Chapter 92
After completing the analysis report on the murderer, Avery slept until dusk before taking a taxi back home to Mid-Level Mountain Garden. Her family knew she would return that night and were all waiting for her. The dining table was filled with her favorite dishes. Although there was no foie gras with gingerbread toast or sautéed vegetables, there were still plenty of her favorites, like corn salad, sweet and sour stir-fried vegetables, smoked sausage with mustard sauce, pecan-stuffed mushrooms, and pan-seared fish fillets with garlic butter. There was nothing her mother made that she did not like. "Avery is back! Come, sit down and eat with us," someone said, waving at her. Another was getting cutlery for her while another pulled out a chair for her. Avery was touched.
"It’s already almost eight in the evening. Why haven’t you eaten yet? Skipping meals is not good for you," she said.
Arthur smiled and said, "Although we haven’t had dinner yet, we’ve had fruits and snacks. We’re not that hungry. We just really wanted to eat together with you."
Sitting on a high stool, Josie swung her legs back and forth and tapped on her bowl with a small spoon, singing, "Avery, sit down quickly. Let’s eat together—the food will taste even better!"
Avery patted her head and sat down beside her. "Alright, alright, let’s eat together."
After dinner, Avery was full. She smiled and asked, "Mom, after checking out those restaurants for the past three days, have you decided?"
Claire laughed and replied, "Yes, we went to eight private home-cooking restaurants, and I’ve concluded that my homemade dishes taste even better than theirs. If they can open a shop to make money, there’s no reason why I can’t."
At this point, she said a bit embarrassedly, "Avery, Arthur, and I are planning to choose a location to open the shop. If we find a good spot, I’ll trouble you to help introduce some investors. I’m thinking of starting with a smaller restaurant. I don’t want to invest too much at the beginning in case I can’t recover my capital in time or end up losing money. Owing too much money to others isn’t a good idea."
