I Became a Demon Sword and Traveled the Anime Worlds

Chapter 272: Oh No, I've Become a Third Wheel!

Golden light flashed across the sealing platform.

Naruto appeared directly in front of Shion.

Ryūjin Jakka left its sheath.

His breathing changed.

Flames burst along the sword.

"Hinokami Kagura: Dance!"

Naruto stepped forward and slashed.

The burning edge passed cleanly through Mōryō's neck.

For a moment, the demon did not even understand what had happened.

Then its head separated from the human body it possessed.

It struck the stone floor.

Shion stared in stunned silence.

Mōryō had just finished boasting about devouring her.

Now it had been decapitated before it could even react.

But Naruto did not relax.

The headless body remained standing.

A twisted roar erupted from it.

"Aaaaaagh!"

Black energy churned violently around the severed neck.

"My soul!"

Mōryō's voice echoed throughout the cavern.

"That sword…"

"You can actually wound my soul!"

Naruto's eyes sharpened.

Ryūjin Jakka was doing exactly what he had hoped.

Mōryō had possessed a human vessel, but its true existence was spiritual.

Ordinary physical destruction alone might not have been enough.

Ryūjin Jakka was different.

Its attacks reached the soul itself.

Mōryō roared in fury.

"Unforgivable!"

Naruto did not give it time to recover.

He moved.

Slash!

Another strike tore through the torso.

Then another.

Ryūjin Jakka flashed repeatedly.

The human body Mōryō had possessed was cut apart until almost nothing recognizable remained.

Shion could only stare.

Then Asuramaru's voice reached Naruto.

"Naruto."

Naruto immediately stopped.

"What?"

"Its soul has already left that body."

Naruto looked down.

A mass of pitch black energy suddenly erupted from the mangled remains.

It twisted through the air like smoke given life.

Before Naruto could intercept it, the dark presence plunged toward the open passage beneath the sealing platform.

Mōryō's furious voice echoed behind it.

"Damn you, Shinobi!"

"You think that pathetic sword can stop me?!"

Asuramaru's expression darkened inside Ryūjin Jakka.

Mōryō continued roaring.

"No one can prevent my resurrection!"

The black soul disappeared underground.

"Return to me…"

"My body!"

The instant Mōryō vanished into the passage, the barrier surrounding the sealing platform collapsed.

Then the entire cavern shook.

Rumble!

Shion nearly lost her footing.

Naruto moved without hesitation.

He grabbed her.

Flash!

Flying Thunder God activated.

Both disappeared from the sealing platform.

They reappeared near the corridor where they had entered the cavern.

Naruto released Shion and immediately turned toward the depths of the shrine.

"Stay here."

Shion stared at him.

Naruto continued.

"Be careful."

"I'm going back to finish Mōryō."

Shion finally seemed to awaken from her daze.

Then her expression broke.

Tears filled her eyes.

"Why…"

Naruto stopped.

Shion's shoulders trembled.

"Why did you save me?"

Her voice cracked.

"I didn't do anything."

Naruto turned toward her.

Shion lowered her head.

"The sealing failed."

"Mōryō still reached his body."

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"All those people who died protecting me…"

Her breathing became uneven.

"They died for nothing."

"If I can't seal Mōryō…"

She clenched her hands.

"Then what was the point?"

"What value did their deaths have?"

Her voice became smaller.

"And what value do I have…"

"To deserve anyone protecting me?"

Naruto looked at her quietly.

Then he stepped closer.

Shion raised her head.

Naruto reached out and gently pressed one finger against her forehead.

She froze.

Naruto smiled.

"Who said we lost?"

Shion stared at him.

Naruto's blue eyes were clear.

"Remember our promise?"

She said nothing.

Naruto continued.

"I staked my Way of the Ninja on it."

"We will not lose."

His smile widened.

"Mōryō is still alive."

"So I'll defeat him."

"That's all."

Shion's lips trembled.

The despair that had been consuming her slowly loosened its grip.

"But…"

She looked toward the cavern.

"This is where you die."

Naruto interrupted her before she could continue.

"I'm not dying."

Shion looked back at him.

Naruto grinned.

"I haven't become Hokage yet."

"So death can wait."

Shion stared at him for several seconds.

Her breathing gradually steadied.

Inside Ryūjin Jakka, Asuramaru paid little attention to their conversation.

Something else had caught his interest.

A presence.

Hidden.

Deep within the volcanic rock.

Asuramaru narrowed his eyes.

Someone was watching.

The chakra was concealed extremely well.

Asuramaru searched his memories.

Could it be White Zetsu?

Or perhaps Black Zetsu?

Either possibility was troublesome.

Naruto's growth had become impossible to ignore.

Flying Thunder God.

Ryūjin Jakka.

His connection to Asuramaru.

His rapid rise into the Kage level.

If Black Zetsu and Obito were already observing him from the shadows, then information about Naruto's current strength was beginning to spread among forces that had remained hidden until now.

Still, Asuramaru was not worried.

If they came, he would deal with them.

"Naruto."

Naruto responded inwardly.

"What is it?"

"There is someone inside the volcanic rock wall to your right."

Naruto's expression barely changed.

"Inside the wall?"

"Yes."

Naruto glanced toward the rock from the corner of his eye.

"Some kind of special ninjutsu?"

"Possibly."

Before Naruto could investigate further, the entire volcano shook again.

Boom!

A massive surge of pitch black chakra erupted from underground.

Shion stepped back.

Naruto immediately moved in front of her.

The dark energy poured upward.

Then shapes emerged within it.

Heads.

Long monstrous necks.

