Chapter 117: Abrupt Stop
Mia and I just stood there, completely dumbfounded by what had just happened.
Lady Andromeda had suddenly punched Ezio, sending him crashing through several trees for seemingly no reason.
What the hell was wrong with this woman?
I know I gave her a short temper, but she couldn’t just swing at anyone, especially a Guardian, without a valid reason.
I was about to get pissed off, but then I remembered how Ezio had refused to come out of his shadow no matter how many times I asked him to. I also remembered the fact that he had called her by her name the first time they met.
My first assumption was that Lady Andromeda attacked him because he had called her by her name, which, by her standards, was completely reasonable.
But that wasn’t it.
What I was sure of was that Ezio knew her, and the two of them had some sort of history.
Of course they knew each other. They were both part of the Laurent family, and Ezio wasn’t just some normal servant. He was a Shadow Guardian.
So Ezio had definitely done something in the past that she really didn’t like.
But damn, what the hell could he have done to make a woman famous for her short temper punch him hard enough to send him crashing through a forest?
It had to be something big.
Even so, she couldn’t just attack my Shadow Guardian like that.
"Oh my God, is Mister Ezio okay?" Mia asked beside me, her voice filled with worry.
"He should be fine," I whispered before stepping forward.
Was I worried about Ezio?
Maybe a little.
But I believed he should be fine. They were both of the same rank, after all. He could handle it.
"Aunt," I said, trying to sound as angry as possible. "What are you doing? Why did you hit my Guardian when he didn’t even do anything to you?"
Lady Andromeda looked at me from the corner of her eye.
"My youngest nephew, please don’t get involved. This is a matter between me and him. Just stand there quietly with your friend, and I’ll get back to you soon."
"No. What if you give him serious injuries and—"
I didn’t even get to finish.
Lady Andromeda turned her head toward me.
Her eyes locked onto mine.
The intensity of her glare froze me in place.
"I think the one I’ll give serious injuries to will be you. I don’t think your father will mind if I break every bone in your body for daring to talk back to your aunt. So stay there."
"Yes, ma’am."
I raised my hands in surrender, turned on my heel, and walked back toward Mia.
I’m sorry, Ezio. I tried my best.
You’re on your own.
Mia looked at me.
"Is Ezio going to be okay?"
I nodded.
"He is."
I just didn’t know how many of his bones would remain intact.
Lady Andromeda stood there silently for several moments, her arms crossed over her chest.
Then a frown slowly appeared on her face.
"You bastard. I know you’re fine. I didn’t even punch you that hard."
She looked toward the path of destroyed trees Ezio had made.
A moment later, a figure walked out from the other end.
Ezio.
His back and grey robes were completely clean, without a single tear or scratch on them.
As Lady Andromeda had said, he looked perfectly fine.
Although his smile was noticeably bitter.
"Why did you hit me out of nowhere?" Ezio asked.
Lady Andromeda tilted her head to the side as if genuinely thinking about the question.
Then she answered.
"Because you deserved it? Don’t play stupid after what you did."
Oh.
He definitely did something to her.
Ezio scratched the back of his head.
"I don’t know why you’re still hung up on that. It happened when we were younger. Why don’t you just let it go?"
Lady Andromeda’s aura suddenly erupted.
It didn’t affect Mia or me much because she seemed to be deliberately suppressing it around us.
Ezio, however, immediately flinched like a frightened cat.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, I couldn’t help but find it funny.
This was Ezio.
The same guy who acted all mighty and confident around me.
But in front of Lady Andromeda?
That confidence had completely disappeared.
"Hey, hey, calm down," Ezio said, raising both hands defensively. "There are kids behind you."
He glanced at Mia and me before continuing.
"Why don’t we solve this like adults and just talk? Why cause all this commotion?"
Lady Andromeda slowly raised her left hand.
Then she gave him the middle finger.
"Nah. Fuck that."
Ezio’s expression stiffened.
"We could have done that years ago, but you ran away. So I’m going to beat you to a pulp today."
She pointed at him.
"Not only because of our personal issues, but because you sneaked out with my nephew and took him into this place without me knowing. It finally makes sense why I felt a familiar presence months ago."
Ezio’s already corpse-like skin somehow seemed to become even paler.
"Now get ready."
The moment those words left her mouth, Lady Andromeda’s figure vanished.
There wasn’t even a sound.
One moment she was standing in front of me.
The next, she was already standing in front of Ezio with her fist flying toward his face.
My eyes couldn’t even process what I was seeing.
She had crossed dozens of meters in the blink of an eye.
BOOM!
A massive shockwave erupted from the impact.
The ground beneath them cracked, dust exploded into the air, and the surrounding trees shook violently.
The force was so strong that Mia and I were forced to skid backward several meters.
These two were trying to get us killed.
When the dust finally began to settle, I saw their figures.
Ezio had blocked her attack with his right palm, his fingers wrapped tightly around her fist.
"You caught that?"
Lady Andromeda smiled widely.
Ezio only gave her a bitter smile.
Then Lady Andromeda disappeared again.
This time, so did Ezio.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
All my eyes could see were blurred figures moving around the forest at impossible speeds.
Every time they collided, the ground beneath them exploded into craters.
Trees were shattered.
The earth cracked.
Shockwaves spread through the forest with every exchange.
I immediately decided to back away with Mia.
We moved toward the border gates and stood as far away from the fight as we could while continuing to watch.
It was unbearable.
I couldn’t see shit.
They were simply moving too fast for my eyes to follow.
Ezio had always been faster than me whenever we sparred, but even then, I could still see his movements.
Now, however, he was moving at an entirely different level.
Was this the true power of a Sovereign?
Maybe.
But I knew they were still holding back.
If they weren’t, Mia and I would have probably been torn apart by the shockwaves from their collisions.
"You sneaky bastard! Why are you just dodging? Fight back!"
Lady Andromeda’s irritated voice echoed through the forest.
It seemed Ezio was doing exactly that.
Dodging.
He wasn’t fighting back at all.
Suddenly, Ezio’s figure blurred.
He appeared directly in front of Mia and me.
"Are you guys okay?"
His hands were clasped behind his back as though he hadn’t just been fighting a Sovereign seconds ago.
I swear, there was something seriously wrong with this guy.
"Yeah," I said. "But what the hell did you do to make my aunt this worked up?"
"It’s a long story, but this will be over soon."
Before I could ask another question, he disappeared again.
A second later, he reappeared several meters away as Lady Andromeda suddenly tried to grab him.
Ezio slipped past her grasp and disappeared once again.
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
This was definitely why I hadn’t wanted to show my face.
But whatever.
I could already hear people approaching.
"What’s happening?"
A voice came from above me.
I looked up.
There were already several people standing along the border walls, staring at the battle.
It seemed the commotion had attracted everyone’s attention.
This was definitely what I didn’t want.
I just hoped Ezio would finish this quickly before she also—
"What’s happening here?"
A voice suddenly came from directly beside me.
No.
It wasn’t Mia.
"Oh my God!"
Mia reacted at the same time.
I swear I would have gotten a heart attack if it wasn’t for my Gift keeping me calm.
Why the fuck did people keep appearing out of nowhere and scaring the shit out of me?
And speaking of the devil...
She was here.
A tall woman stood beside me.
Her long pink hair flowed down her back, and her presence alone was enough to make my entire body tense.
"Andromeda and Ezio."
The moment she spoke those two names, the battle came to an abrupt stop.
Both Ezio and Lady Andromeda froze.
For the first time since their fight had started, everything became completely silent.
The woman looked between them.
"Care to explain what’s happening here?"
