Chapter 239: Mastering the Flying Thunder God!
Naruto studied Sasuke's serious expression for a moment.
There was no mockery in those dark eyes. Sasuke genuinely wanted another fight.
Naruto found it difficult to refuse.
"All right."
He glanced toward the nearest training grounds.
"Should we use one of the public training fields?"
Sasuke shook his head.
"Follow me."
Without explaining further, he turned and walked away.
Naruto followed.
Sakura, who had been lingering nearby, hesitated before hurrying after the two.
Unfortunately for her, Naruto and Sasuke moved far faster than she expected.
After several turns through Konoha and a quick passage through the surrounding woods, she completely lost sight of them.
Sakura stopped in the middle of the road and looked around helplessly.
"Where did they go?"
Elsewhere, Sasuke led Naruto to a secluded training ground hidden within the forest near the former Uchiha Clan compound.
The place was quiet and rarely visited.
Sasuke stepped into the clearing and turned around.
"Here."
His eyes changed.
Crimson replaced black.
A single tomoe revolved within each Sharingan.
Sasuke drew a kunai and lowered his stance.
There was no trace of hesitation now.
Naruto smiled.
"So you're serious this time."
He reached into his ninja tool pouch and drew a kunai of his own.
"Then watch out."
Naruto moved.
Sasuke's Sharingan immediately tracked him.
He could see Naruto's approach.
He could see the angle of the kunai.
He could even predict the next motion.
The problem was his body.
It could not keep up.
Clang!
Their kunai collided.
Sasuke blocked the first strike.
Naruto twisted his wrist and attacked again.
Clang!
Another block.
Then a kick came toward Sasuke's ribs.
He barely raised an arm in time.
The impact sent him sliding across the ground.
Sasuke gritted his teeth.
His Sharingan could follow everything.
That only made the difference more frustrating.
He knew exactly what Naruto was doing.
He simply could not respond quickly enough.
Naruto pressed forward.
Sasuke was forced back again and again.
Kunai flashed between them.
Their feet tore through dirt and scattered leaves.
Then Naruto slipped through Sasuke's defense and kicked him squarely in the chest.
Sasuke flew backward.
He twisted in the air and landed on his feet.
Before Naruto could close the distance again, Sasuke's hands were already moving.
Tiger.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
Sasuke inhaled.
Then a huge mass of fire erupted from his mouth.
Flames surged through the clearing.
Naruto looked at the approaching fireball.
Too slow.
He jumped.
His body cleared the flames completely.
Heat rushed beneath him.
Naruto descended gracefully behind Sasuke.
Before Sasuke could turn, Naruto's right hand settled lightly on his shoulder.
"You lose."
Sasuke froze.
The fight was over.
Again.
And the difference had been overwhelming.
Sasuke slowly lowered his kunai.
His Sharingan faded.
For several seconds, he remained silent.
Then he turned toward Naruto.
"Naruto."
His voice was unusually serious.
"Tell me how to become stronger."
Naruto blinked.
Sasuke continued before he could answer.
"Whatever you want in return, I'll give it to you."
"As long as it's something I can provide."
Naruto had not expected that.
He looked at Sasuke more carefully.
Then he remembered what had happened to the Uchiha Clan.
Sasuke was alone.
Just like him.
The difference was that Sasuke had once possessed a family, only to lose all of them in a single night.
Naruto understood why he was desperate for strength.
"My training methods might not suit you."
Sasuke said nothing.
Naruto smiled.
"But if you still want to learn, I'll help."
Sasuke's expression eased slightly.
Naruto added casually, "As for payment, you can treat me to ramen."
Sasuke frowned.
"That's it?"
"Yeah."
Sasuke immediately rejected the idea.
"No."
Naruto raised an eyebrow.
Sasuke looked away slightly.
"If you teach me your methods, then I'll teach you the secret techniques of the Uchiha Clan."
"That way, neither of us owes the other anything."
