(A/N: Pay attention guys! An important spoiler is hidden in this chapter. Whether you can spot it or not, it's entirely on you.)

The dry September heat of Delhi hung heavy over the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the floodlights hummed, casting a bright glare across the outfield for the 2nd T20I between India and Afghanistan.

Inside the stadium, the atmosphere felt unusually subdued.

Once again, Shreyas Iyer stood at the toss as captain, filling the leadership role just as he had during the infamous Ireland T20 series where India suffered their first-ever defeat to the Irish side, although he won the first game against Afghanistan, everyone seemed to be ignoring it.

Rocky Rudra's name was once again missing from the team sheet, triggering an instantaneous storm across X (formerly Twitter).

Yes, he was in the squad but not playing for some reasons.

Within minutes, thousands of posts flooded timeline feeds, ranging from concern and tactical debates to toxic fan wars.

THE X FEED: SEPTEMBER 15, 2026

@CricProf_Anurag

Shreyas Iyer leading again today... last time he captained in the Ireland T20 series, we literally lost our first-ever series match to Ireland 💀. Why is Rocky missing another T20 series? Is BCCI managing workload or just inviting chaos? #IndvsAfg #WhereIsRudra

@RudraX_Official ✅

He came back for the England T20 series, looked in sublime touch, and now he's rested AGAIN for this Afghan series while sloggers like abhi and Ishan can slog blindly lol. If he's not playing, why add his name to the squad? Is his body really fine?? Or is there something the medical team isn't telling us? The silence from BCCI is getting frustrating. 😟🤷‍♂️

@_Ankit_11

I think Rudra low key just doesn't want to play meaningless bilaterals anymore. Not to mention there's reports that he's still undecided on going to Japan for the Asian Games too. The guy has won everything, these home bilaterals are simply too easy for him.

@Kohli_Kingdom18 ✅

He's a coward lol. Imagine thinking he's above the game. No one is above the game, not even Rocky Rudra. Skipping national duty whenever he feels like it. 🤡🗑️

Reply└─ @RockyRudra_FC ✅

Hahaha! It turned out to be a Kohli dog. How does it feel to be suppressed by Rocky for an entire decade 🤣🤣🤣 Imagine saying that without blushing when your idol took leaves for months altogether! Sit down kid.

@Rajeev_1118 ✅

Rocky! Come back bro. It's not funny anymore bro. I really don't want to see you getting compared to a blind slogger like Abhishek Sharma every time you take a break! 😭😭💔

@CricInsight_2013

I heard someone on regional commentary doing a genuine comparison between Rocky and Abhishek Sharma during the 1st T20. Absurd, isn't it?! That's like comparing Mars to the Sun 🤣🤣 The audacity is unreal!

Reply└─ @Rudra_PunjabFC

Same BRO. Some of these SRH fans are totally over the top! While Abhishek is good in flat-track powerplays, first have him play a Test match on a balanced pitch, his aukaat will be known to everyone then. 🤫🔥

@Sheryax_

Can't you guys stop comparing for a second? While I get the annoyance, I really don't want to get into meaningless comparisons and negativity again. From Kohli to Gill to Abhishek... how many do you want to gather just to hate on us?? 🤦‍♂️💔

Reply└─ @Rudra_Is_King

Hum akela hi kaafi hai! 🔥

(Attached GIF: Rocky Rudra pointing at his chest then doing his signature "I'm Here" celebration at the MCG)

@Mahi_007 ✅

I don't want to say this but FUCK it's boring as hell without Rocky on the field! BCCI really needs to bring back tri-series against top Test-playing nations to bring our excitement back. These bilateral T20s feel so dead.

@Uncle_Ben

Any Gurgaon Rudra's fans present??? It's urgent, guys! That trash reporter Abhishek Tripathi was just spotted near Gurgaon! Please give him another two thrasings for spreading fake injury rumors for cheap engagement! 🖕

Once the match wrapped up, all-format skipper of the Indian cricket team, the most popular cricketer in the world, Rocky Rudra pulled up for a post-match chat with Jatin Sapru.

The interview kicked off with a lighthearted vibe, and Jatin, chuckling, brought up the swirling rumors about Rudra's potential retirement from the shortest format.

Rudra just smirked, completely dismissing it. "Honestly? That's news to me too. Right now, my only focus is on the upcoming World Cup and the World Test Championship. Like I've mentioned before, we've got a phenomenal bunch of boys in the dressing room, and right now, we're just giving them the space to see how they performs..."

