Naruto: From Ninja Academy to an Early Grave

Chapter 281: Konoha of a Parallel World

Sasuke: "..."

Even if someone was going to get the wrong idea, it should have been his wife. Why Naruto? There was nothing between them.

Sure, his first kiss had gone to Naruto, but that had been an accident.

Boruto had no understanding of the inappropriate thoughts that ran through adult minds. Once he confirmed that the person who had appeared was indeed Higashino Makoto, he excitedly rushed over and threw his arms around him.

"Wow~ It really is you, Makoto-sensei!"

"Of course it's me, Boruto-kun. So? Surprised? Excited?"

Boruto nodded vigorously.

"I'm super surprised and super excited! But, Makoto-sensei, how did you get here?"

"Didn't you just see it? I hid inside your master's body and came over with him. After arriving, I just grew back out of your master. So technically, I'm half a Sasuke now."

"Huh? You can do that?"

"Boruto, don't listen to his nonsense. This is just a physical clone formed from a special type of chakra," Sasuke reminded his foolish disciple. After a moment's thought, he decided to address the matter directly.

"Makoto-senpai, it seems that when you repaired my left arm, you had already anticipated this outcome, didn't you?"

He wasn't being talkative for no reason.

He simply wanted to prove his innocence and stop everyone from being led astray by a certain shameless bastard.

He was a straight man, thank you very much. His wife and daughter could both testify to that.

Makoto grinned.

"That's right. Although your left arm was regenerated from your own cells, all the energy required came from my True Yang Power."

"So that arm is highly compatible with my chakra. You could say I own half of it too. Make sure you don't use it for anything strange in the future."

Sasuke: "..."

He instinctively glanced at his left hand and suddenly felt like he didn't want it anymore.

Maybe he should cut it off and have Naruto make him a new one.

He never should have expected anything from this man. No matter what came out of his mouth, it always sounded wrong.

After Makoto's comment, even Sasuke himself felt there was something off about his left hand.

He made a firm decision.

From now on, whenever he slept beside Sakura at night, he absolutely would not use that hand.

Boruto looked at Makoto with admiration.

"Makoto-sensei, you already thought that far ahead back then?"

"Of course. If we had used my training system, solving your sensei's physical problems might have taken longer, but it would also have broken through the limits of his potential."

"I figured that, given Sasuke's personality, he would eventually make the more rational choice. The issue with you just made it so he had even less room to choose otherwise."

"I see. Then how long can this clone of yours stay around, Makoto-sensei?"

"If I don't help you solve your training resource problem, I can remain for a very long time."

"But there's no need for that, is there?"

...

Naruto and his ever-reliable strategist, Shikamaru, had been quietly observing from the side, trying to determine whether he was friend or foe.

Only after seeing how familiar he was with Sasuke and Boruto did they finally lower their guard.

Once the three finished joking around, Naruto stepped forward.

"Welcome to our world. You must be the Higashino Makoto-senpai Sasuke told us about."

Makoto nodded.

"That's me, Seventh Hokage-sama. Though honestly, there's no need for you to call me senpai."

"In my world, Kushina was my sensei."

"When I was young, she taught me the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques without holding anything back. She played an important role in my growth and is someone I deeply respect."

Naruto broke into a bright smile.

"Looks like my mother in the other world took on a wonderful student."

"In that case, I'll call you senior brother instead."

"Senior Brother Makoto, you should recognize the person standing beside me, so I won't bother introducing him. I'm sure your world has a version of him too."

"Of course." Makoto glanced at Shikamaru. "In my world, Shikamaru is one of my disciples as well."

"Though looking at him now, he's not nearly as cute as he was as a kid. At least his face finally shows some motivation."

Shikamaru scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

So the him from the other world had been the same as well—unmotivated, content to coast through life, and just drifting along.

"Makoto-senpai, it's a pleasure meeting you. Please take care of me."

"I won't be around long enough for that. I'm only a clone. Once I finish what I came here to do, I'll disappear."

Naruto smiled.

"No matter what, I still have to thank you for restoring Sasuke's arm. You've solved something that's been weighing on my mind for a long time."

