Chapter 169: Daily Bickering
Time slipped by like a passing shadow.
In the blink of an eye, several days had passed.
During this period, Sonic arrived alone at the Ghost Town of Z City. In only a few days, he had already slain more than a dozen Monsters in succession.
The effect was obvious.
Every kill brought power.
Every Monster that fell made his body stronger.
Feeling the abundant strength surging through his limbs, Sonic could not suppress the excitement in his heart. It was addictive. The growth was real, clear, and immediate.
However, even in the Ghost Town, finding Monsters was not as easy as he had imagined.
After spending an entire morning searching, Sonic had not found even a single target.
His mood gradually worsened.
Walking through the deserted streets, he asked the sword on his back through his mind.
"Hey. If I kill one more Monster, I can unlock Thousand Fragments, right?"
Asuramaru's voice soon rang in his mind.
"That depends on the strength of the Monster you kill. According to this world's so called disaster levels, it has to be at least Demon level."
Sonic's face darkened.
"Shut up. Hurry up and find a Monster for me."
Asuramaru answered just as irritably.
"Who do you think you're ordering around? Fix your attitude first."
The two immediately fell into their usual daily bickering.
But before the argument could continue, Asuramaru changed the subject.
"Head east. There's a Monster fighting over there."
"It's finally here."
Sonic adjusted his condition in an instant.
The next second, his figure vanished silently from the street.
A few blocks away, a battle was already underway.
On one side of a dilapidated street, an unconscious man lay on the ground.
In the middle of the road stood a middle aged man in a green suit. He held a rapier in one hand, his mustache neatly trimmed despite the battle.
A Class Rank 33 Hero.
Spring Mustachio.
He stared at the Monster in front of him.
It was pitch black from head to toe, with a mass of seaweed growing from its head like countless writhing tentacles.
Spring Mustachio lowered his voice and asked, "I'm a little curious. Were you born in this Ghost Town?"
The Monster answered calmly.
"I came from outside. I heard there were plenty of super powerful Monsters here."
It lifted its head slightly.
"But now it seems rumors are only rumors after all."
Then, with a hint of amusement, it continued, "Still, it wouldn't be bad if I became the one to fulfill that role. The Monster of the Ghost Town. Doesn't that sound cool?"
The moment it finished speaking, the seaweed on its head shot forward like tentacles.
Each strand was as hard as steel.
When swung all at once, they lashed toward Spring Mustachio from every direction.
Spring Mustachio could only hold his sword with one hand and toss aside the transceiver he had just used to call for backup.
Then he met the Monster head on.
By the time Sonic arrived, Spring Mustachio was already lying on the ground, covered in wounds.
The seaweed Monster stood nearby, still complaining to itself.
"How boring. I finally defeated two heroes, and neither of them even screamed."
It looked around the empty street.
"But there doesn't seem to be anyone here anyway. Maybe I should head straight to the residential area and start killing there..."
Before it could finish, Sonic seized the opening.
He appeared behind the Monster.
The cracked sword left its sheath.
Without the slightest hesitation, Sonic slashed at its neck.
But the Monster sensed the danger.
The seaweed on its head wrapped around its body in an instant, blocking the strike.
At the same time, the strands behind it launched a counterattack.
Before they could touch him, Sonic vanished.
He reappeared on the only intact stretch of street nearby.
Holding the sword in one hand, Sonic looked at the seaweed Monster with killing intent in his eyes.
The Monster stared at the several severed strands of seaweed in front of it.
For the first time, its previous calm disappeared.
"Another hero?"
Its tone became cautious.
"But you're much stronger than those two. You must be very famous in the human world. If I kill you, many people will know me..."
Sonic interrupted it coldly.
"You dodged my strike by instinct?"
His eyes narrowed.
"Fine. With the next move, I'll take your head."
The seaweed Monster did not care at all.
Instead, it provoked him further.
"If you can do it, then let's see who's faster."
Sonic let out a cold laugh.
"Pathetic."
His figure lowered.
"As expected, Monsters really aren't that bright."
The moment his voice fell, he vanished from where he stood.
So fast.
The Monster could not see him at all.
Only now did it truly understand Sonic's speed.
Unable to follow his movements, it could only control the seaweed on its head and wrap every strand tightly around its body.
In the next instant, the cracked sword appeared before it again.
The strike aimed straight for its neck.
But the moment Sonic attacked, the seaweed Monster found its chance.
"Got you!"
The strands gathered around its sides instantly pierced forward.
Seeing the familiar tactic, even Sonic could not help mocking it.
"Looks like you're even dumber than Hammerhead."
With a thought, the incoming seaweed stopped in midair.
The Monster's eyes widened.
Before it could react, Sonic's sword swept through its neck.
The Monster's head flew.
At the moment of death, its pupils trembled violently.
It never understood what had happened to its seaweed.
Inside the sword, the system prompt rang in Asuramaru's mind.
[Ding! Intense negative emotions detected from Demon level Monster Kombu Infinity before death. Gained 40,000 emotion points!]
[This kill obtained 20,000 Demon Power. Fifty percent will be fed back to Sword Master Sonic.]
As the system prompt faded, Sonic once again felt an overwhelming enhancement surge through his body.
This time, the effect was far greater than before.
Strength filled him.
His muscles, nerves, senses, and reflexes all seemed to sharpen at the same time.
"With my current power..."
Sonic clenched his fist, his eyes shining.
"I can definitely defeat Saitama with ease."
What answered him was Asuramaru's merciless blow.
"Are you always this confident?"
His tone was full of disdain.
"That man is not someone the current you can compare to. If we're making a simple comparison, you're still pathetically weak, Sonic."
Sonic's expression turned gloomy.
"Shut up."
His voice was cold.
"If I can't beat him now, then I'll keep hunting Monsters and getting stronger until I can."
He glanced around the ruined street.
"Hurry up and locate the next Monster for me."
As he spoke, his gaze shifted to the two unconscious A Class Heroes.
After weighing the pros and cons, Sonic ultimately chose not to kill them.
Instead, he looked down at the sword in his hand.
With a single thought, the sword shattered into countless fragments.
Every fragment hovered in the air, controlled freely by his will.
"So this is Thousand Fragments?"
At that moment, a thought emerged in Sonic's mind.
All offense, no defense.
For others, that might not necessarily be an advantage.
But for a ninja who specialized in speed like him, it was the perfect weapon.
With another thought, the fragments gathered together again, reforming into a sword.
Sonic sheathed it behind his back.
Feeling his body grow stronger once more, he revealed a wicked smile.
"Saitama..."
His eyes burned with obsession.
"Wash your neck and wait for me."
