Chapter 105: Death Flame
In Azrael’s eyes, all that existed was an endless darkness.
He did not know how much time had passed in that darkness.
All he knew was that he was drifting through it.
He could not even control his body, only moving with the flow.
Then a light seemed to appear in the darkness.
Azrael’s eyes widened as he looked toward the light.
He tried to move his hand, but it did not respond.
But it did not remain the same for long.
The light began to draw him closer. At the same time, its intensity began to rise, to a point where Azrael wanted to close his eyes.
But he could not.
His body just couldn’t follow his command.
Not until—
"Arghh!" The loud yell broke the silence of the room, drawing nine pairs of eyes toward the source.
Azrael looked around from his position.
He had been lying on a bed previously, only sitting up from the shock of reviving.
His head drifted through the room, noting everyone there.
Then he bowed toward the person who sat at the far end.
It was Abaddon, his face cold and aloof as he stared at Azrael.
"You are finally awake," Abaddon said without changing his expression.
Azrael nodded slowly, still trying to understand the situation he was in.
At the same time, he felt a burning sensation on his chest, on the same spot where Prometheus had struck him during their fight.
Instinctively, he touched the spot in an attempt to soothe the pain.
But it did not reduce.
His touch only made it burn hotter.
Azrael sucked in cold air as he pulled his hand away from the injury.
Abaddon noticed this and shook his head.
"Seems like you were burnt by Prometheus’s Death Flames," he said, his gaze narrowing into what felt like pity.
Azrael nodded, the words striking his mind like a hammer.
If what Abaddon said was true, then it meant there might be no way of treating his wound.
Death Flames were an evolution of Soul Flames.
They bypassed all defenses and skills to directly inflict burning injuries on their victims.
It was one of the Nine Divine Flames in the universe.
’To think he had one of the Nine Divine Flames at his disposal,’ Azrael mused.
All this knowledge was taught to him by Raksha during one of their training sessions.
"Are you sure you want to participate in the Prime Nexus Convergence?" Abaddon asked, his tone resolute.
Before Azrael could speak, Abaddon continued.
"Death Flames are so potent that their flames would continue burning their victims even after death. Overusing your essence triggers the flames to burn hotter, allowing them to consume your soul. Finally, there is no known cure for them aside from another Divine Flame."
Abaddon said all of this in one breath as if he wanted Azrael to understand the urgency behind his words.
The other students watched the banter between Azrael and Abaddon.
There was nothing they could say in a situation like this.
All they could do was watch and hope everything turned out well.
"I am willing to take the risk," Azrael replied with a resolute voice.
If it were before, he might have said no.
But after hearing the system’s speech about the tower, Azrael had only wanted to visit it since then.
Abaddon sighed at Azrael’s words as if he had expected that response.
Even Erebus could not help but sigh.
Finally, after a bit of internal thought, Abaddon spoke.
"Then, if you wish to participate, get up. The Prime Nexus Convergence is no place for weaklings who lie back after one setback."
Azrael was jolted back to reality by Abaddon’s cold words.
He got up quickly, landing on the tiles with a slight crunch.
Abaddon waited for the students to gather in front of him.
"Okay, I called earlier today."
The students frowned.
They did not understand what Abaddon had meant by saying he called today.
How was the call connected to them?
"I will get back to you guys later. For now, don’t worry too much about it."
Abaddon’s next words calmed the students, but not Azrael.
His curiosity got the better of him.
He began tapping the sole of his shoe on the floor as a means to distract himself from thinking about what Abaddon had said.
Everyone in the room noticed this.
But they did not comment on it, only ignoring it.
"For the vacation," Abaddon said, glancing toward Erebus.
Erebus caught the cue, and he stepped forward.
"I am sure you guys know that the demon race as a whole is but a speck of dust when compared to the population of the entire universe," Abaddon said while Erebus carried a tray toward the students.
Atop the tray were bands, each one made of the same material.
Abaddon paused, letting Erebus hand the bands to each of the students.
At the same time, he collected the rings from them.
Less than a minute passed, and Erebus had returned to Abaddon’s side, holding the tray which now carried the rings.
"Those are connectors," Abaddon said calmly. "By wearing and activating one, you can access a ton of useful features."
He nodded at the students as if urging them to wear the bracelets.
They did not hesitate.
Azrael was the first to wear his own.
Immediately, he felt the band wrap tightly around his wrist before it disappeared.
His brows narrowed as he looked at where the band was supposed to be.
"You can remove it at any time by tapping the exact spot where you wore it. As for activating it, just think about opening its surface."
Azrael followed Abaddon’s instructions, willing the connector with his mind.
Instantly, something popped up in his vision, displaying several options.
They ranged from calls to banking to location.
Literally everything Azrael could think of was there.
’Is this like a phone?’ he mused as he stared at the screen.
That was the only way he could describe the connector.
He raised his hand slowly in an attempt to touch the screen in front of him.
But his hand passed through, causing a ripple to spread across the screen’s surface.
"Okay, listen to what I have to say," Abaddon suddenly said, snapping all of them out of their focus.
