Chapter 258: Undercurrents Surging!
Naruto stopped in front of the women's bathhouse and stared at Jiraiya.
Jiraiya, meanwhile, had already slipped toward the side of the building.
He pressed himself against the wall and craned his neck toward a narrow opening, trying to peer inside with the concentration of a Shinobi carrying out an S Rank mission.
Naruto's expression slowly darkened.
"Master."
No response.
Jiraiya adjusted his position.
"Master."
Still nothing.
Naruto walked closer.
"You aren't seriously telling me that the training you mentioned was bringing me here to spy on the women's bathhouse, are you?"
Jiraiya finally glanced back.
"Of course not."
Naruto looked at his current posture.
Jiraiya coughed.
"I forgot to mention that I'm also a writer."
He gestured vaguely toward the bathhouse.
"I came here to gather material for my work."
Naruto stared at him.
"As for your training, we can deal with that later."
Jiraiya waved dismissively.
"You've been working hard enough. Learn to relax a little."
Naruto was silent for several seconds.
Then he nodded.
"I see."
Jiraiya smiled and returned his attention to the bathhouse.
Naruto took a step back.
"Sorry, but I can't accept that explanation."
Jiraiya blinked.
"What?"
Naruto cupped his hands around his mouth.
"Someone is spying on the women's bathhouse!"
Jiraiya's face changed instantly.
"You brat!"
Screams erupted from inside.
"What?!"
"A peeping tom?!"
"Where?!"
The peaceful atmosphere shattered.
Women hurried away from the area while angry voices rose from behind the walls.
Jiraiya stared in horror as his precious source of inspiration vanished.
Then he slowly turned toward Naruto.
"You…"
Naruto smiled pleasantly.
Jiraiya clutched his chest.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?"
"I stopped someone from spying on a bathhouse."
"My material!"
Jiraiya pointed accusingly toward the now deserted area.
"All the material I worked so hard to find is gone!"
Naruto ignored the complaint.
"So, Perverted Sage."
Jiraiya's eyebrow twitched.
"Can we start training now?"
"What training?"
Jiraiya turned away with an offended snort.
"You ruined my inspiration."
"I need to find somewhere else to gather material."
He started walking.
"A writer cannot survive without inspiration, and beautiful women are indispensable to my creative process."
Naruto watched him leave.
For the first time since meeting his new master, he wondered whether Sasuke's suspicion had been completely justified.
Still, he followed.
Inside Naruto's mind, Asuramaru spoke.
"Your approach is too rigid."
Naruto frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"As long as you don't lose sight of your purpose, there is always another solution."
Naruto had a bad feeling.
Asuramaru continued.
"He wants beautiful women."
"Yes…"
"You know the Transformation Technique."
Naruto nearly stopped walking.
"Asuramaru."
"What?"
"You can't seriously be suggesting what I think you are."
"Why not?"
Naruto's moral instincts immediately rebelled.
"Because that's…"
He struggled to find the right word.
"Wrong?"
Asuramaru sounded completely unconcerned.
"Do you want to become stronger?"
Naruto hesitated.
"Of course."
"Then use the resources available to you."
Asuramaru glanced toward Jiraiya through Naruto's senses.
"That man is strong."
"Very strong."
"He knows techniques that can help you improve considerably."
Naruto's expression became conflicted.
The logic was annoyingly sound.
Ahead of him, Jiraiya was also quietly observing Naruto from the corner of his eye.
He was curious to see what the boy would do.
After walking in silence for a while, Naruto finally spoke.
"Master."
Jiraiya glanced back.
"What?"
Naruto's expression was unusually serious.
"If I can find the kind of women you like…"
Jiraiya stopped.
Naruto continued.
"Will you actually train me?"
Jiraiya immediately understood that something interesting was about to happen.
Still, he crossed his arms and pretended not to care.
"That depends."
"Depends on what?"
"Quality."
Naruto sighed.
He formed a hand seal.
Poof!
White smoke covered his body.
Jiraiya stared.
A moment later, the smoke parted.
Standing where Naruto had been was the transformed figure of a beautiful young woman, her body strategically concealed by drifting mist.
She lowered her gaze shyly.
Jiraiya's eyes widened.
Then he appeared directly in front of Naruto with startling speed.
"Perfect!"
Naruto almost broke the transformation from sheer discomfort.
Jiraiya examined the technique with open admiration.
"This is exactly my type!"
He pointed at Naruto excitedly.
"You pass!"
Naruto looked away awkwardly.
Jiraiya's excitement only grew.
"What technique is this?"
Naruto hesitated.
"Sexy Jutsu."
Jiraiya froze.
Then his face lit up.
"Sexy Jutsu…"
He repeated the name with reverence.
"What a magnificent technique."
Naruto stared at him.
Jiraiya slapped him on the shoulder.
"To invent something like this at your age…"
His expression became solemn.
"Naruto, you really are a genius."
Naruto had never felt less proud of being called one.
Jiraiya grinned.
"Fine."
"We'll start training."
Naruto immediately brightened.
Then Jiraiya added,
"But you should use this form more often from now on."
Naruto's smile disappeared.
He stood there for a moment.
Then sighed.
"All right."
Once a person crossed a certain line, Naruto discovered, the second step was strangely easier.
Jiraiya laughed.
"Excellent."
He turned.
"Come with me."
This time he genuinely led Naruto toward a training ground.
They left the village streets and entered the forest behind Konoha.
After travelling for some distance, Jiraiya found a spacious clearing and stopped.
Naruto dispelled Sexy Jutsu.
Poof!
He returned to normal.
Jiraiya looked mildly disappointed but quickly became serious.