Naruto understood immediately.
Pride.
Sasuke did not want charity.
Naruto shrugged.
"Fine by me."
The two began training.
Naruto created a Shadow Clone to spar with Sasuke and guide him through combat.
The original Naruto walked beneath a nearby tree and sat down cross legged.
He began refining chakra.
His consciousness sank inward.
Once again, he entered the mental world.
The Flying Thunder God training he had left unfinished was still waiting for him.
Hours passed.
Outside, Sasuke fought Naruto's Shadow Clone repeatedly.
Inside, Naruto continued studying space under Asuramaru's guidance.
By the time evening arrived, both boys had trained until they were exhausted.
Naruto released his Shadow Clone.
Its memories returned to him at once.
Then he and Sasuke left the training ground.
As promised, Sasuke treated him to ramen.
After eating together, the two separated and returned to their respective homes.
Naruto did not rest.
The moment he reached his apartment, he resumed training.
Day and night.
Whenever his body needed rest, he trained within the mental world.
Whenever his consciousness returned outside, he refined chakra or practiced what he had learned.
Asuramaru saw every bit of it.
Even Kurama, who had once regarded Naruto as nothing more than his hated Jinchūriki, gradually began paying more attention to the boy.
Naruto's persistence was difficult to ignore.
Within the mental world, Naruto sat quietly with his eyes closed.
Asuramaru stood nearby.
"Do not think of space as empty distance."
Naruto listened.
"Feel the position of everything around you."
"The ground beneath you."
"The air around you."
"The point you occupy."
"And then the point you want to reach."
Naruto's chakra moved slowly.
His perception expanded.
At first there was nothing.
Then something changed.
Naruto's brows tightened.
He sensed it.
Not with his eyes.
Not with ordinary physical awareness.
Something deeper.
The relationship between one position and another.
The invisible structure separating two points.
Naruto's eyes opened.
His face lit up.
"I felt it!"
Asuramaru looked at him.
Naruto jumped to his feet.
"I really felt it, Asuramaru!"
He could barely contain his excitement.
"I did it!"
Asuramaru gave a small nod.
"Not bad."
Naruto froze.
Then his grin became enormous.
Actual praise.
From Asuramaru.
Asuramaru continued before Naruto could celebrate too much.
"You've only taken the first step."
"You need to become proficient with it as quickly as possible."
Naruto nodded hard.
"Got it!"
Rather than stopping, his enthusiasm only increased.
He trained until dawn.
When Naruto finally returned to consciousness, morning light was already entering his apartment.
He sat up and immediately reached for his ninja tool pouch.
Naruto emptied every kunai onto the floor.
Now that he had grasped the foundation of Flying Thunder God, he needed marked coordinates.
He picked up the first kunai.
Then paused.
The Flying Thunder God formula needed to be uniquely his.
Naruto thought for a while.
Eventually, a smile appeared.
He began inscribing the mark.
Four characters.
Asuramaru.
Naruto looked at the finished formula with satisfaction.
Then he marked the remaining kunai one by one.
Once everything was prepared, he returned them to his pouch, washed up, and headed for the Ninja Academy.
Today, Team 7 would meet its Jonin instructor.
By the time Naruto arrived, several teams had already gathered.
One after another, Jonin instructors came to collect their Genin.
Eventually, every team had left.
Every team except Team 7.
Naruto remained seated calmly.
Sasuke waited in silence nearby.
Sakura sat not far away, her eyes repeatedly moving between the two boys.
Her expression was becoming increasingly affectionate.
Naruto noticed.
He shifted slightly in his seat.
For some reason, Sakura's gaze made him uncomfortable.
Perhaps Asuramaru was partly responsible.
Naruto had spent most of his life looking at Asuramaru's extraordinarily beautiful appearance.
At this point, ordinary beauty had very little effect on him.
The classroom remained quiet.
Then the door finally opened.
A tall man wearing a green flak jacket stepped inside.
