would Papa send him to the moon? Mars maybe? Or just crush his body with space.
She could barely contain her excitement. Calm. Keep it cool. Play the part of innocent daughter.
Katherine on the other hand was having none of her dad’s antics.
“Dad, stop being creepy. Go wait in the car for us, we will be there soon.” She said through gritted teeth.
Her face was as red as a tomato. A small smirk appeared on Silas’s face.
“Sure, sure. See you at the car girls,” he turned to Kevin, “Kiddo where do you live? I’ll teleport you home. Save you the trip.” He said with an innocent tone that fooled no one. Kevin gulped and nodded.
Silas wrapped an arm around the second-year student and they vanished in an instant.
Next to her, Katherine was gripping the hem of her uniform in frustration. “This is why we need to make him back off Vic. He treats us like kids and embarrasses us in front of everyone.”
Victoria nodded. “Right dad is the worst. It will be just you and Lucas this weekend. Maybe even a hotel if things go well.” She winked at her sister.
Katherine looked horrified at the thought of going to a hotel with some random guy she barely knew. “No way in hell I’m doing that Vic. A kiss at most and that is pushing it.”
Chuckling, Victoria grabbed Kathy’s arm. “Okay, whatever you say. Let’s go meet mom. She probably is already in the car too waiting for us to go home.” And just like that they both made their way to the parking lot where the sleek black car of the Vane family waited with their dad in the driver seat and their mom in the passenger.
Papa was fast. He really didn’t waste time. Victoria felt a little tingle in her heart.
She sat behind dad as Kathy took the seat behind their mom. The moment they were inside, their dad turned on the radio and drove off. The music filled the space, drowning out any chance for conversation.
Her dad had specific music he listened to depending on his mood. This upbeat song told her that he solved a problem or was close to solving one; Kevin would probably be gone before the week is over.
She tapped her fingers on her thighs according to the music. Skyscrapers turned into suburbs, and they were home before she knew it. A mansion that would make any princess envious, a fortress built on spatial magic that protected her family from any harm.
She got out of the car and made a beeline for her room, ignoring her parents’ chatter behind her. Their classic love language; dad flirting with mom as she pretends to be annoyed but really is loving every second of it.
Once inside, she locked the door with a flick of her finger and plopped onto her bed. Kicking off her shoes, revealing her white ankle socks with a cute lace trim at the top. A gift from dad of course.
Victoria reached under the pillow for her diary and flipped it open, writing about her day. She knew her dad saw everything, heard everything but that was why she wrote in her own language of circles and symbols that only she could decipher. So it didn’t matter if he spied.
As the night grew darker, Victoria changed into her comfy pajamas and laid down on the bed with a content sigh. Tomorrow would be the beginning of her plan to make Lucas and Katherine an item. And her dear, foolish Papa would have no choice but to realize his little girls were growing up and Katherine was already with another boy. But she, Victoria, would stay pure and untainted.
