Chapter 9: The Weight of Ambition
The ancestral spire’s private chambers remained perfectly sealed by multiple layers of powerful void formations. No matter how loud Su Qinglan’s broken screams had been, no matter how wet and obscene the slapping of flesh against flesh had grown, nor how deeply the Empress’s low, regal moans of satisfaction had echoed through the night, nothing had leaked outside. The Void Empress had made absolutely certain of that. Her privacy was absolute.
Morning light filtered gently through the floating crystal windows, casting ethereal patterns of gold and violet across the grand chamber. Ling Zihan sat poised on the edge of the massive spiritual jade bed, her long silver-white hair spilling elegantly over her shoulders like a cascade of moonlight. Her crimson eyes held their familiar cold arrogance, sharp and unreadable. She wore a fresh set of luxurious black-and-purple robes that clung perfectly to her perfected figure, hugging the full swell of her breasts and accentuating her slender waist and graceful curves.
At her feet, Su Qinglan knelt obediently on the cool floor. The young attendant’s movements were slow and slightly unsteady, her body still recovering from the long, brutal night of conquest. Her face remained flushed with lingering heat, her long black hair dishevelled and sticking to her damp skin. Faint red marks from the previous night’s binding ropes and possessive bites decorated her neck and wrists, visible reminders of her complete surrender. Every time she shifted, a soft, involuntary whimper escaped her swollen lips as thick, warm remnants of Void Yang Essence continued to leak slowly from her well-fucked pussy, trickling down her inner thighs in obscene trails.
“Young Mistress…” Su Qinglan whispered reverently, her voice hoarse and trembling with newfound devotion. The Void Soul Binding had taken root beautifully deep within her soul. She looked up at the Empress with hazy, worshipful eyes as she carefully helped fasten the final clasps of her robes. Her hands trembled with a potent mix of lingering fear, overwhelming shame, and an addictive, craving hunger that she could no longer suppress.
“This servant… is ready to serve you in any way,” she added softly, lowering her gaze in complete submission.
The Empress stroked her attendant’s messy hair with cool, almost affectionate fingers. “Good. Remember your promise. Serve me well, and your family will be safe. Now, prepare yourself. We have guests today.”
“Yes, Young Mistress,” Su Qinglan replied without hesitation, her voice carrying a quiet, fervent devotion that had not existed the night before.

Later that morning, the grand audience hall of the central palace thrummed with an electric atmosphere of renewed hope and cautious excitement. Sunlight streamed through towering crystal windows, illuminating the majestic black-and-purple pillars carved with ancient void motifs. The hall, once filled with heavy silence and worried whispers, now buzzed with animated conversation among the gathered core disciples and elders.
Patriarch Ling Tianhao sat upon the main throne at the head of the hall. He was a dignified middle-aged man with streaks of silver threading through his dark hair and a powerful cultivation base at the early Dao Manifestation Realm. For years, his face had carried the heavy burden of a declining clan, etched with deep lines of exhaustion and worry. Today, however, his eyes shone with visible excitement and genuine hope as he gazed at the silver-haired beauty standing confidently before the assembled clan members.
“Zihan!” The Patriarch’s voice boomed through the hall with rare, heartfelt joy. “Early Spiritual Sea Realm at only nineteen years of age! This is nothing short of a miracle that even our most glorious ancestors would praise from the heavens. With you leading our younger generation into the Azure Veil Grand Sect Tournament, we will no longer suffer humiliation on that stage. Our Primordial Void Immortal Clan may finally begin its long-awaited rise once more!”
Ling Zihan stood tall and regal in the center of the hall, her posture radiating supreme confidence. Her long silver-white hair shimmered under the light, and her crimson eyes remained cold and aloof, exactly as the original Young Mistress would have appeared. She gave a slight, arrogant nod, her voice carrying the perfect tone of icy superiority.
“This Young Mistress merely did what was necessary, Patriarch,” she replied calmly. “The Heavenly Radiance Sect and the other vultures circling our Sky Palace will soon learn that the Void Clan is not so easily trampled. They have mocked us for far too long.”
