My Overpowered Demon System

Chapter 46: BROKEN SKILL

Azrael and Zuriel locked eyes for what felt like an eternity.

Both of them were sizing the other up with quiet scrutiny.

The air grew heavier the longer they stared.

Then one of them spoke.

"You know how long I have been hoping for this?" Zuriel asked, getting into stance.

His sword was held with its tip facing Azrael.

Azrael shrugged.

"Even if you got what you wanted, it does not necessarily mean you will benefit from it," Azrael said.

"Let’s see," Zuriel said.

In the next instant, his body flashed forward in a burst of blinding light that stunned Azrael momentarily.

Azrael closed his eyes as he turned.

A sharp whistle tore through the air as Zuriel’s sword slashed towards Azrael’s neck.

’The instructors should be able to revive him, right?’ Zuriel thought as his sword sliced through Azrael’s neck cleanly.

He had expected to see blood splatter.

But there was nothing.

It was as though the sword had only passed through air.

Before he could register it, Azrael’s fist was already in his stomach.

Blood and spit flew from Zuriel’s mouth as his body folded inward.

Azrael pulled his arm back, shaking it calmly.

Before Zuriel could even recover, Azrael’s leg had already smashed into his face, sending him flying through the air.

Bruises formed on Zuriel’s body as he rolled across the floor.

Azrael’s brows twitched as he watched.

"Why are you so weak?" He asked, shaking his head slowly.

"So much for someone who had bragged so much."

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Zuriel asked, planting the tip of his sword into the earth to push himself up.

"We have not even started yet."

As he spoke, a single word fell from his mouth.

An ethereal white light enveloped him from head to toe.

All the bruises on Zuriel’s body began to disappear.

His core hummed as its essence was restored.

Within a breath, Zuriel was back to his peak condition.

A smile spread on Azrael’s lips as he watched the sudden change.

It was not just him. The instructors watching outside looked at the scene with surprise.

"That skill borders on Infernal grade," Sylvester said with a short sigh.

"It should have a restriction, so you cannot say it borders on Infernal grade," Yvonne corrected.

"It does not," Sylvester and Aiden said almost simultaneously.

Yvonne was about to speak again but held back.

If it were just Sylvester who had said it, she might have pushed back.

But Aiden had joined in too.

The chances of them both being wrong were too low.

She still did not want to believe it, but she did not voice that.

"Let’s just watch," she said, turning back to the screen.

"At least you can last a bit longer with that skill," Azrael said.

The temperature around Zuriel shot up.

His immediate environment began to melt from the pure heat he radiated outward.

In a flicker of golden light, he reappeared above Azrael, sword arcing downwards.

Azrael leapt backward, letting the sword cleave through the earth he had stood on a moment ago.

Pillars of light erupted in a straight line along the sword’s path, cleaving the earth apart.

For a moment, silence sat between both of them.

Boom.

Essence erupted through Azrael’s body, pushing him to his absolute limits.

Then both of them lunged at the same time.

Explosion after explosion lay in their wake as they moved.

The earth caved in before erupting outward, the air thinning until a vacuum formed in the space between them.

They moved as though only the two of them remained on the surface of the world.

Azrael sidestepped, narrowly avoiding a slash at his shoulder.

His leg shot out in the same breath.

Zuriel ducked beneath it, then came up with a slash aimed at Azrael’s chest.

Azrael leapt back, then drove his foot towards Zuriel’s bare chest.

Light erupted from Zuriel’s frame as he lunged backwards.

Before Azrael could register it, a large arc of light tore towards him.

"You are really going all out," Azrael said as the arcs passed through him flawlessly.

"You don’t know what going all out means," Zuriel yelled, his body shooting into the sky on ethereal wings of light that formed on his back.

He gazed down at Azrael as though he were a god.

"You remind me of someone I really don’t want to think about," Azrael said as he lunged upward.

The earth where he stood cratered from the weight of his jump.

His fist smashed into Zuriel’s head, sending him crashing into the earth below.

Ripples spread through the floor from the impact.

Azrael landed a breath later, eyes fixed on Zuriel.

His chest rose and fell rapidly from the stamina he had spent.

Zuriel stood up from the floor completely unscathed.

’He needs to speak before activating that skill, but it also seems to work without words,’ Azrael mused, still watching him.

That was when the sound of flesh being torn apart filled the air as a golden beam of light pierced through Azrael’s chest.

A large hole was carved through it, visible for only a fraction of a second before it closed.

Azrael looked at the source. A rifle made of pure light essence hovered above Zuriel’s head.

"Okay, seems like you are really serious about this," Azrael said, taking a step forward.

The gap between him and Zuriel was erased entirely, as though it had never mattered.

Azrael’s fist curled tightly as he punched towards Zuriel’s stomach.

Zuriel blocked with the flat of his blade, his feet digging into the earth as he skidded backward.

A smirk formed on Azrael’s lips as he punched with his other hand.

Crack.

A barrier of pure light appeared in front of Zuriel, blocking Azrael’s punch.

Then it broke in the next instant.

Azrael’s smirked only widened as he watched Zuriel attempt a counter with a slash.

In the next moment, sharp golden line tore through the air.

Zuriel’s body froze.

Then deep crimson blood sprayed into the air, unrestricted.

Zuriel’s head slid off his neck slowly.

Outside the dungeon, the instructors gasped at the sight before them.