Shikamaru asked, "You just said that one of the reasons you came here was because of Boruto's situation. Is he in some kind of danger?"

Boruto: "..."

As expected, his old man was completely unreliable.

Even Uncle Shikamaru had immediately picked up on the problem hidden in Makoto-sensei's words, yet his father had only been concerned about Sasuke-sensei's arm.

His master only had a problem with one arm.

His own life was on the line!

Sure enough, he would have to use the method Grandpa and Grandma taught him and properly straighten out this Hokage father who never cared enough about his son.

Only then did Naruto finally realize he should be concerned about his son.

"Sasuke, what happened to Boruto?"

Boruto: Life is so hard.

Sasuke replied, "It's related to the Ōtsutsuki Clan. It's also one of the important pieces of information we discovered in Makoto-senpai's world, regarding the resurrection mechanism of their clan..."

Makoto interrupted him.

"You can discuss that in detail later. First, let me explain the prerequisites for changing Konoha's environment."

"First, I need to establish a dojo in an open area of Konoha. It will be used for natural energy conversion."

"Second, I need to modify Konoha's current defensive barrier."

"As for why, both Sasuke and Boruto already know the reason. You can start planning for it now."

"As for me, I finally have the chance to visit this place, so I'd like to look around. No objections, I hope?"

"No problem," Naruto replied. "Senior Brother Makoto, would you like me to arrange someone to show you around Konoha?"

"No need. The village has expanded quite a bit, but the overall road layout and the landmark buildings aren't much different from the Konoha in my world."

"So go make your preparations. Once you've worked everything out, I'll come find you myself."

As soon as he finished speaking, Makoto vanished.

Following his usual cautious principles, Shikamaru asked, "Should we have the ANBU keep an eye on him?"

Sasuke shook his head.

"There's no need. With his strength, if he wanted to harm Konoha, none of us could stop him, even if this is only a clone."

Naruto nodded.

"I trust Sasuke, and I trust the judgment of my parents from the other world as well."

"Let's focus on discussing where to build this natural energy conversion dojo."

"Oh, right. And Boruto's situation too."

Boruto: Dad, you finally remembered me!

...

The Konoha of this world had suffered quite a few disasters.

First, Momoshiki had come knocking, failed to defend his rights, and simply blew up the entire village—while also leaving behind a gigantic crater.

Then the Ten-Tails reappeared, the God Tree returned, and its roots thoroughly plowed through Konoha once more.

It had truly been a place plagued by misfortune.

The current Konoha had been rebuilt after the crater was partially filled in and restored according to its original design.

As a result, aside from being at a slightly lower elevation and having a few more modern features, the layout of the village center was not very different from the Konoha in Makoto's world.

The biggest differences were in the outer districts.

The surrounding areas were far more densely built up. Many of the large training grounds had disappeared, replaced by high-rise residential complexes.

The power of real estate was truly terrifying!

If the Konoha in Makoto's world could be compared to a county town, then the Konoha here had already become a thriving metropolitan city.

Electric rail lines connected the various districts, making daily commuting convenient for residents.

After extending his perception slightly, Makoto discovered that the ratio of civilians to shinobi was extremely unbalanced.

Rather than looking like a military stronghold populated by ninja, the place felt more like an ordinary city where civilians and shinobi lived side by side.

Presumably, after the Fourth Shinobi World War, many well-connected people from across the world had relocated to Konoha.

After all, everyone had been hung from the God Tree at some point.

Once people learned how terrifying the world truly was, they desperately needed a place where they could sleep peacefully without worrying about their safety.

Looking across the entire shinobi world, what place could possibly be safer than Konoha, where two saviors stood watch?

Makoto had no interest in the unfamiliar new districts on the outskirts.

After leaving the Hokage Residence, he wandered through the old district near the center, experiencing the differences between the two worlds.

The old district was also the heart of Greater Konoha.

The people who lived there were the original ninja clans and long-time civilian residents of Konoha.

They were locals.

And when they looked at the newcomers living in the outer districts, they naturally felt a sense of superiority.

Their thoughts were probably all more or less the same:

"Look at those outsiders. Came running to our Konoha to beg for a living, did you?"