Shifting focus to the team selection, Jatin asked if Sooryavanshi would feature in the third T20I.

"Oh, absolutely. He'll be playing," Rudra confirmed. "We didn't want to rush him into the deep end because that just heaps unnecessary pressure on the young boy. But he's very much a part of our plan for the Asian Games."

When Sapru asked why Bumrah was playing this series considering his work loads, Rudra just raised his arms and answered casually, throwing a wink at the end.

"Beat me. Boom wasn't in the plans considering the upcoming ODI and test series, but he insisted on playing, so we added his name. I think he was probably just too bored at home."

...

The moment the clip hit social media, it exploded.

Within 15 minutes, the interview garnered a staggering 75 million views, 13.3 million likes, and 1.1 million reposts on Instagram, as an army of Rudra's loyal fans flooded the comment section.

The top-voted comments were completely hilarious:

"Why do I get the feeling that Rocky is actually using this tour to hide from his wife??" (32.2K likes)

"Guys! I can't stand this hotness anymore. I'm about to undergo gender reassignment surgery just to have Rocky's baby. Bhabhiji @kiaraaliaadvanirudra ✅, move aside!" (611K likes)

The comment above me is just playing, Bhabhiji! On a serious note, thank you for letting our rockstar out of the house for a breather. 🤣" (242.8K likes)

"No matter how many years fly by or how many trophies he lifts, Rudra's obsession with trolling his own teammates will never change." (323K likes)

"Boom is going to get cooked at home after this series, all thanks to Rocky Rudra. 😂" (81.3K likes)

"Bhabhi @sanjanaganesan ✅ check this video out ASAP. You can thank me later @jaspritb1 ✅." (187.9K likes)

"I genuinely thought that once Gambhir took over, the dressing room vibe would become dead serious and intense. I totally forgot that the mastermind behind all the chaos is the captain himself! 😜" (219.5K likes)

Back to the current timeline.

The Dubai International Stadium stood like a gleaming spaceship against the darkening desert horizon.

The iconic "Ring of Fire" floodlights were beginning to hum, casting a brilliant, shadowless glow over the lush green carpet of the outfield.

The air was different here than in Sharjah, it was slightly cooler, but the humidity was crawling up from the Persian Gulf, making the air feel heavy and thick with the scent of expensive cologne and stadium popcorn.

In the stands, a sea of red and silver flags rippled.

The "Gayle-Storm" placards were out in force, but they were now joined by a new, fiercer image: a stylized black wolf with the words "The Hunt Is On" printed in bold RCB gold.

___

The Toss

As the two captains walked out toward the center, the noise reached a deafening pitch.

George Bailey, ever the smiling assassin, looked relaxed in his KXIP jersey, while Virat Kohli walked with a rhythmic, intense stride, flicking his coin-toss blazer over his shoulder.

The coin spun high into the Dubai air, glinting under the lights. It landed with a soft thud in the grass.

"Heads...it is!" Ravi Shastri's voice boomed over the PA system.

"George, you've won the toss. What are you going to do?"

"We're going to have a bowl, Ravi," Bailey said, his grin widening.

The crowd booed softly, wanting to see the RCB bats fly immediately. "It's a good wicket, but we think there might be a bit of dew later on. More importantly, we've seen what this RCB lineup can do. Our plan is simple: restrict them under 150 and let our boys chase it down."

He offered a brief, polite handshake to Kohli and departed, leaving the RCB skipper alone with the microphone.

Virat shrugged, a casual, almost dismissive gesture.

"Honestly, Ravi, we're not that deep into the tournament where the toss dictates our entire mood. If you want to be the best, you have to win from any situation. We've got a big change today—Chris Gayle is in for Mandeep Singh."

The stadium nearly collapsed under the weight of the roar that followed.

"Gayle and Rudra will be opening the innings," Kohli continued, his eyes sharp. "I'm moving to one-down. We're ready."

As Virat walked away, Shastri turned to the camera, his face animated and veins bulging.

"YOU HEARD THE MAN! THE UNIVERSE BOSS IS BACK, AND HE'S PAIRED WITH THE WOLF! KINGS XI PUNJAB HAVE WON THE TOSS AND CHOSEN TO BOWL!"

The Commentary Panel: The Tactical Deep-Dive

Inside the air-conditioned commentary box, Harsha Bhogle, Waqar Younis, and Matthew Hayden leaned over the balcony, watching the ground staff put the final touches on the pitch.

