Future Era.

September 11, 2026.

The humid evening air of Southampton hung heavy over the Rose Bowl media center, smelling faintly of cut grass, damp turf, and fresh paint.

Behind the illuminated blue backdrop of the Sky Sports Cricket studio, the broadcast monitors flickered with highlights of Day 4.

At just twenty-one years old, Pakistan's fresh-faced all-rounder, Razaullah, sat on the high stool under the intense studio key lights.

Sweat still trickled down the side of his neck, dampening his dark green team collar. His bowling action across the four days—a side-on, slinging, explosive sprint reminiscent of the legendary Waqar Younis—had left the English batters rattled.

But it was his gritty, lower-order 81 off 114 balls earlier in the afternoon that had dragged Pakistan back into the contest, forcing the match into a tense penultimate day.

Michael Atherton sat opposite him, holding his broadcast microphone with an amused, appreciative smile, while Nasser Hussain looked on from the side desk with arms crossed and eyes wide with genuine admiration.

2026 ENGLAND v PAKISTAN: 3RD TEST (THE ROSE BOWL)

Date: September 11, 2026

Day 3 Post-Match Interview

Debutant Highlight: Razaullah (81 with bat, 4 wickets for 148 runs)

"Razaullah, what an extraordinary debut performance under immense pressure," Atherton began, his calm, authoritative voice setting a comfortable pace. "Batting under heavy cloud cover, taking blows to the body, fighting off broad-side seam bowling... did you feel the tension out there?"

Razaullah let out a bright, youthful laugh, his chest heaving slightly as he adjusted his grip on the lapel mic.

(A/N: This interview happened with a translator but I edited it.)

"I just had to bat, you are the ones who get to enjoy it!" Razaullah grinned, his wide eyes shining with raw energy. "I was planning to take it longer and deeper—81 runs is not bad though! The ball was right in my slot, so I was eyeing that up, trying to provide support for the other batters, and trying to take it as deep as possible. I broke both my bats out there and completely wore down my third!"

Nasser Hussain leaned into his microphone, chuckling softly. "No fear at all out there, lad? The crowd was deafening when Jofra Archer came on to bowl 92 miles an hour."

"There was no point at which I didn't enjoy it or when I was scared," Razaullah shot back instantly, shaking his head with infectious enthusiasm. "I was wanting the strike, and overall I wanted to keep the strike as long as possible to get Pakistan another day."

Atherton shifted his posture, bringing up a graphic on the main studio screen. "Let's talk about your bowling, because on Day 2, you bowled a sharp, late-dipping in-swinger that trapped Joe Root right in front of middle stump."

Razaullah's face beamed instantly, a proud blush creeping up his cheeks.

"It was very special," Razaullah said, crossing his fingers tightly in front of the lens. "Every bowler's dream is to pick the wickets of the legendary Fab 5. I'm glad that I got Joe Root as my first international wicket. I hope—fingers crossed—I'll get the rest three of them while they're still playing! I'll cherish such moments forever."

Atherton's eyebrows arched upward in delighted surprise. He let out a rich laugh, leaning forward to ask the million-dollar question.

"Got any favorites out of that elite group?"

Razaullah's eyes brightened instantly, leaning toward the mic as if sharing a sacred secret.

"It's Rocky Rudra and Virat Kohli!" he blurted out excitedly, gesturing with his hands. "They're everyone's favorites! Rocky bhai's personal signed jersey is still framed right there in my bedroom back home. My biggest dream before my debut is to get his wicket once in my lifetime."

Atherton smiled warmly, shaking his head with a teasing grin.

"Certainly a great dream, Razaullah. But keep in mind," Atherton reminded him with a knowing smile, "you have to get him out on your own merit—not him throwing away his wicket after wrecking utter havoc on your bowling figures!"

Razaullah nodded eagerly, his grin stretching from ear to ear. "I'll try my best, sir!"

"Thank you so much for joining us, lad. Congratulations on a wonderful debut performance, and I hope the best team wins tomorrow," Atherton concluded.

"Thank you, sir!" The youngster unclipped his microphone, stood up, and bounced off the set with unbridled excitement.

BROADCAST WRAP-UP: THE ROAD TO WTC 2027

Instead of closing the remote feed, Michael Atherton turned back toward the main camera.

He smoothed down his suit jacket, adjusted his glasses, and looked straight into the lens with a thoughtful, reflective expression.

ICC WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP (2025-2027) STANDINGS

1. Australia (PCT: 66.5%)

2. South Africa (PCT: 64.2%)

3. India (PCT: 61.0%)

4. New Zealand (PCT: 58.7%)

5. Bangladesh (PCT: 51.2%)

6. England (PCT: 38.1%)

...