"Before I decide what to teach you, I need to know exactly how strong you are."
Naruto nodded.
Jiraiya stepped back.
"Attack me."
Naruto blinked.
"With everything I have?"
Jiraiya smiled confidently.
"Everything."
Naruto was also curious about the strength of the man Hiruzen had personally chosen as his master.
He reached into his ninja tool pouch.
Several three pronged kunai appeared between his fingers.
He crossed them in front of himself.
"Then please excuse me."
Jiraiya's casual expression vanished the moment he saw the weapons.
Those kunai…
He knew that shape.
Minato.
His eyes immediately sharpened.
So this was what the old man meant when he said Naruto would surprise him?
Naruto threw the kunai.
They scattered across the clearing.
Then he vanished.
Flash!
Golden light crossed Jiraiya's vision.
His eyes widened.
"No way…"
Naruto disappeared from one marked kunai and appeared beside another.
Flash.
Flash.
Flash.
Jiraiya nearly forgot to move.
"Flying Thunder God?!"
Minato's most famous technique.
A Space Time Ninjutsu so difficult that almost no one else had ever mastered it.
And Naruto was using it at twelve years old.
For a moment, Jiraiya genuinely wondered whether Hiruzen had undersold the boy.
Minato had already been a once in a generation genius.
But Naruto…
Could he actually surpass his father?
A thought flashed through Jiraiya's mind.
The Child of Prophecy.
Could Naruto be the one he had spent so many years searching for?
He had no time to think further.
A golden flash appeared before him.
Naruto's hand was already extended.
An azure sphere of rotating chakra spun in his palm.
Jiraiya's eyes widened again.
"Rasengan too?!"
Naruto thrust it toward him.
Jiraiya vanished with Body Flicker.
Boom!
The Rasengan struck the ground.
Earth burst upward.
Dust filled the clearing.
Jiraiya appeared several metres away and immediately raised one hand.
"Stop!"
Naruto emerged from the smoke.
He did not pursue.
Instead, he retrieved his three pronged kunai and stored them away in his Independent Space.
Then he looked at Jiraiya.
"Can we start training now?"
Jiraiya stared at him.
Flying Thunder God.
Rasengan.
Excellent chakra control.
Outstanding combat instincts.
And the boy was still twelve.
Excitement gradually replaced his shock.
"Of course."
Jiraiya grinned.
"With your current strength, there's little point wasting time on ordinary ninjutsu."
Naruto listened carefully.
"So I'm going to teach you something more useful."
Jiraiya bit his thumb and held up his hand.
"The Summoning Technique."
Naruto's eyes showed interest.
"Summoning?"
"Exactly."
Jiraiya nodded.
"It allows a Shinobi to form a contract with powerful creatures and summon them into battle."
"Ninja beasts?"
"That's one way to think of it."
Naruto looked thoughtful.
Jiraiya smiled.
"If you master it properly, a strong summon can completely change the outcome of a battle."
Another thought lingered in Jiraiya's mind.
Naruto was still young.
There was no need to rush everything at once.
But once the boy matured a little more, Jiraiya intended to take him to Mount Myōboku.
If Naruto possessed the aptitude, he could learn Sage Mode.
And while they were there, Jiraiya might also have an opportunity to speak with the Great Toad Sage.
Perhaps he could finally learn whether Naruto truly had anything to do with the prophecy.
Naruto nodded.
"I understand."
Under Jiraiya's guidance, his training in the Summoning Technique began.
Inside him, however, Asuramaru was thinking about something entirely different.
"Summoning…"
His gaze shifted toward the vast collection of beings and abilities recorded within his domain.
If Naruto could use a summoning system from this world…
Could Asuramaru adapt it?
Could he summon one of the powerful existences preserved within his domain?
His thoughts stopped on one particular figure.
Mahoraga.
Asuramaru's lips curved upward.
Using Mahoraga as a summoned beast…
Now that would be interesting.
Elsewhere, far from the training ground, Orochimaru had already changed his appearance.
Through the fragment of himself contained within Sasuke's Cursed Seal, he had managed to gather more information from the strange mental world connected to Asuramaru.
And one discovery mattered above all others.
Asuramaru.
The ancient deity worshiped by the Uzumaki Clan.
Orochimaru's eyes gleamed.
So that was the identity behind the mysterious sword.
If Asuramaru truly was the god revered by the Uzumaki of old, then his claim about immortality could not be dismissed as empty boasting.
The thought made Orochimaru's blood burn with excitement.
Immortality.
A superior method.
A mysterious entity capable of controlling Naruto's body.
Techniques Orochimaru had never seen.
A sword capable of harming the soul.
His tongue slowly passed across his lips.
"Asuramaru…"
A disturbing smile spread across his face.
"I will obtain you."
Deep beneath Konoha, another man was making plans of his own.
Root headquarters remained buried in darkness.
Danzō stood before several masked operatives.
The Root Shinobi knelt silently before him.
He looked down at them.
"Find an opportunity."
His voice was cold and emotionless.
"Bring Uzumaki Naruto to me."
None questioned the order.
"Yes, Lord Danzō."
The Root operatives vanished into the darkness one after another.
Soon, Danzō stood alone.
His expression remained grim.
Hiruzen had refused him.
But Danzō had never believed that the Hokage always knew what was best for the village.
Naruto possessed the Nine Tails.
Flying Thunder God.
Extraordinary talent.
And powers even Hiruzen did not fully understand.
Such strength could not be allowed to develop beyond control.
Danzō closed his visible eye.
"Everything I do…"
His voice echoed quietly through the underground chamber.
"Is for Konoha."