Harsha Bhogle: "You know, there is a specific kind of electricity in the air today. It's not just the heat. It's the anticipation. George Bailey says he wants to restrict them to 150. Waqar, looking at that pitch, is that a brave statement or a delusional one?"

Waqar Younis: (Chuckling, leaning on the desk) "It's a bit of both, Harsha. Look at the surface. It's rock hard. There's no grass to speak of, just a few white cracks that suggest it'll stay true. But the toss does matter here. In Dubai, the ball can swing for the first three overs if there's a bit of moisture in the air. If Mitchell Johnson can find Rocky Rudra's pads early, or if he can get Chris Gayle before he finds his rhythm, then 150 is possible. But if he misses his mark by an inch..."

Matthew Hayden: (Interrupting with a dominant, boisterous tone) "If he misses by an inch, Waqar, he's going into the second tier! Let's be real—Bailey's talking about 150 because he's terrified of 250. He saw what Rudra did to Rajasthan. He saw that 37-ball hundred. And now? Now you've got Gayle at the other end. As a bowler, where do you bowl? If you bowl short to Gayle, he pulls you. If you bowl short to Rudra, he plays that Ponting-style pull that is actually more dangerous because he hits it flatter."

Harsha Bhogle: "It's the psychological weight, isn't it? Usually, the bowler has the upper hand in the first over. But today, the Punjab bowlers are looking at a combined force of nature. Rudra is coming off a performance fueled by pure, unadulterated anger. He isn't just playing cricket. He's settling a score with the universe. And Chris Gayle? Gayle is the 'Universe Boss.' It's like a supernova and a black hole opening the innings together."

Waqar Younis: "The tactical shift by Virat Kohli is the masterstroke for me. Moving himself to number three. It provides a cushion. If Gayle goes early, Virat stabilizes. But if this opening pair lasts six overs... Harsha, the NRR we were talking about earlier? It's going to look like a phone number by the end of the night."

Matthew Hayden: "The experience down there must be intense. Listen to that sounds of the chanting of 'Rudra, Rudra' clashing with the 'Gayle, Gayle' roars. It's a sensory overload. The toss doesn't affect the team as much as the fear of what's coming affects the bowling side."

____

The camera cut sharply to the Royal Challengers Bangalore dugout, where a kinetic blur of crimson and gold hummed with nervous energy.

Mitchell Starc stood at the far end, methodically extending his towering limbs in a pre-bowl stretch, while AB de Villiers shared a lighthearted laugh with Subramaniam Badrinath. Yet, the lens swiftly bypassed them, zooming into a tight frame on two figures anchoring the bottom of the pavilion stairs.

Chris Gayle stood like an imposing monolith. The stadium's floodlights danced across his tinted visor, obscuring his eyes but magnifying his relaxed demeanor as he casually flipped and adjusted his massive Spartan bat, testing its imposing weight. Beside him, Rocky Rudra presented a stark contrast—compact, coiled, and vibrating with silent intensity.

Rudra focused entirely on his gear, meticulously tugging at the Velcro straps of his Kookaburra Kahuna gloves until they sat perfectly flush against his wrists. His jaw remained locked in a rigid, familiar line of absolute concentration.

When their eyes finally met, words proved redundant. Gayle extended a massive, leather-clad fist, meeting Rudra's in a heavy bump that resonated with a sharp, distinct thud through the nearby boundary microphone.

The atmosphere fractured as the umpires led the Kings XI Punjab fielders onto the turf. The fielding side bounded past the ropes, shouting encouragement and clapping their hands in a deliberate bid to generate high energy against the looming threat.

The moment the boundary rope cleared, Gayle marched out first. His leisurely, rhythmic stride possessed a deceptive calm, entirely detached from the electric friction crackling through the stadium.

Rudra trailed a step behind. The instant his boot met the edge of the outfield, his momentum ceased. He paused, isolating himself from the thousands of screaming fans. Bending low, he pressed his fingertips into the parched, dusty Dubai clay, gathered its texture, and brought his hand to his helmet in a quiet, reverent ritual.

When he looked up, his focus narrowed instantly onto the middle. Out on the square, Mitchell Johnson was already rotating his shoulder, sending a clear, hostile warning with his warm-up strides.

The crowd's roar swelled into a deafening, primal crescendo, vibrating violently enough to rattle the glass panes of the commentary box high above.

Stepping into the cauldron, Rudra marked his territory at the non-striker's end, while Gayle planted his feet and took guard at the crease. The world stood entirely still.
