Game of Thrones: The Wolf of Deepwood Motte

Chapter 14 CHAPTER 14

When Garon decided to come to the godswood for this meeting, he had already considered countless possibilities regarding the Three-Eyed Raven's purpose.

Perhaps the old creature had foreseen something about the future through the green sight.

Or perhaps the weirwoods had overheard some of Garon's secrets through the heart trees spread across the North.

After all, Garon had transmigrated into this world for half a year already. During that time, he naturally could not have remained idle within Deepwood Motte. Whether it was secretly training soldiers, planning for the coming War of the Five Kings, or preparing to seize influence through his marriage with Sansa Stark, he had done many things impossible for an ordinary young northern lord.

Yet what Garon never expected was that the reason the Three-Eyed Raven sought him out had nothing to do with those plans.

Instead, it was because of the blood flowing through the Glover lineage.

"King of the First Men..."

"Red-Eyed Green Seer..."

"Blood of the Children of the Forest..."

"The covenant between House Glover and the old gods..."

All these ancient stories that previously existed only in vague family legends had now appeared before his eyes personally.

Garon subconsciously raised a hand and touched his crimson eyes.

The title shouted by the illusions of the First Men continued echoing endlessly in his mind, making it impossible for his heart to calm completely.

It was not until the Three-Eyed Raven slowly walked to stand beside him that Garon finally recovered his composure.

Turning his head, he carefully examined the pale elder standing nearby.

Garon already understood that the Brynden Rivers before him was merely an illusion created through magic. The true body of the Three-Eyed Raven still remained beyond the Wall, hidden within the caves beneath the haunted forest where his flesh had long ago fused together with the roots of a weirwood tree.

Because of this, Garon was not worried the old man would suddenly attack him physically.

More importantly, after breaking free from the restraints of the illusion earlier, Garon faintly sensed something.

If he truly wished to leave...

He could probably shatter this illusion at any moment.

After a brief moment of thought, Garon calmly looked toward the Three-Eyed Raven and directly voiced every question weighing upon his mind.

"Who exactly are you?"

"What do you mean by the covenant between House Glover and the old gods?"

"And your purpose in bringing me here surely cannot be merely to show me these visions and chat idly, correct?"

The Three-Eyed Raven let out a dry and unpleasant chuckle.

"Of course not."

As his laughter faded, the old man lightly tapped the weirwood staff in his hand.

Instantly, all the surrounding illusions shattered apart like drifting smoke.

Winterfell disappeared.

The First Men vanished.

Even the Children of the Forest dissolved into green light.

The entire world around them once again returned to that endless green wilderness filled with floating phosphorescence.

Seeing this, Garon's expression immediately grew more focused.

He knew the true conversation was only beginning now.

"I am merely a messenger of the old gods," the Three-Eyed Raven slowly said while gazing at Garon with his remaining blood-red eye. "Among the Children of the Forest, my kind are called Green Seers."

"As for my original name..."

The old man revealed a strange smile.

"A name no longer possesses meaning for me."

Then his gaze deepened slightly.

"And the reason I sought you out..."

"It was only to confirm whether you are the one mentioned in the prophecy."

"Prophecy?"

Garon was visibly startled.

The answer completely exceeded his expectations.

"What prophecy?"

"The prophecy concerning the savior."

The Three-Eyed Raven spoke slowly and calmly, as though discussing something insignificant.

However, before Garon could continue questioning him, the old man shook his head slightly.

"But it is still too early to speak of such things."

Garon frowned immediately.

"Too early?"

The Three-Eyed Raven let out another strange laugh before calmly explaining.

"Although you have awakened the Green Seer bloodline sleeping within House Glover, talent alone does not equal power."

"It takes time for the green sight to mature."

"As for the answers you seek..."

"When you truly become a Green Seer, you will naturally understand everything."

Garon stood frozen in place.

Even in his wildest imagination, he had never expected the Three-Eyed Raven to say such words.

Green Seer?

Him?

Almost instantly, Bran Stark's future flashed through Garon's mind.

The broken boy who would one day become the Three-Eyed Raven.

"The position of the Three-Eyed Raven..."

"Did I somehow replace Bran?"

"No... surely not."

Garon's expression immediately became strange.

"There's no way I'll end up like Bran, breaking my legs and becoming some wheelchair king, right?"

The moment that thought surfaced, Garon's hard-earned composure nearly collapsed.

He immediately looked toward the Three-Eyed Raven once more.

"How can you be certain I possess Green Seer talent?"

"Just because of my eyes?"

The Three-Eyed Raven slowly shook his head.

"If you did not possess the green sight, you would never have been able to witness everything you saw today."

"Only those acknowledged by the old gods can respond to the call of the weirwoods."