Dragon like faces formed from thick black sludge.

One after another, they rose from the darkness.

A roar shook the cavern.

"I have returned!"

Mōryō's voice thundered from every head.

"After all these years…"

"I am finally whole again!"

Black chakra flooded the chamber.

"I will rule this world once more!"

The dragon heads writhed above the lava.

"A thousand year empire will rise beneath me!"

Then every head turned toward Naruto.

The excitement in Mōryō's voice became hatred.

"But first…"

"I will destroy that pathetic sword in your hand!"

Inside Ryūjin Jakka, Asuramaru's eye twitched.

Again.

Pathetic sword.

Mōryō seemed determined to repeat those words until one of them died.

The dragon heads attacked.

Several descended at once.

Naruto immediately formed a hand seal.

"Multiple Shadow Clone Technique!"

Poof!

Two Shadow Clones appeared beside him.

Naruto did not even need to explain.

One clone swept Shion into his arms.

The other moved alongside him.

Together, they rushed toward the corridor.

Shion struggled slightly.

"Naruto!"

She looked over the clone's shoulder.

The original Naruto remained behind.

Alone.

Facing Mōryō.

Shion's eyes widened.

"Come back alive!"

Naruto did not turn around.

He only raised his left hand.

Thumb up.

A confident smile appeared on his face.

"I will!"

The Shadow Clones carried Shion away.

Inside Ryūjin Jakka, Asuramaru stared.

Silence.

Then realization struck him.

Wait.

Shion was clearly worried about Naruto.

Naruto was smiling at her.

They had made promises.

He was standing between them.

Asuramaru's expression became strange.

"Oh no."

Naruto heard him.

"What now?"

Asuramaru stared at Shion disappearing into the corridor.

"I've become a third wheel."

Naruto almost lost his footing.

"Asuramaru!"

There was no time to argue.

Several dragon heads were already descending.

Naruto adjusted his grip on Ryūjin Jakka.

He stepped forward.

Heat surged through his body.

Flames ignited across the sword.

"Hinokami Kagura…"

Naruto pushed off the ground.

"Burning Bones, Summer Sun!"

He spun.

Ryūjin Jakka carved several blazing circles through the air.

Fire wheels swept across the attacking dragon heads.

Slash!

One head was severed.

Then another.

Then another.

The detached heads dissolved into black chakra.

But the remaining bodies immediately pulled back.

Dark energy gathered.

New heads grew from the severed necks.

Naruto landed.

More dragon heads attacked.

He dodged one.

Cut another.

The cavern shook under the relentless assault.

Stone broke from the walls.

Lava churned below.

Mōryō laughed.

"Pathetic human!"

Another head smashed through the stone where Naruto had stood a moment earlier.

"To me, crushing you is no different from crushing an ant!"

Naruto flashed aside.

Mōryō's voice followed him.

"Once I kill you…"

Several heads converged.

"And destroy that worthless sword…"

Asuramaru's expression darkened further.

Mōryō roared.

"I will go straight to your village!"

Naruto's eyes sharpened.

"I will destroy everything you treasure!"

Another dragon head lunged.

Naruto cut through it.

The severed head dissolved.

A replacement immediately grew.

Naruto remained calm.

Mōryō was trying to provoke him.

There was no reason to cooperate.

Instead, Naruto analyzed the battlefield.

Mōryō's regeneration was fast.

Its chakra was still increasing.

And there was another unknown observer hidden within the volcanic rock.

Dragging the battle out would only create more variables.

Naruto tightened his grip on Ryūjin Jakka.

Then he spoke inwardly.

"Asuramaru."

"What?"

"I need your power."

Asuramaru answered without hesitation.

"Take it."

His crimson eyes narrowed.

"And crush this thing."

Being called a pathetic sword once was irritating.

Repeatedly hearing it was becoming personal.

Demon Power surged through Naruto.

His body stiffened.

Pale purple markings spread across his cheek.

His right eye changed, becoming a light purple shade.

Power flooded his muscles.

His senses sharpened.

His chakra surged.

Naruto exhaled slowly.

Even after three years of training, Demonization remained difficult for his body to endure.

The reason was simple.

Naruto rarely killed.

His physical growth through Demon Power feedback had been far more limited than it might have been otherwise.

So even now, fully accepting Asuramaru's power placed tremendous strain on him.

Still, the difference was enormous.

Naruto flexed his fingers.

"Thanks, Asuramaru."

"Save the thanks."

Asuramaru replied.

"Kill him."

Naruto smiled.

"Right."

His hands formed a seal.

"Multiple Shadow Clone Technique!"

Poof!

More than a dozen Narutos appeared around him.

Mōryō's dragon heads roared and surged forward.

The Shadow Clones charged to meet them.

Each raised one hand.

Chakra spiralled.

Expanded.

Compressed.

Within moments, enormous Rasengan formed in their palms.

Each sphere was nearly a metre across.

The cavern filled with roaring chakra.

Every clone shouted together.

"Big Ball Rasengan!"

They struck.

Boom!

One giant Rasengan slammed into a dragon head.

Then another.

Then another.

Explosions shook the shrine.

Black chakra scattered across the cavern.

Dragon heads were crushed apart one after another.

The combined blasts filled the area with smoke, dust, and turbulent chakra.

Mōryō's vision was completely obscured.

Behind the chaos, the original Naruto did not move.

He stood with Ryūjin Jakka in his hand.

Veins rose across his forehead.

His breathing deepened.

Hot air escaped his mouth with every exhale.

Then sparks appeared.

Fire followed.

Naruto tightened his grip on the sword.

He had already decided.

He would end this with that move.