"You've heard it personally from the young man whose explosive debut reminded so many of us of a young Rocky Rudra," Atherton spoke smoothly, his voice echoing across millions of television sets worldwide. "Though his scale today might be small compared to Rocky's legendary beginnings, it is still more than enough to etch his name into the record books."

Atherton paused, leaning an elbow against the studio desk as the graphic shifted to Rocky Rudra's career statistics.

"Rocky's wicket remains the most prized, most coveted scalp in international cricket—even now, nearly thirteen full years since his historic debut in South Africa back in 2013," Atherton noted, a tone of awe lacing his words. "That alone tells you everything about the scary, unprecedented nature of the man himself."

He turned back to face the main desk, where the global standings table illuminated the screen.

"Well, well... the race to the WTC 2027 Final is heating up dramatically. Australia and South Africa currently occupy the top two spots, with India, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and England chasing aggressively right behind them. Will it be a showdown between two previous champions, or will a new side spoil the party and gatecrash the final at Lord's? Only time will tell."

____

Back to the present.

The desert air pressing down on the Sharjah Cricket Stadium was a thick, stagnant blanket of heat, smelling of parched grass and the faint, metallic tang of the baking floodlights.

Above, the famous "Ring of Fire" glowed against the dark sky, but the atmosphere inside the stadium felt less like a sporting event and more like a Roman colosseum.

RCB were cruising in their chase of 151.

Rocky Rudra had walked out to the crease radiating that signature, bristling confident energy. He looked like a man locked in a private war with the KKR spinners, already sitting on 12 runs after dispatching Shakib Al Hasan with a majestic pull shot that had nearly dented the scoreboard.

____

Over 6.4

Sunil Narine drifted one in—a classic, biting off-break that gripped the surface with lethal intent. Rudra leaned forward, executing a decisive, technically flawless front-foot press to smother the spin.

The ball hissed, taking a visible deflection off the inside edge before thudding heavily into his front pad and looping lazily toward the short-leg fielder.

The KKR inner ring erupted into a deafening, unified shriek.

The umpire's finger shot up instantly, cutting through the noise.

Rudra didn't hesitate. Without a backward glance, he slashed his arms into a sharp, aggressive "T" sign to demand a review, his face a mask of indifference.

The slow-motion loop soon filled the giant screen. The ball clearly deviated.

As it passed the willow, a distinct clack of wood echoed through the stump microphone, followed by the muffled thud against the foam of the pad. The spike on the UltraEdge waveform was undeniable.

Yet, the audio feed from the third umpire cracked over the broadcast: "I have no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision. Stick with the original call. Out."

The big screen flashed OUT in bright, clinical red.

The entire stadium erupted like a powder keg. A unified, deafening roar of "CHEATER! CHEATER!" ignited in the North Stand and swept through the grandstands like wildfire.

Rudra did not budge an inch at all.

He stood locked at the crease, his bat tucked tightly under his arm, boring a hole through the umpire with a gaze of absolute fury.

Rules had never been something he followed blindly, and right now, he was a man being publicly robbed in front of tens of thousands of witnesses.

Walking slightly toward the mid-pitch, Rudra spoke just loud enough for the microphone to catch his raspy, venomous tone. "It's off the bat, man. Look at the screen. Are you blind, or did you just have somewhere else to be?"

Both on-field officials stiffened, pointing a rigid, collective finger toward the pavilion.

However, Rudra refused to yield, thrusting his bat forward and emphatically tapping the fresh cherry scuff mark on the edge of his Kookaburra Kahuna.

From the non-striker's end, Virat Kohli stormed down the pitch, his eyes wide with disbelief, his explosive body language perfectly mirroring Rudra's boiling intensity.

He looked like he wanted to beat the third umpire.

___

In The Commentary Box

Danny Morrison: (Voice cracking with high-pitched, manic energy, hands gesturing wildly in the pod) "OH MY WORD! WHAT IS HAPPENING?! The replay showed absolute wood, Harsha! It was as clear as the Sharjah moon, my friend! Unbelievable scenes here in the desert! Absolutely unbelievable!"

Harsha Bhogle: (Speaking with a calm but deeply puzzled cadence, shaking his head with an earnest frown) "This is… this is remarkably rushed. A very hasty decision to me. The third umpire simply hasn't spent enough time looking at that UltraEdge waveform. Rocky Rudra is absolutely fuming out there, and frankly, you cannot blame him one bit. He is standing his ground, he is letting them know, and this massive Sharjah crowd is giving the officials a piece of their mind!"

Ravi Shastri: (Booming, baritone voice rattling the television speakers, dripping with raw charisma and unfiltered aggression) "It's a robbery in the desert, plain and simple! No two ways about it! You've got technology which all other cricket boards boast about, you've got the cameras, use them! The boy is absolutely gutted, and you can see the anger dripping off Virat Kohli out there! Total drama at Sharjah!"