"Only those born with the green sight can freely walk through these visions..."

However, before he could finish speaking, the green wilderness surrounding them suddenly began trembling violently.

Crack!

Fine fractures rapidly spread across the ground beneath their feet.

Garon immediately turned his head sharply.

The cracks were widening continuously.

Almost instantly, he realized the current illusion was beginning to collapse.

Sure enough, the Three-Eyed Raven frowned slightly and sighed.

"It seems our meeting must end here for tonight."

Then the old man raised his blood-red eye toward Garon.

"Descendant of Glover, if you wish to learn more, then come beyond the Wall as soon as possible."

"I believe I can assist you with the things you have been planning these past six months."

As soon as his words fell, the illusionary body of the Three-Eyed Raven suddenly dissolved apart.

In the next moment, a black raven with three eyes emerged in his place.

The raven flapped its wings and soared upward into the endless green void, leaving Garon standing silently where he was.

At the same time, space began twisting violently again.

Before his consciousness faded completely, Garon vaguely heard the Three-Eyed Raven's final whisper echoing beside his ears.

"The prophecy approaches..."

"The final movement of ice and fire is about to begin..."

As the voice gradually disappeared, darkness completely swallowed Garon's vision.

Whoosh!

When light finally returned to his eyes again, Garon's consciousness had already returned to the godswood of Winterfell.

"Damn it..."

Garon held his dizzy head and cursed inwardly.

He staggered backward several steps before collapsing heavily onto a moss-covered stone beside the black pool.

Panting deeply, he remained there for several breaths before gradually recovering.

Then Garon slowly raised his head and looked once more toward the pale face carved into the heart tree.

At this moment, his mood had become extremely complicated.

"What exactly is this savior prophecy?"

"Is it related to the Prince That Was Promised?"

"But what does any of this have to do with House Glover's covenant with the old gods?"

"And why was none of this ever passed down within the family?"

Tonight's meeting had not answered his questions.

Instead, it had only created even more mysteries.

Garon looked toward the dark heavens above the godswood and suddenly felt as though countless invisible shadows were quietly watching him from every direction.

"Green Seer..."

"The Three-Eyed Raven wants me to go beyond the Wall?"

Garon slowly stood up while rubbing his aching eyes thoughtfully.

Why did Brynden Rivers insist he travel beyond the Wall?

And what exactly did he mean when he claimed he could help with Garon's plans?

"The Children of the Forest?"

"Or perhaps the giants?"

Unfortunately, there were far too few clues available.

No matter how much Garon thought about it, he could only feel endless mysteries surrounding him from every direction.

After standing silently before the heart tree for a long while, Garon finally took a deep breath and forcibly suppressed all distracting thoughts within his mind.

"No matter what prophecy exists."

"And no matter what schemes the Three-Eyed Raven may have."

"It changes nothing."

"My most important goal right now remains exactly the same."

"I must secure the marriage with Sansa Stark."

Once his thoughts stabilized again, Garon looked deeply at the face carved into the heart tree one final time.

Then he stepped back slightly, bowed according to northern custom, and turned to leave the godswood.

After Garon departed, the red eyes carved upon the weirwood seemed to stare silently at his retreating figure.

A cold wind suddenly swept through the grove.

The leaves rustled softly.

It almost sounded like the whisper of an ancient prayer.

Garon returned far faster than he had entered.

Within only a short time, he emerged once more from the iron gates of the godswood.

Seeing the familiar burning torches outside, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Perhaps because of everything that had happened tonight, Garon suddenly felt overwhelming exhaustion spreading through his eyes, accompanied by intense drowsiness.

Without lingering any longer, he quickly followed the corridor back toward his temporary chambers.

After entering the room, Garon closed the door behind him and threw himself directly onto the bed.

Almost instantly, a powerful wave of sleepiness engulfed him completely.

He barely managed to remove his outer clothing before falling into deep sleep.

After an unknown amount of time passed, a Three-Eyed Raven once more appeared within Garon's dream.

The black raven spread its wings and soared endlessly through the sky, silently guiding Garon toward some unknown destination.

They crossed mountains.

They flew beyond the Wall.

They entered the Land of Always Winter.

Just as Garon followed behind the raven through endless snowstorms, a terrifying vision suddenly unfolded before him.

Countless twisted roots burst forth from the void and instantly pierced through his body from every direction.

At the exact same moment, two enormous dragons descended from the heavens.

One dragon breathed blazing fire.

The other unleashed endless frost.

Ice and flame engulfed the roots piercing through Garon's body simultaneously, drowning everything within a terrifying torrent of destruction.

Meanwhile, the Three-Eyed Raven silently flapped its wings overhead, quietly observing the entire scene.

As though everything had long ago been predetermined.