Silver hair pointed upward from his head.
His forehead protector covered his left eye.
A dark mask concealed the lower half of his face.
Kakashi Hatake.
He looked over the three Genin.
"Looks like everyone is here."
After a brief pause, he continued.
"Let's start with introductions."
Sakura blinked.
"Introductions?"
"Yes."
Kakashi gestured vaguely.
"Things you like."
"Things you hate."
"Your hobbies."
"Your dreams for the future."
"Something like that."
Sakura immediately frowned.
"But we don't know anything about you either."
Kakashi considered that.
"Fair enough."
He pointed to himself.
"I'm Kakashi Hatake."
"I don't particularly feel like telling you what I like or dislike."
"As for my dreams..."
He paused.
"I have several."
"And my hobbies are also none of your concern."
Silence followed.
Naruto stared at him.
So he had basically introduced nothing except his name.
Kakashi ignored their expressions.
"Now it's your turn."
His visible eye shifted toward Naruto.
Naruto spoke first.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto."
He remained calm.
"I don't have many hobbies."
"There are plenty of things I dislike, but what I hate most is war."
His expression became serious.
"My dream is to become Hokage."
"And after that, I'll change this world with my own hands."
Kakashi's visible eye widened slightly.
For an instant, the boy sitting before him overlapped with someone from his memories.
Blond hair.
Blue eyes.
That steady conviction.
Minato sensei.
Kakashi remained silent for a moment before shifting his attention toward Sakura.
Sakura began her introduction.
Whenever she mentioned something she liked, however, her eyes kept drifting toward Naruto and Sasuke.
Kakashi watched the obvious movements.
His eye grew increasingly tired.
When Sakura finally finished, it was Sasuke's turn.
Sasuke sat with his hands clasped in front of his mouth.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke."
His voice remained cold.
"There isn't anything I particularly like."
"There are many things I hate."
He paused.
"And what I have is not a dream."
His eyes sharpened.
"It is something I will make reality."
"I will restore the Uchiha Clan."
"And I will kill that man with my own hands."
Naruto looked at Sasuke quietly.
He understood.
Kakashi, however, gave no visible reaction.
Once all three had finished, he stood.
"Well."
"You certainly have distinct personalities."
He turned toward the door.
"Tomorrow will be your final test."
Sakura immediately looked confused.
"Final test?"
Kakashi nodded.
"If you fail, you'll be sent back to the Ninja Academy."
The atmosphere changed.
"Meet me at the training ground at five tomorrow morning."
He paused at the doorway.
"And don't eat breakfast."
Then he disappeared.
The room fell silent.
A moment later, Sasuke stood.
He walked directly toward Naruto.
"Let's go."
Naruto looked up.
Sasuke's expression was already serious.
"I'm ready to continue."
Naruto smiled slightly.
"All right."
The two left the classroom together.
Sakura remained seated.
She stared after them.
Then she stood abruptly.
"What is going on with those two?!"
The next morning arrived quickly.
Five o'clock.
The training ground was still covered in the cool darkness of early dawn.
Naruto sat quietly on the ground, refining chakra as usual.
Sasuke and Sakura waited nearby.
Inside Naruto, Asuramaru was already looking forward to what was about to happen.
Naruto possessed strength at the Jonin level.
Now he had also begun mastering Flying Thunder God.
Taking Kakashi's bells should be effortless.
Asuramaru almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
He was far more interested in seeing Kakashi's reaction.
A little shock from Naruto would do him good.
Of course, once Naruto revealed this much talent, the information would eventually reach Konoha's higher authorities.
Danzō would almost certainly become restless.
But as long as Hiruzen remained Hokage, he should be able to keep the old schemer under control.
After all, Naruto's talent could no longer be described as merely impressive.
At twelve years old, he had already begun mastering the technique that had made Minato Namikaze famous throughout the Shinobi World.
In terms of sheer talent...
Naruto had already surpassed his father.
