Chapter 4. Where is mom?
Back in the academy, two girls were currently in front of the counselors’ office. The twins knocked lightly on the door. But their mother did not answer.
“Mom... we need to talk about dad,” Katherine muttered.
“Mom!” Victoria called a bit louder, but still no response came from the other side of the door.
Victoria tried to open the door only to find it was locked from the inside. A frown crossed her face. Was she with dad?
“Mom must be in a meeting,” she said.
Katherine scoffed, “Meeting? She just teleported somewhere with Dad, I can practically smell the lovey-dovey in the air. Ugh...they are so cringey when they do this., it’s so embarrassing.” Katherine covered her face as her face turned beet red.
Victoria smiled softly, thinking back on the many times she had walked in on their parents’ private moments. Accidentally... of course. She was a good girl after all. It just wasn’t her fault that the locks on their doors were so easy to pick.
“Vic, what is that look in your eyes?” Katherine raised an eyebrow.
Blinking innocently and walking back into the hallway to the cafeteria, she replied, “Nothing, I was just thinking how cute Mom and Dad are. We should be happy they love each other so much.”
Katherine rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, “Yeah... Sure, if you say so. Anyway, we need a plan. I’m not spending the whole year with Dad breathing down my neck in every class and embarrassing me in front of everyone. We have to do something or he will keep interfering with our lives.”
Victoria considered her sister’s words carefully before replying. She had a goal that had been set for a long time and it required a lot of patience and manipulations almost a decade full of them. So she nodded her head. “I agree, we must make him see that we are not little girls anymore but grown women. And that we don’t need to be constantly supervised by him.”
The two sisters looked at each other for a moment before Victoria’s smile turned a tad dark.
“You should try dating someone from an S-rank family. Dad will definitely back off if he sees that he can’t hurt someone from such a prestigious family without starting a war.” Her tone was sweet, almost too sweet, as if the idea had just come to her in a moment of brilliance.
Katherine avoided bumping into a student and gave her sister a skeptical look.
“Dad will just make him go poof. Dave still hasn’t returned my messages.”
Pursing her lips, Victoria thought back to Dave. Short brown hair, above average looks, bracelets. His family had a C-rank as the highest member. Yeah he was gone.
“I’ll help you this time,” she said.
“Hmm... It could work, but he needs to be cool. I won’t date a boring guy even if he’s from an S-rank family.”
Victoria’s eyes sparkled and she took out her phone, “Oh, I think I know just the right person. His name is Lucas Everheart. He's in our class. He’s from a well known family with a powerful mana lineage. Dad even humiliated him today. Yet Lucas still came back. That kind of tenacity must run in the family and you are into guys like that no?”
She looked up at her sister with an innocent expression as she showed her his picture from a website.
Katherine grabbed her phone and narrowed her eyes.
“Hmm I don’t know. He seems like a playboy, not really my type but I guess he could work if its just for getting Dad off our back.”
The school bell rung loudly through the halls. Victoria put her phone away, smoothing down her black hair. “Class is starting, let’s go. I’ll help you get his contact after class and maybe even invite him on a date with you this weekend.”
Letting out a groan, Katherine gave in. The very thought made her skin crawl but she would do anything to get her father off her back. Even if it meant dating a guy she was sure was just as insufferable as him.
Somewhere, in a courtyard a few hundred meters away, Lucas Everheart sneezed and rubbed his nose, wondering if he was coming down with a cold.