Murmurs of agreement and admiration rippled through the crowd. The other elders, including her mother Ling Qingmei, watched with open pride and overwhelming relief. Qingmei’s crimson eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she gazed at her daughter, her hands clasped tightly in front of her to hide their slight trembling. After so many years of despair, seeing Zihan achieve such a heaven-defying breakthrough filled her with renewed strength.
However, not everyone in the hall shared the same unbridled enthusiasm.
A sharp, mocking laugh suddenly echoed from the side of the hall, cutting through the positive atmosphere like a blade. A tall, handsome young man stepped forward from among the core disciples. Ling Feng, twenty-two years old and one of the clan’s promising talents at the peak of Qi Condensation, had a face twisted with barely concealed jealousy and arrogance. He glared at Ling Zihan with open hostility.
“Congratulations are easy to give, Young Mistress,” he sneered, cupping his hands in a mocking salute. “But words mean nothing without true strength to back them up. You may have broken through to the Spiritual Sea Realm, but many of us suspect it was only due to the overwhelming power of the Eternal Void Jade Heart. A borrowed breakthrough is hardly proof of genuine talent or worthiness to lead our clan’s future.”
The entire hall fell into stunned silence. Several disciples gasped audibly, while some elders frowned in disapproval. Challenging the Young Mistress so openly, especially right after her miraculous breakthrough, was incredibly bold and disrespectful.
Ling Feng, emboldened by the attention, continued with venom in his voice. “Since the Azure Veil Grand Sect Tournament is fast approaching, why don’t we settle this right here and now? Allow this junior to test whether the great Young Mistress is truly worthy of carrying all our hopes… or if she is merely another false genius propped up by ancient relics and desperate luck.”
The tension in the hall became palpable. Many younger disciples exchanged nervous glances, while some of the more ambitious core disciples seemed quietly pleased by the challenge. Ling Feng had always been proud and competitive, but his jealousy toward Zihan’s rapid rise had clearly pushed him to this extreme.
The Void Empress, hidden behind Ling Zihan’s flawless mask, narrowed her crimson eyes slightly. A flicker of cold amusement danced in their depths.
How amusing, she thought inwardly. A jealous little whelp offering himself so readily. His arrogance is almost endearing. My supreme yang furnace gave a warm, heavy throb beneath her robes at the thought of future possibilities. Arrogant young men always break so satisfyingly… and taste so sweet when they finally kneel.
She stepped forward gracefully, her dark purple robes flowing elegantly around her perfect figure. The entire hall seemed to hold its breath as her cold; commanding presence filled the space.
“Very well, Ling Feng,” she said, her voice calm, icy, and filled with overwhelming dominance that made even the Patriarch pause. “This Young Mistress accepts your challenge.”
A dangerous, subtle smile touched her lips, sending a chill through many of those present.
“However… I will not hold back.”
The hall erupted into a storm of shocked whispers and excited murmurs. Ling Feng’s face showed a brief flash of surprise, quickly replaced by fierce determination. He had expected hesitation or refusal, not such swift and confident acceptance.
Patriarch Ling Tianhao raised his hand, his expression turning serious. “Zihan, are you certain? You only broke through last night. There is no need to prove yourself so soon.”
The Empress turned slightly toward the Patriarch, her voice respectful yet unyielding. “Patriarch, this is necessary. If even our own clan members doubt this Young Mistress’s strength, how can we expect our enemies to fear us? Let Ling Feng test me. Let everyone here witness the true power of the Void Clan’s hope.”
Ling Qingmei looked visibly worried, stepping forward slightly. “Zihan, please be careful. Even with your new realm, a direct spar so soon after breakthrough carries risks.”
The Empress met her mother’s gaze with calm reassurance. “Mother, trust me. This will be over quickly.”
Ling Feng laughed loudly, cracking his knuckles. “Bold words, Young Mistress! I hope you don’t regret them when I expose your borrowed power for what it is!”
The atmosphere in the grand audience hall had shifted from celebration to intense anticipation. The stage was set for a public spar that would either solidify Ling Zihan’s position as the undisputed leader of the younger generation or plant seeds of doubt within the clan.
The Void Empress, however, felt only cold excitement. This arrogant cousin would be an excellent first public demonstration of her returned power… and perhaps, in private, a future addition to her growing collection.
