Chapter 57 PLOT TWIST, Paradox. And futures king vs The GOAT
"Privately."
Aldes narrowed his eyebrows. He tilted his head slowly. Both of his hands moved behind his back hiding his trembling fingers. "Villavia?"
Leafa narrowed her eyes from behind. She saw Aldes's trembling hands. The girl raised her right hand and pointed at the back of Aldes's head using her thumb.
Swish.
A small transparent energy shot out hitting the back of Aldes's head.
Aldes's body jolted slightly. His racing heartbeat instantly beat normally. The coldness and fear in his chest evaporated completely. His hands stopped trembling. He turned back staring at Leafa.
Leafa nodded slowly.
Aldes also nodded. He looked back at the dragon servant.
The dragon woman reached out her right hand. "Please hold my hand Sir."
Aldes touched the servant's palm.
Swish.
The scenery instantly changed completely. The dragon servant disappeared. Aldes now stood inside a spacious and luxurious wooden room.
On the opposite wall was a room wide wooden framed glass window. The dark storm view completely vanished. The night sky outside the glass looked very clear. A giant bluish green and pink aurora light danced in the sky illuminating the calmly rippling ocean. The aurora light pierced the glass reflecting on the wooden floor and the face of a man sitting in the middle of the room.
Villavia sat calmly arranging chess pieces on a wooden table. "Good evening I suppose," Villavia said quietly. He placed the black king in its position. "Someone from another world."
Aldes closed his eyes for a moment. He opened his eyes and stared at Villavia. "Zakra," Aldes called out flatly.
His eyes glanced toward the large glass window then stared at the calm ocean beneath the aurora. "You can even change the weather. What can you not do Prince," Aldes said.
Aldes looked back at Villavia's golden eyes then turned to the table. "Chess."
"Do you know how to play?" Villavia asked gently. The man pointed to an empty velvet chair across the table.
"In my world there is a similar game. The name is also the same." Aldes stepped forward and sat calmly in the chair. "Perhaps the inventor of this game came from my world Prince."
"Call me by my name Zakra." Villavia tilted his face slightly. "You are not from here. There is no need to be bound by etiquette."
Aldes lifted his white pawn and advanced it two squares forward. (1. e4). "What do you want."
Villavia replied by advancing his black pawn. (1... e5). "I want you to tell me where you came from."
Aldes moved his white knight forward. (2. Nf3). "Talking about my world." Aldes stared straight into Villavia's eyes. "Make a cigarette and a glass of wine appear in my hand."
Villavia's eyebrows furrowed slightly. "A cigarette and a glass of wine."
"In my hand."
Swish.
The air above Aldes's palm rippled. A white cigarette stick and a glass of red wine appeared just like that in his grasp.
"Do you mind if you conjure a little fire right here," Aldes said pointing to the tip of his cigarette.
Swish.
The tip of the cigarette instantly lit up burning red. White smoke billowed.
Aldes took the cigarette from his lips and looked at it closely. "It has been a very long time." Aldes inhaled the tobacco aroma. "Ah I feel like I am back. I wonder what brand this is."
Aldes took a slow drag of his cigarette and blew the smoke into the air. "Do you realize how crazy that is. You can conjure a specific object from my mind."
Villavia advanced his black knight. (2... Nc6). His face remained calm without answering.
"You could probably conjure dangerous weapons straight from my imagination." Aldes moved another pawn piece. (3. d4).
Villavia captured Aldes's pawn. (3... exd4).
"My place of origin is called Earth," Aldes said. He advanced his knight to capture a black pawn. (4. Nxd4). "Very different from here. There is no magic. People are controlled by sheets of paper or gold. But they are very smart and innovative."
Villavia advanced his other black knight. (4... Nf6). "No magic huh." Villavia's golden eyes stared into Aldes's eyes. "Sounds peaceful."
Aldes captured Villavia's knight. (5. Nxc6). He shook his head. "Not at all."
Villavia captured Aldes's knight using a pawn. (5... dxc6).
Aldes advanced his queen and captured Villavia's black queen. (6. Qxd8+). "You made two human kingdoms unite to go to war against our kingdom. Then you offered help to Tominus." Aldes smiled. "Just a guess."
Villavia moved his king to capture the white queen. (6... Kxd8). The man smiled faintly without voicing a denial.
Aldes sipped the wine from his glass letting the grape taste wet his throat. He took another drag of his cigarette. "If I may guess one more thing."
Aldes advanced his pawn. (7. f3). "You are the one who killed Aldes. The original Aldes."
"Why do you think that?" Villavia asked. He moved a black pawn to the edge of the board. (7... a5).
Aldes advanced his knight. (8. Nc3). "The Elfier Kingdom is very loyal to Tominus. He has no rivals. My siblings also do not see me as a serious threat. Plus Tominus would definitely find out if his children killed each other."
Aldes tapped his cigarette ash onto a small plate on the table. "There must be an outside party who benefits or is involved."
Villavia advanced his black bishop. (8... Bd6).
"Then how did Aldes die," Aldes continued. He moved his white bishop. (9. Be3). "Murdered? Poisoned? Or suicide? The chance of being murdered is very small. Then how could he commit suicide when he is so afraid of death."
Aldes pointed at Villavia's face using his cigarette. "You controlled Aldes's mind."
Villavia moved his black rook. (9... Re8). The man fell silent for a moment then chuckled softly. "You are smarter than I expected."
Aldes moved his king to the corner performing a castling move. (10. O-O-O). "Why."
"I felt a premonition that Aldes would become a major threat to me in the future," Villavia answered. He moved his king. (10... Ke7). "I did not understand how someone as stupid as him could become a threat. But my premonition was so strong that I was forced to do it."
Villavia's golden eyes stared straight into Aldes's eyes. "But who would have thought that after I killed him your soul entered to replace him instead."
Aldes did not answer. He advanced his pawn. (11. a4). The chess game continued quickly. The pieces captured each other along with their conversation that flowed calmly. The sound of wood clashing chimed regularly in the middle of the room.
"That premonition of a threat is still there," Villavia said breaking the silence. "I then realized something. The Aldes in the future who becomes a threat is the current you."
Aldes chuckled softly. "How ironic. Then why do you not kill me again."
"I would immediately be killed by Tominus. My only chance is gone," Villavia answered staring at the chess board. "If I killed you again perhaps it would lead to a new destiny. And I would indirectly be the one making my destiny of destruction come true. Just like when I killed Aldes which turned out to make my premonition of a threat become real."
Villavia moved his king trying to find a way out at the end of the game. (43... Kh4). "I must find another way. Or choose not to kill you at all."
Aldes raised his wine glass and drank its contents until empty. He lowered the empty glass onto the table. His right hand held the white rook at the edge of the board then slid it straight toward the black king. (44. Rh3#).
The sound of clashing wood rang firmly.
"Checkmate," Aldes said staring straight at Villavia's face.
Villavia's golden pupils expanded instantly. He lowered his gaze looking at the final formation on the chess board. His king was completely trapped with no way out.
