Avoiding Death in an Otome Game

[Note:- I am switching to the narrator/third person perspective because now there are more characters and also there is going to be more action.]

The outer region of the forest is suddenly in chaos because of the abnormal activities of the monsters in the region. And this made all the teachers who were looking over the test, busy rescuing the students who are facing the immediate threats.

Among all that chaos, one figure is racing through the dense forest at an incredible speed that will shock any first year student if they see it.

*It seems all students are being attacked, hopefully the teachers should be coming to rescue them.*

Kai thought as he leaped through the open path that has obvious sign of the fact that someone had went through it before. And by Kai’s estimation the only female team capable enough to get the furthest in the forest in such a short while is Elena’s group.

Ian has also pointed at that specific direction when he mentioned hearing a familiar voice and the noises similar to the one made by the earthworm Kai had just defeated.

As if proving to his prediction, Kai noticed some dead poison slimes on the path ahead but the next second he has already fly over the dead bodies of those monsters. Currently he is using the fourth of the ’Eight Sky Steps’ and going at the speed of more than 130 kmph.

Of course it’s not his fastest speed as he can use the fifth step as well and attain the speed of around 200 kmph but he refrained from doing so knowing that the forest is not safe enough. If he goes too fast then he will not be able to stop immediately if a threat arises.

But suddenly Kai reduces his speed as he feels some movement ahead and the next moment, he sees it clearly with his ’Horizon Eye’.

There is a huge tree ahead with one of its branches extending above the path Kai needs to take in order to go ahead. But the tree wasn’t the only thing there.

The real problem is the creature coiling around the branch, almost looking like a part of it. Most people would assume it to be just a weird lumpy branch, but thanks to his horizon eye, Kai can feel the movement of blood in it.

"A snake type monster?" Kai concluded as he traces the movement of blood which obviously is a structure of an 8 feet long snake.

It’s a ’Datura Snake’ a monster that can gradually adapt to different colors and camouflage itself with its environment. The most troublesome thing about it is that ’Datura Snake’ is that it can move its body instantly and conveniently to catch its target off guard.

*Should I take a detour?* Kai thought as he concluded that if he goes from below the branch then the snake will definitely attack but if he flies from above it then it will attract even more flying creatures.

*Can’t waste time*

Deciding against the idea of taking a detour, Kai reaccelerate his speed as he also got ready to take on the attack of the snake.

And just as expected, the moment Kai reached near the tree, the datura snake moved its body at a terrifying speed as its open jaw headed towards Kai’s moving figure.

"Scram!" Kai shouted in frustration as he was really hoping for the snake to ignore him. Things are already going beyond his plans and that made him a little frustrated.

Already coming prepared, Kai instantly created a rapidly spinning Water Shield which blocked the snake’s head and at the same time he jumped and kicked at the body of the snake and used it to perform the ’fifth step’.

Condensing the wind on his right foot, as soon as he kicked the snake with it, the rebound sent the snake backward while Kai’s own body accelerated forward at incredible speed.

"Phew... Luckily it worked."

Seeing the snake’s figure disappearing in distance, Kai finally slowed down back to the speed of the fourth step as he took a deep breath and ready himself for the real battle.

Because he can finally hear the noise of the ongoing confrontation ahead and also faintly see some black figures surrounding a weird barrier made by ice, light and darkness.

Though the barrier looks incomplete as one of its sides remains open from where, Elena and her group are trying to take down one of the earthworms.

*What the heck are they doing? It’s a f@cking earthworm! It can attack from the earth!*

Like giving an answer to his theory, the next moment the ground in the middle of the barrier formation begins to tremble as one of the four earthworms had previously dug in the earth and is trying to pop out of it.

"We can’t fight them. Let’s clear one side and escape from it" Hina said as she could only think of one way to escape the situation.

Hearing her words, the other five nodded as they attacked the earthworm on the open side of the barrier. Under Luna’s boost both Elena and Hina are able to fight while maintaining the barrier.

As for the ice barrier, Grusha maintains it as Candice helps the others in fighting the giant earthworm. At the same time one of the earthworms surrounding them from outside the barrier dug in the ground.

"There’s again movement underground! One of them is trying to attack from the below" Lily warned them as she field the moments below the ground.

"Can you do something of it?" Elena asked as she pushed back another earthworm that was trying to enter from the open passage.

"On it." Lily replied as she tapped her magic staff down on the ground and a green light shone on it and under the surface of the earth, thin plant roots started to grow at a rapid pace with poisonous spikes on them as they move like snake’s to form a net like formation underground, just below the area of the barrier.

Just the moment after the net was completed, the blackskin earthworm has already reached below it, trying to reach the surface but is hindered by the net formed from poisonous spikes.

The surface trembles as the creature struggles to break the net blocking its path and reach the surface.

"It will not last long, we need to do something" Lily said as they can clearly see the earth bulging up from the creature’s struggle to come out.

*Tch.... No time to hold back*

"Elena protect them, I need to remove the barrier" Hina said as she made up her mind to go all out.

"Alright" Elena answered as she created another barrier at the place Hina’s was while Hina removed her barrier.

"Candice! Lily! Back down" Hina told them as she holds her magic staff with both her hands and raised it up as a unique formation formed before her and the next moment a powerful beam of light in the shape of the formation is released from it.

The beam hit the earthworm outside the barrier and the moment the beam made contact with the creature, the earthworm stopped moving like being paralyzed.

"Attack now! Its defense is weakened!" Hina said as she herself prepared an attack just in case.

"I will take it." Candice declared as she cast a magic which created a long sword of ice energy and she motioned it to attack the creature.

The ice sword easily sliced the earthworm in two as its rapidly freezing dead body fell down on the ground.

"What!?" Candice stared in shock at the result of her own attack but it was actually the effect of Hina’s previous attack.

Hina’s magic core ability ’Glowing Demise’ is an ability which completely weakens the target’s defense for a short while resulting in any attack doing extreme damage to it, of course the lack in the movement of the target is the result of the sudden weakening.

"Guys run!" Luna suddenly exclaimed as the ground near her split open and the head of a blackskin earthworm breaking through a net of poisonous vines could be seen.

At the same moment Elena removed the barrier, knowing it’s useless now. Instead a pair of black wings composed of darkness reappeared behind her.

She jumped forward grabbing Luna and Grusha who were about to be attacked by the earthworm and tried to fly but unfortunately, there wasn’t just one earthworm as the other one tried to attack them as soon as the barrier disappeared.

"Hina! Lily!" Elena called out to the other girls as she released Luna and Grusha "catch them!" She dropped the two and turned around to face the attack of the earthworm knowing how dangerous it was in her current situation.

Without wasting any time, Elena again made the full use of her magic core ability as feathers of darkness were released from her wings, attacking the earthworm mercilessly, ’Wings of Nightmare’.

But the next instant, the third earthworm made its move while the one in the ground busy the other girls, the third earthworm attacked Elena from her left just when she finished using her magic core ability and was hit by a sudden exhaustion.

"Elena!"
