Chapter 261: There isn’t going to be a fight
By the time that the duo had made it back to their car, a driver was already nearby, the phone calls were starting to come in. Andrew and Maxwell giggled to themselves as they ordered the driver to get them the hell out of there, like they had robbed a house instead of paying for a bill.
They ignored the calls, instead sending a few texts to the group chat to let everyone know that they were grateful for today, and that they could treat them next time. Andrew made sure to add a smiley face, since he knew Maxwell wasn’t the one who would do so.
Maxwell shook his head at his response, but didn’t say anything, his lips turned up in a smile.
The driver was happy to help, especially as they pieced together some of the information about what had happened, and Andrew was just glad that they were a beta, and seemed to be a rather good person. When they did get to the house, Michael was outside with a large, cardboard box on their stoop, a few of the security guards showing themselves to chat with him while Maxwell and Andrew were absent.
When Michael saw that they had arrived, he turned and looked relieved. Andrew paused. The security team had been just chatting with him, right? It wasn’t as if they were interrogating him because they weren’t here, right?
Andrew, who was feeling considerably better compared to only a few hours ago, was ready to jump to Michael’s defense until he opened the door of the car and was able to smell Michael.
Andrew was surprised by how quickly his mood soured.
Maxwell, who was watching Andrew like a hawk, noticed the change in him immediately. Andrew had previously had a rather concerned look on his face. It was full of worry for Michael, but as soon as Andrew opened the door, it shifted. His gaze brightened, and his nostrils flared. The worry shifted to something darker and Andrew slammed the door closed. He turned to Maxwell, a different kind of worry in his gaze.
"That isn’t a normal response, is it?" Andrew asked, and Maxwell blinked.