___

Finally, accepting that the terrible decision was set in stone, Rudra turned on his heel. He stormed off the pitch, his body radiating a murderous, boiling rage.

The moment he crossed the boundary rope, he let out a guttural snarl and brought his bat down onto the foam cushions, the sheer force of the blow sending a spray of dust into the humid air.

He paid no attention to the supportive crowd, whose deafening chants of "CHEATER!" were still rattling the stadium structures. He dove straight into the shadows of the tunnel, the violent, rhythmic clack-clack-clack of his spikes echoing off the concrete walls until the dressing room door slammed shut behind him.

____

The theft of Rudra's wicket effectively threw sand into the gears of the RCB machine.

The surface was playing tricks now—tacky, slow, and offering Sunil Narine enough purchase to turn the ball a country mile. Virat Kohli fought hard to anchor the collapsing innings, scraping together a crucial 23 before a rare misjudgment saw his lofted drive settle into the hands of long-off.

Parthiv Patel's 21 offered temporary relief, but both he and Mandeep Singh found themselves choked by a disciplined KKR ring. Even the genius of AB de Villiers wasn't enough.

Suffocated by a skyrocketing asking rate, the maestro was forced into a desperate, low-percentage sweep that cost him his wicket.

Commentary Panel Discussion:

Harsha Bhogle: "You can pinpoint the exact moment the life left this run chase, and it was that dreadful decision against Rudra. KKR captured the momentum right there and they haven't let go. With Subramaniam Badrinath and Albie Morkel walking into a pressure cooker, the mountain just keeps getting steeper."

Danny Morrison: (Arms flailing, eyes wide) "Oh, they are completely losing their rhythm out there, Harsha! The deck is turning into a graveyard for timing! If the young rockstar Rocky was still out there, he'd be muscle-powering that short-arm jab into the stands! But right now? It is a colossal, towering peak to scale!"

___

Despite a vintage, breathless assault from Albie Morkel in the death overs gave RCB a pulsing lifeline, but defending twelve runs in the final over proved academic for KKR's ice-cool execution.

RCB finished their twenty overs on 148/5, falling heartbreakingly short by just two runs..

Post-Match Presentation

The air inside the stadium remained heavy and tense as both teams gathered on the presentation turf.

The thunderous, aggressive chants had finally subsided, leaving behind a low, disgruntled hum of raw dissatisfaction that rippled through the grandstands.

Ravi Shastri: (Voice echoing with dramatic, booming authority, holding the microphone tight) "Well, it was a humdinger of a game here in Sharjah, ladies and gentlemen, but it certainly leaves a sour taste in the mouth! Let's bring up our player of the match for his unbelievable, gravity-defying catch on the boundary and those absolutely crucial runs up top... Chris Lynn!"

Lynn stepped onto the podium, his posture noticeably relaxed as if he had just escaped a disaster zone. He shifted his weight, offering a tight, relieved smile.

"Yeah, it was a close one," Lynn admitted, running a hand over his cap. "I'm glad that we won. It'll boost our morale for the ongoing tournament."

"We knew if we got their top three out early, we'd put ourselves right in the contest. That wicket...it was absolutely massive for us. A bit of luck went our way out there tonight, I guess, and we'll take it."

(RCB's Captain Reaction):

Virat stepped up to the microphone, his jaw clenched and his eyes still burning with residual adrenaline.

He didn't even wait for the first question to be fully asked before letting out a sharp, cynical breath.

"Look, we both know what just transpired there."

"I don't want to get fined here," Kohli began, his voice dripping with restrained fury as he gestured sharply with his hands. "But everyone with a television screen saw exactly what happened out there tonight. Rocky was in incredible touch, he was hitting the ball beautifully so far before this game, and that single decision completely altered the momentum of the game. You expect better accuracy and far better use of technology at this level. Period. We lost the match by just two runs. You do the math on what a set, firing Rocky would have done to that target."

____

As the towering floodlights finally dimmed over Sharjah, the chatter echoing through the desert streets wasn't centered on Lynn's spectacular boundary catch or Narine's lethal spin spell.

Instead, the cricket world was completely captivated by a single, striking image: a nineteen-year-old guy, standing defiant in the eye of a desert storm, refusing to accept a flawed reality.

The hunt for the IPL title had become deeply personal now.

____

The r/Cricket match thread turned into a digital riot following that "daylight robbery."

