My Overpowered Demon System

Chapter 99: Rion’s Rage

Azrael stood above a massive canyon, gazing down at the hundreds of monsters that roamed beneath.

They were green beings with slightly hunched backs and pointy ears.

Their mouths were wide open, drooling.

"Goblins," Azrael muttered.

In this world, monsters were not a separate category of being.

They were also races.

But with one caveat. The lack of wisdom.

Monsters were races that followed instinct alone.

"Even though they are only tier three, why would they pit us against this many?" Azrael groaned with a long sigh.

He remained quiet for a while after that, still watching the goblins roam aimlessly below.

Finally, he turned to his left.

"You can have this one, Rion," Azrael said with a smile.

Rion roared at the words.

He leapt up, all four weapons appearing in his hands as he plummeted into the ranks of the goblins.

Green blood sprayed into the air as goblins exploded from the impact.

Their bodies were mashed against the cold earth.

Rion had moved before they could even register his arrival.

His sword and hammer moved in tandem, one cleaving through goblins on his left while the other reduced them to paste.

The goblins still standing turned to face Rion.

His menacing figure overshadowed them entirely, and their first instinct was to attack.

They did not care that he was far stronger.

They lunged, pikes leading forward, tips pointing at him.

Rion’s brows twitched.

In his eyes, the goblins were holding the sharpest golden spears in existence.

Fear surfaced in his mind briefly. He recovered almost instantly.

But that short window was all the goblins needed.

They drove their essence infused pikes into his limbs.

From the top of the cliff, Azrael squinted one eye as he watched.

White blood splattered, staining the brown earth.

Rion’s wail echoed through the space, rattling even the goblins.

Pain and rage flared in his eyes as he looked at them.

He swung down, this time harder.

As the hammer descended, space seemed to tear, a crack appearing and swallowing the hammer’s head.

Before the goblins could celebrate, the crack appeared beneath them, launching them upward.

Rion’s sword struck, cleaving through more than thirty goblins in a single stroke.

His eyes landed on the remaining goblins flinging stones at him.

He did not try to meet them directly.

Swinging vertically through empty air, a series of tearing sounds erupted.

The same sound made when fabric is split in two.

The same sound made when flesh is ripped.

The earth gave way from the sheer force behind the attack.

Even without minds, fear swelled in the goblins.

But it was too late.

Thousands of lights began to pop into the sky.

Motes of essence that covered the goblins in darkness.

The lights descended like a rain of dying stars, piercing through goblin after goblin.

Holes were bored into the earth as the remnant essence continued to burrow downward.

For a moment, there was only silence.

Azrael whistled lightly as he surveyed the destruction.

"That made him really riled up," Azrael muttered with a smile.

"He is too weak," Livia pouted.

"Yes he is," Azrael said, tickling her cheek. "That is why the strong you will fight the next wave."

Livia’s eyes sank. "No. I do not want to stain my hands with the blood of such weak beings," she said, turning her face away.

Azrael could only smile at her pettiness.

Space trembled beside him.

Before long, Rion stepped out of a spatial crack.

The ape still wore an angry expression.

"Do not worry," Azrael said, stroking Rion’s body. "I can sense more monsters nearby."

He did not know why this place was so packed, but he felt it was a good thing.

As they walked toward the area where he had sensed the monsters, he felt a small amount of essence being drawn by the ring on his finger.

Then a number formed in his mind.

[789]

Azrael nodded.

That was his total points.

"That should be the place," Azrael said, pointing toward a settlement ahead.

Several camps were spread across the area.

Orcs marched around in disciplined ranks.

This meant only one thing to Azrael.

There was a High Orc among them.

High Orcs were the only ones with enough intelligence to lead others.

His suspicion was confirmed when he saw the castle like building at the center of the settlement, with two orcs standing guard in front of it.

"I wonder what tier the High Orc is," Azrael mused.

But it was too late to wonder.

Rion had already moved without instruction.

He leapt, crossing the distance in a single jump.

He landed at the center of the settlement, sending most of the orcs flying from the impact.

The orcs paused for a moment, as if acknowledging who their enemy was.

That was all.

In the next instant, they lunged ferociously.

Rion caught a sword strike with his golden shield, then slashed at the attacker’s neck with his axe.

His sword moved in tandem, cleaving through the torso of another.

Azrael squinted as he watched the High Orc emerge from the castle.

It stood at an imposing ten feet, a crimson greatsword in its right hand.

A large necklace made of pearls hung around its neck, marking its status as chief.

’Analyze,’ Azrael activated with a thought.

[Target is too far.]

"Guess I have to get closer."

He could already feel the power radiating from the High Orc even at this distance.

At least tier six.

With that as his guide, Azrael lunged.

The High Orc’s face twisted as its attention snapped away from Rion toward its right.

Too late.

Azrael’s leg drove into its face, sending it flying through the air.

Blood sprayed and its nose shifted from the impact.

It crashed into a boulder, reducing it to rubble before coming to a stop.

Azrael landed softly a moment later, and with a thought, Zareth flashed into his hand in a burst of white flames.

But he still observed.
