Chapter 268 - 222: Stealth (Part 2)
"Lin Hao, our new hunting weapon is ready," Dr. Zhang said, walking over with an unusual-looking weapon in hand.
Lin Hao took the weapon and inspected it carefully. "Excellent. Let’s go test it."
They went to the laboratory’s testing area, which simulated a variety of possible combat environments.
Lin Hao raised the weapon and aimed at a model of a mutated creature in the distance.
"Activate the electromagnetic wave interference," Lin Hao commanded.
The weapon emitted a low HUM as a nearly invisible electromagnetic wave shot toward the target. The model of the mutated creature immediately began to malfunction. Its movements grew sluggish, and then it stopped completely.
"It’s a success!" the researchers cheered.
Lin Hao smiled and lowered the weapon. "We’ve finally found an effective hunting method. Now, we need to turn these results into real-world hunting operations."
Afterward, Lin Hao reported the research findings to Ye Yun and requested permission to form a hunting party to apply these new strategies and weapons in the field.
Ye Yun highly praised the achievements of Lin Hao and the research team, and quickly assembled a hunting party of experienced Warriors. Under Lin Hao’s guidance, the team members learned how to use the new hunting weapons and familiarized themselves with the new hunting strategies.
A few days later, the hunting party, led by Lin Hao, embarked on their mission to hunt mutated creatures. They crossed the wasteland and arrived in a region teeming with the creatures. Under Lin Hao’s command, the team members handled each encounter with composure, successfully hunting one mutated creature after another using their new weapons and tactics.
As the hunting operations progressed, the residents of the shelter began to feel a tangible increase in their safety. They knew that thanks to the efforts of Lin Hao and the research team, their home would become more secure, and their lives would improve.
Lin Hao stood over the scene of the hunt, gazing at the defeated mutated creatures, his heart swelling with a sense of accomplishment. ’This is just the beginning,’ he thought. ’More challenges and opportunities are waiting for me and the research team to discover and seize.’ And as always, they would use the power of science to light the way for the shelter’s future.
Zhou Mei and Leo stood in the shelter’s command center. A map was spread out before them, marked with a winding route leading to the location of an unknown treasure. Their gazes were resolute, ready to face the challenge ahead.
"Leo, look here," Zhou Mei said, pointing to a symbol on the map. "This is our destination—an ancient ruin that’s rumored to hold a wealth of resources."
Leo leaned in for a closer look and nodded. "This place is certainly mysterious, but we have to be careful. The wasteland is full of danger."
"I’ve already selected our most elite members. We’ll be prepared for anything," Zhou Mei said confidently.
"Then let’s get going. Time is wasting," Leo said, clapping Zhou Mei on the shoulder.
The team they led consisted of ten experienced explorers, each with their own specialties and skills. Before departing, Zhou Mei and Leo gathered the team for a final briefing.
"We are about to embark on a journey into the unknown, fraught with danger," Zhou Mei’s voice was firm. "Our goal is to find the treasure that can bring new hope to the shelter.
Remember, we’re not doing this just for ourselves, but for our home and our future. Stay vigilant, support each other, and I’m confident we can overcome any obstacle."
The team members nodded in understanding, their eyes filled with resolve and determination. Then, carrying the necessary equipment and tools, they set off toward the treasure’s location.
On this wasteland scoured by the apocalypse, the harshness of the environment was beyond ordinary imagination. Howling winds kicked up clouds of sand and dust that blotted out the sky, as if the sun itself had lost its warmth and light.
The land was no longer fertile, but instead covered in deep fissures, like scars on the body of Mother Earth, a silent testament to the catastrophe that had occurred.
The team struggled onward through the desolate landscape, their footsteps echoing through the empty ruins with unnerving clarity.
Yet the silence was occasionally broken by the whistle of the wind, which seemed to mock their insignificance and futility.
In the distance, the roars of mutated creatures shattered the deathly silence. They were the new masters of the wasteland, nature’s own ironic punishment for human civilization.
The creatures’ howls drifted on the wind, putting every member of the team on high alert. They knew these mutated beasts were not only massive but also incredibly fierce; an encounter would mean a fight for their lives.
The team’s scouts served as their eyes and ears. They always took the lead, using their keen senses and vast experience to survey the surrounding environment.
If they found any sign of mutated creatures, they would immediately warn the team, who would then quickly devise a strategy to deal with the threat.
Sometimes they could use the terrain to their advantage, cleverly avoiding a direct confrontation. At other times, they had to rely on the team’s Warriors and Hunters to ensure their safety with strength and skill.
In this wasteland, water and food were extremely precious resources.
The team’s scavengers and foragers were responsible for finding potential sources of water and food. They had to carefully identify any possible water source and inspect every plant that might be edible.
In the process, they had to contend not only with the harsh environment but also with the mutated creatures that lurked in the shadows.
As the sun gradually set, the temperature in the wasteland plummeted. Night was even more dangerous, as many mutated creatures were more active in the dark. The team had to find a relatively safe place to make camp. They needed to light a bonfire to ward off the cold, but they also had to be careful to keep the fire small so as not to attract unwanted attention.
At the camp, the team members gathered around the bonfire, sharing their food and water while exchanging stories and lessons from the day. They knew that only through mutual support and cooperation could they survive in this perilous wasteland. The roars of distant mutated creatures could still be heard on the night wind, but the sounds no longer inspired fear. They knew that as long as they stood united, nothing could halt their advance.
"Careful, there might be mutated creatures ahead," Leo warned the team. "Everyone stay alert and be ready for an attack."
The team’s scouts moved ahead to reconnoiter the area. They discovered signs of mutated creatures but managed to avoid a direct conflict through clever evasion and strategy.
After trekking for several days, they finally neared the treasure’s location as marked on the map. But just then, a group of hostile raiders appeared in the distance. They clearly had their eyes on the treasure as well.
"Looks like we’re not the only ones who know about this treasure," Zhou Mei said, gripping her weapon tightly, her eyes wary.
"Prepare for battle!" Leo commanded.
The team quickly scattered, using the terrain of the ruins for cover. As the raiders drew closer, a fierce firefight erupted between the two sides. Bullets whistled through the air, and the glow of energy weapons flashed among the ruins.
"Hold your formation! Don’t let them break us apart!" Zhou Mei shouted.
Led by Zhou Mei and Leo, the team members demonstrated superb combat skills and teamwork. With their precise aim and agile movements, they gradually suppressed the raiders’ assault.
After a heated battle, the raiders were finally overwhelmed and began to retreat. Zhou Mei and Leo didn’t give chase; they knew their true objective was the treasure.
"Quick, we don’t have much time," Zhou Mei said, pointing deeper into the ruins. "The treasure should be in the basement up ahead."
The team quickly entered the ruins and found the entrance to the basement. They descended the dilapidated staircase cautiously, eventually arriving before a massive door.