The 2-run defeat felt entirely self-inflicted by a third umpire who seemed to be watching a different broadcast.

r/Cricket Match Thread: "The Robbery in Sharjah"

u/Namma_RCB_18: "A spike as big as the Burj Khalifa on ultra-edge and he calls it conclusive evidence? I'm literally shaking. Damn it! We lost by 2 runs. #Robbed 😡"

u/CricketPundit99: "A neutral guy here, but that was sure painful to watch. The ball practically screamed 'I HIT THE BAT' and the third umpire was like 'Nah, I'm busy scrolling porn.' Shocking. 🤦‍♂️"

u/MI_Paltan_4Life: "Karma for mocking Bhajji in the last game? Maybe. But even I'll admit, that was a shocking call. RIP to the next team they play. 😂"

u/Sad_Challenger: "Rocky's face when he left... I'm sure he left a curse on that pitch. I've never seen a 19-year-old after Kohli, look that ready to commit a crime."

u/WhistlePodu_Express: "RCB fans crying is my favorite aesthetic. Decision was close. Benefit of doubt goes to the bowler. Cry more! 💛🔥"

Reply by u/Pele_The_GOAT: "Mf wait. I'm going to enjoy whistle blowers' misery against RCB. Don't forget Rudra has smashed your team 4 times in last season.🤡"

u/GullyCricketExpert: "The 3rd umpire needs to be investigated. You can't look at that for 5 seconds and stay with 'Out.' It's an insult to the technology."

u/Kohli_Goat: "Virat's reaction at the non-striker's end said it all. He knows the momentum died right there. Rocky was about to go berserk if not for Kohli's holding him off."

u/AussieBogan: "That swivel-pull he hit before the wicket was prime Punter. To get him out on a fake dismissal is just bad for the sport. Disgraceful."

u/Kolkata_Knight_Rider: "A win is a win! Narine's flight fooled the kid. If you don't like it, don't get an inside edge next time! Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo! 💜"

u/TheOutlier_Stan: "Smashing the boundary cushions was just the appetizer. The main course is what he's going to do to the Rajasthan Royals. Pray for them."

u/Desi_Cricket_Nerd: "Sharjah crowd chanting 'Cheater' is the peak IPL atmosphere. The fans know. The players know. Only the umpire is blind."

u/TradeRegret_: "Imagine being Rocky. You're in the form of your life, you hit it, and you get sent back. I'd be smashing more than just cushions."

u/Anti_Trophyless: "It was pad first. Ultra-edge can be tricky. Stop making excuses for a collapse. 23, 21, 11... that's why you lost, not one wicket."

u/BoundaryBot: "RCB lost by 2 runs. Rocky Rudra was on 12(7). He would have finished this in the 15th over after settling down. Robbery confirmed."

u/SpiritOfCricket_LOL: "Technology is only as good as the person using it. Today, it was used to execute a hit job on a teenager."

u/RR_Royal_Fan: "Wait, we play them next? Can we just give them the points and stay home? I don't want to be in the stadium when Rocky walks out angry."

u/SunnyG_Fan: "Gavaskar's commentary during the replay was all of us. 'What is he looking at?' Indeed, what was he looking at?"

u/IPL_Meme_Lord: "(Image of the Umpire with a blindfold) 'Looks out to me!' #KKRvRCB #RudraRobbed"

u/_Analyst: "The pitch was holding. Rocky was the only one playing through the line. Taking him out was the only way KKR was winning today."

u/Quotations_182: "April 24, 2014. The day the DRS died in Sharjah. Rocky Rudra, the world is with you."

____

The Looming Shadow: "RIP RR"

The sentiment among the fans quickly shifted from fury at the umpire to schadenfreude for Rajasthan Royals, RCB's next opponent.

u/CricketKing_07: "KKR might have won the match, but they've finished themselves. The anger Rocky left with... he's going to destroy the league now. RIP RR. Our prayers are with you as alw."

u/lordxxx_: "Honestly feeling bad for the Rajasthan Royals. They're walking into a buzzsaw. I can feel it. He's definitely going vent everything on them. Poor RR. Always them lol."

u/The_Observer: "Umpire and BCCI just created a monster. You don't rob a 19-year-old alien and expect him to stay quiet. RR is just collateral damage now."

u/Cuttack_Thunder: "He's going back to the nets tonight. I can feel it. The next time he takes guard, the bowler is going to need a helmet too. #RudraRevenge"

u/Dhoni_The_Finisher: "Even as a CSK fan, fuck the umpire. You don't ruin a chase like that. KKR got lucky, but their luck runs out when they meet a set Rudra again."

u/IPL_Conspiracy: "Is it just me or does it feel like the BCCI wants to 'tame' the Wolf? Well, you just made him hungrier. Good luck, Jaipur."

u/6Inch_Man: "RCB NRR still leads, but the mental NRR is off the charts. They are coming for blood. RR fans, stay safe."

u/Legend_Punter: "If I'm the RR captain, I'm bowling nothing but wide yorkers. Don't even look him in the eye. He's already fuming."

u/Broken_Bat: "The sound of that bat hitting the cushion... that's the sound of the rest of the IPL teams' hopes breaking. More than RR, I'm more excited for the 2nd leg vs KKR."

u/busy_burst: "The most dangerous player in the world currently is gearing up for the next game. I can feel a storm coming. Buckle up, guys!"
