Chapter 61: Climbing up [3]
I spread my senses forward and detected the mana signatures of the five remaining geckos...they were bigger than the ones I had just killed — about two meters long.
And in addition to that, those cold-blooded lizards were rushing and coming down towards me, releasing angry and predatory hisses.
I created a large platform that stretched about five meters wide and stepped on it.
A spear formed in my hand and I threw it up, aiming for one of the geckos. The gecko, with its lizard agility, dodged the spear by moving to the side and continued down towards me.
The first one that reached me tried for my chest, so I stepped to the side and dodged its jaws. Then I pulled my arm back, enhanced with mana, and punched the right side of its head.
The gecko’s head caved in from the power of my fist, tearing flesh and breaking bones. The punch was so strong that it killed the gecko upon impact and it was sent flying down with its head bleeding profusely.

The second one just launched itself off the wall towards me, so I stepped to the far side of my platform and shrank it. The gecko missed me and fell down with a hiss of pure disbelief.

A whipping grey tail came down and tried to smack me on the head, and would probably have blown my head clean off if it had succeeded, so I raised a wall of darkness above me and blocked the gecko’s tail, which shook the wall on contact.
Before the gecko could turn back around, the wall of darkness parted and I grabbed its tail and stopped it from turning.
The gecko hissed dangerously, and just before I could pull it off the wall, the other two remaining geckos were already upon me — one came from the left, aiming at my face with its jaws, while the other came from the right, aiming for my neck.
Since I didn’t have time to pull the gecko off the wall, I instead threw its long tail to the right, into the mouth of the gecko in that direction, which closed instinctively, making the other gecko hiss loudly in pain as its tail was bitten.
And in retaliation, it turned its body around and bit the other on the neck, confused by what I had just done.
At the same time, I avoided the gecko on the left ripping my face off with its jaws, and then punched its head so hard that it was squashed and caved into the wall, releasing blood and brain matter.
Freaking disgusting.
[You have slain a Mid Common Beast, Grey Gecko.]
After some time, the gecko got unstuck from the wall and fell down.
I turned to the other two, who were still fighting, and spread my mana under them, and huge spikes made of darkness rose below them and pierced their abdomens.

"There they go." I said, as their dead bodies slipped off the spikes and fell down, towards the river.
I was pretty sure that whatever lived inside that river would have a feast today.
Talking about feasts, would lizard meat taste good?
No, no, listen. Would it taste like the Fire Monkey leader?
The Fire Monkey leader’s meat had tasted good, despite me not being a fan of eating beasts...
I suddenly got chills after realizing what I was just thinking.
Fucking hell, how could I think of eating a lizard’s meat?!
I have morals and dignity! How could I think that??
"Tsk, damned Ezio trying to influence me to become just like him." I clicked my tongue.
’Huh, what did I do?’
It was better if I got out of there, I didn’t want to wait for the other geckos to get to me.
I got off the platform and started climbing up the wall by repeating the same movement: stabbing a spear into the wall and using it to launch myself up.
With each second that passed, I covered dozens and dozens of meters, and in just 10 minutes, I was able to climb up 200 meters high — there were still 300 meters left until I reached the top.
After some more minutes, I finally reached the edge of the crack in the mountain. I raised my hand out of the crack, dug my sharp nails into the floor above and pulled myself up.
I rolled onto my back and remained still, looking at the blue sky. I inhaled and exhaled.
It was so nice to have proper oxygen filling my lungs. In the caves, the oxygen wasn’t nearly as much as outside, and hell, it was as hot as a boiling pan.
After relaxing for a couple more minutes, I got up and dismissed my armor.
I looked around at my surroundings — the ground was nothing but grey rocks, and there were no trees in sight. Behind me was the peak of the Abyss Mountain, stretching up above into the clouds.
And well, of course, there wouldn’t be trees in sight, it was one of those mountains where plants can’t grow because of how hard the soil structure was.
Since this part of the mountain was really flat, I didn’t need to worry about climbing again — I just had to walk straight for 600 meters until I found the end of the mountain.
I opened a spatial ring, removed a black cloak, put it on and pulled the hood over my head.
I infused mana into my legs and dashed forward towards the end of the mountain.
After 20 minutes I came to a stop.
That was because if I moved any further, I’d be falling to my death.
I stood right at the edge of the mountain and took in the view — the sun shone brilliantly up above, giving the air that warm feeling of summer, but below, there was nothing but a grey fog that stretched so far I couldn’t see the end of it...I could only see the mountains of Section 5, whose peaks were buried up in the clouds, thousands and thousands of kilometers away from me.
Just from how it looked, that place was named the Grey Fog. A place where unimaginable types of Mid Common to Greater monsters and abominations lived. And somewhere in the middle, Section 3 started.
